Hey All I have a Special Force that up to 2 days ago was working 100 %. It seems all of the playfield lights are out and the solenoids that reset the DT's are out of order. I cant get the game to start either, thought it does go into attract mode.

anyone know where I should start, I checked the 2 playfield fuses I could find down by the flippers and I checked all the fuses I could find in the backbox.

So ive been checking voltages in the back box and everything seems okay on those little voltage test loops. I was able tog et the game to start but instead of a ball getting kicked into the shooter lane, the knocker goes off. since there are still three balls in the trap it keeps trying to kick a ball into play to start the game but its not firing the right solenoid.

is this a ROM issue?

This is really not my area of expertise, but I seem to recall that there is a relay that controls some of the solenoids at some times and others at other times. It is under the playfield and needs a working 555 bulb to function properly. If the bulb is out, it can create weird things with the solenoids. I would look there first. There is another thread that addresses that which I'll try to find in a moment. Good luck!

Sorry for the multiple posts -- just thinking a little more about this. I'm wondering if you have an issue where the lights aren't functioning, then that may affect the solenoid expander board since it needs a functioning light. Maybe the root cause of all the misfiring solenoids is the issue with the lights.

I'm done now and will let others who really know this area weigh in.

Great! Congrats!

Was I right that once the lights came back on, the solenoids started firing properly?

Once the jumper was reseated EVERYTHING ( ) started working properly. it wasn't that the solenoids weren't firing, its that the wrong solenoid was firing, very weird.

Yes, I believe that was a result of the 555 bulb on the solenoid expander being off. But I could be wrong. As I said, I don't really know what I'm talking about.
