    This works because you are reflowing the solder on the surface mount parts. More specifically, the BGA (ball grid array) parts that have no pins, only bumps on the underside that cant be seen.
    A good fix for your application but not really applicable to pinball since the BGA parts havent really taken hold yet.

    But wait, the Wizard of Oz uses very small BGAs on the LED driver boards under the playfield.....perhaps
