Different types of sellers: There are a lot of sellers with bad reputations out there for selling bad parts but some only have a problem when something legitimately goes wrong, i.e. the seller actually sells working displays but when one finally shows up not working he puts up a front to avoid losing money, half-bad kinda thing. (Although it does sound like they may have been that way, broken and slightly damaged, to begin with)
Meaning, just because you got good working displays doesn't mean he's flawless as I'm sure you know. Glad to hear this worked out.
