Documenting another Bad Cats playfield swap. Crazy as this will be my third! It’s a clean, functional but very well worn playfield. It will be getting new plastics, ramps and anything we find along the way. I’ll be using the kruzman kit to prep the new playfield as always.

I have documented this title pretty well I think on the other two so I may not get super detailed this time. Please comment if there’s anything I should address or share.

Some pics of the areas needing parts removed to fit on rotisserie. New playfield and old ready to be torn down.

New pop bumper bodies will be used. They’re pretty beat up. The same for the metal yoke. All these parts will get replaced with a new fiber and metal yoke, spoons, skirts, and springs.

Karolina was supervising the tear down. I think she approved by the evidence of her rolling.

Pop bumper studs aren’t countersunk as you can see so this is my process.

Hand countersink to get a safe taper.

Carefully open up with a countersink bit. Check for size/depth.

Blow out the hole with some compressed air or hot air or you have it!

Use glue from Ron’s kit to lock in the edge.

Carefully set the studs in.

I was one short (I use new and prefer the black twist shank ones from Marco).

T nut count was helpful from Gerry’s swap last year: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/bad-cats-playfield-swap-ii-youre-one-bad-cat#post-5299195

T nuts all installed! I use new on all swaps. I don’t see the point of saving a few bucks and they’re often all jacked up anyway.

I never have done a playfield swap but I did purchase a bad cats playfield from CPR. I did not know I need to prepare the holes on the playfield.

So glad you are documenting another swap

I just hope people keep feeding you games to swap... great to see these

Thanks man. So far people keep sending my way. I’m for the people so I hope that all helps others. That’s my goal.

This and all playfield swaps will need prep. It’s not hard, but there’s a lot involved in a swap and it’s never a simple swap parts over.

Mech tear down begins. Drop target assemblies are ok but will need one drop target and a 5 drop rest ledge if I can find one.

Dmacy

You mentioned needing a new ledge for the target. I had the same issue. I made one from lexan, which was simple. The sheet of lexan was like $6 as was the knife at Lowes.

I documented it here. https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/documenting-a-drop-target-fix-with-target-ledge-lexan

The pop bumpers and flipper assemblies. One of the pop bumper brackets needs replaced as it is loose. I have good spares so will use that.

The rails were in good shape so they got some paint and reinstalled. All the posts and most rubbers are installed. I used some orange post rubbers to add some color but they have the rubber black ones they can swap out if they want “stock”.

Underside is getting slowly populated as clean and tumbled parts become ready. They’re having me replace the GI and insert with some LED’s. There was a mix of incandescent and some old LED’s. Swapping in a mix of CT and Comet non ghosting in inserts. Color matching except the yellow and orange will get warm whites.

The old ball trough parts were pretty rough and rusty so will get new ones.

Quoted from dmacy:

old ball trough parts ... get new ones

Wait... how ?!?!?

No clue but I’ve found these same parts having similar rusting. I save good used ones and the nice spare had the same rusting. Weird.

This plastic lines up differently than the original so new holes were made. Note the original was missing the spacers to hold the flasher light up. I had some spare spacers so recreated what was missing.

Linear target was put back together minus new target decal. I had a spare screw to replace the original thats rounded off from the ball hitting it.

Fishbowl ramp dissembled. It’s back together sans the switch. The wiring is getting cleaned before it’s installed with a new switch. It had some previous “repairs” that will get the correct switch screws.

Few more plastics get installed.

One flipper is rebuilt and mounted. Sling coil brackets and trough eject are assembled with new coil labels. The target decals showed for linear target so was able to get it completed.
