The entryway to my gameroom is a non-standard 28”. There’s no molding or anything that can be removed to increase the width at all, so to this point if I want to move a game inside with the backbox still attached, my only options that I know of are Stern (27.75”) or Pinball brothers (27.75”)

I was just curious if any other older solid state machines had backboxes that are under 28” width

There is another option--remove the backbox, or just remove the hinges from the backbox, and turn/rotate the backbox.

Data East DMD pins have backboxes that are 27.75”, their early alpha numeric pins have backboxes that are much wider at 30.25”.

You’re not wrong, just not in the budget right now!

Always an option, I’m more just curious what would slide right in

    Great, another option!

Wedgeheads (although you would just take the head off any EM and it would be an easy move) Also.... Bonzai Run is skinnier than any other SS game that I can think of because of it's weird backbox.

Early solid states and EMs (anything before about '84) are generally designed to have the head easily removed. Usually 3 connectors for EMs, maybe 10ish for most solid states.

Head width isn't a problem if the head is off

(you physically can remove heads from later games, but it's more like a couple dozen connectors on some of them)

How wide are the pinball 2000 backboxes?

Pinball 2000 will fit! Only two machines but they are pretty neat, especially RFM with the new code.

I am right there with you on door width. I have moved probably 20 B/W games from the 1990's in and out by dropping hinges off backbox and doing the 90 degree rotation just for the 2-3 feet to get through the door. I either use 2 people and a lift table or 3 people with one on each end and 1 holding the head. No drops so far but 1 or 2 close calls.

I think gottlieb system 80a and b and early sys 3s are well below 28”

The P3 Multimorphic is 28.75 inches wide at the backbox. HOWEVER, if you can get some buddies (or Craigslist lackies) to help you detach the head from the hinges and walk it through wiring attached and reassemble it, there are a half dozen modules with a dozen games between them you could easily walk in and out of that door (widest dimensions 23 inches). Don't get me wrong, it would be a few hours getting it through, but once inside you could easily swap out modules. Just a thought.

For older games I undo the hinge bolts in the head. Then just rotate the head like ForceFlow said. I’m 29” so WPC and a few others don’t fit or are most likely gonna scrape.

This would take away from the pinball budget. Non option
