I just finished shopping a Johnny Mnemonic and have finally started getting some experience playing the game. Rolling over the left inlane (flipper return lane) to light throwing spikes is pretty important, but I've noticed that when I shoot the left ramp, the ball often hops over the inlane switch (microswitch) without triggering it. It's not really a noticeable hop, but when you watch closely, it's clear this is what's happening.
The switch never fails in test mode with a finger or with a normal rollover, but when exiting the left ramp, it bounces over the switch without triggering it about half of the time.
I tried bending the arm of the microswitch to maximize sensitivity, and that helped a little, but I still get lots of misses (which I've seen in test mode and in gameplay).
Further bending the switch to get more of the wire exposed above the playfield seems like a solution, but I'm not sure if it's a great one.
Are there any rules of thumb about bending these switch actuator wires for lane rollover switches?
Does anyone have any other ideas for me?
Thanks!
