Backglass Repair With Wall Safe Tape
So I'm really not adventurous enough to do a backglass repair with some liquid compound...
So this idea dawned on me....

The tape could eventually dry and shrink from the heat of light bulbs, taking away more paint.
The spray-on clear such as Krylon triple-thick is actually quite easy to use. Just cover the display windows before spraying. When it has dried a bit, you can carefully push the flaking parts back in place and then spray another layer or two.
