From what I can see, the difference between the bally E -122-125 and the E-122-131 transformers is that the -125 has an output of 7.8VAC at winding 4 whereas the -131 has an output of -9.2VAC at winding 4.

This voltage is then rectified for the switched illumination BUS to 5.4VDC for the -125 and 6.5VDC for the -131.

My question is this:
If I run only LED and not incandescents can I use the easier to find -125 and run 5.4VDC Switched illumination BUS in a game that would normally have 6.5VDC?

You can use either. however you should pick the correct model for your game. The 131 transformer was made for games with an excessive amount of bulbs requiring an aux lamp board like Kiss or Space Invaders. If you switch to LEDs you will eliminate the need for the beefier transformer however if the next owner switches back to 44s they would have lamp fail issues.

Are you sure you have a bad transformer? They almost never fail.
