It that is hard to stomach, there are a couple of options in the USA. Coin-op Cauldron might re-work the board but won't replace any of the plasma. Might be a short-term fix if the plasma is going bad. I would e-mail first to make sure the repair is plausible.
Second option is replacing both with new LED displays. There are a couple of companies that make them. I can't vouch personally for either, but I like my LED displays I got from Pinitech (which doesn't offer the alphanumeric 14 digit displays). Not a cheap option, though.
Yes, I am looking at an X-Pin LED replacement at about £200 but it's not a very valuable game so I may just leave it...thanks for replying.

One possibility is memory corruption in case the memory protect battery has failed, which happened to me on a party animal. Try a factory reset from Basic Settings (65, Enter, A keys)

I don't know if you can add service credits but you can put it into free play mode, under Basic Options go to Free Play and press 6,5, Enter, Game.

The MPU is going to need header work with how the harness is soldered directly to the board.
Check out the service outlet, it’s a UK game. It’s got the Europe cord on it as well.

That looks like a schuko socket so not a UK game, but maybe European origin. Definitely worse than mine but they are fun to get going and make nice again - good luck...

Is it the speed that kills it?
I once tried a 74LS373 that I found in my spares when I was repairing a display on my Party animal, but it didn't work. Ordered an HC instead which got it going again.
