I have an old Williams beat the clock machine that is kicking out a ball and playing just fine except that it does not close the trough locking mechanism after gameplay begins. Therefore the game is always stuck on Ball 1 and the game never ends.

Anyone had this issue before?

Thanks!

Quoted from RetroRyan:

t does not close the trough locking mechanism after gameplay begins

If you're referring to the Ball Release solenoid that has a Black&Orange wire on one terminal, what's this switch on the Game relay doing when you score 10 points or Tilt the game?

I will take a look and report back. Thanks.

Nothing happens when you score 10 points. When you tilt the game it engages both the tilt and game relays engage. Also, if i manually engage the game relay the ball release in the trough de-energizes.

Thoughts?

So my understanding is that the game relay should engage once scoring begins which then closes the ball release unit.

Ok so the game relay issue has been solved and the trough is locking. Now i am having an issue where the game over relay does not engage after the 5th ball is played. The 4th ball relay comes on at the proper time but after the fifth ball drains nothing happens. I did clean the 5th trough switch and check the wires and also cleaned switch at game over relay. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

Check the Make&Break switch on the 4th Ball relay down and to the left of the Ball Release coil I circled in red above.

For a switch to work 3 things are necessary:
1) When open, there should be a small space between the contact points (duh)
2) When closing, the long blade's contact point should push the short blade's contact point enough to move the short blade
3) The contact points should be clean, which they usually will be if #2 is happening

Cleaned this switch and checked it and it seems to ve doing its job correctly. I dont see any broken wires either. Anything else i should check?

the game over relay does not engage after the 5th ball is played

Then Inspect and diagnose this circuit with Alligator clip jumper wires
