So the backbox GI connector in my Rocky and Bullwinkle is burnt crispy. A few questions. It currently uses 2 eight port IDC connectors with a "z" pin in between. Do I need the same configuration to rebuild it? Can I crimp and use a male and a female connection? Can I still play or could it cause more issues? I am just getting comfortable with some tech work but am unfamiliar in rebuilding connectors.

It's crispy because of heat caused by electrical resistance.

I'd keep a fire extinguisher nearby!

Re-pinning connectors is surprisingly easy. Replace the old IDC connectors with Molex connectors (more surface area in the connection for conductivity). You just need the male and female connectors, trifurcon pins, and a crimping tool.

I just found this site, which at a glance seems to explain everything well:

The original connectors are there only to ease manufacture. A good solution is to remove that Z connector completely.

Does molex make a male and female plastic piece? I'm not sure how to connect them since they used the z connector.

Yes. Ed has them in .062 and .093 and .084. Connectors and round pins.

I repeat. You can simply splice those wires together.

Chris is connect, the Z connector you can splice. Any connector on the board you will have to repair.

I need to replace my J5 connector on the PPB, I installed a new PPB, but my connector is broken, can someone please point me to the correct parts to change this to trifurcon. Also I need to make a jumper wire on the power supply CN9, my new board doesn't have wires, just a connector. I am planning on using the wires and connector from the old board, so I would just need the Male connector and pins if you can point me to those. thanks.

Bump on my question..

Ed will have what you need.
Trifurcon pins....pick up 25 of each size. You'll need to accommodate about 18AWG wires. Don't forget a keying plug.

So i need the .156 with the different wire sizes, correct? Then whatever housings and keying plugs. What connector is the 4 pin yellow, yellow, white, white on the Power supply? Sorry for the excessive questions, i want to make sure i order the correct parts once and do it right.

That connector carries AC power for the GI to the PS.
It's a 4x1 position .093 connector. You'll need (at least) 4 male and 4 female pins that can handle AWG 16 wire.
Part Number: 02-09-1104
Part Number: 02-09-2103
Part Number: 03-09-1041
Part Number: 03-09-2042

....all from GPE's site.
