I had a friend make a backdoor out of 16 gauge sheet metal. I need to put in a key lock hole. Is there an easy way to make this flat sided, round top and bottom hole? Thanks.

Drill a round hole slightly small than the width of the flats. Then use a half round file to shape the hole you need. It takes just a few minutes.

They actually make a knockout punch tool for that shape cheap but personally I would just drill a hole and file as you will likely open the door once during ownership.

Greenlee # 61086G double D 3/4" knockout punch for cam locks used in vending/amusement games. It's not cheap though.

If you were mass producing doors, buying this punch would make sense. For a one-off, the drill and file method would be the way to go.

I purchased a Greenlee punch to assist in making the coin slots when fabricating coin boxes. Although expensive I did not find them particularly friendly or useful and returned to a start drill hole and jigsaw to make the slot. I agree the best method at least cost is the drill and file for the camlock slot.
