I was wondering if someone can tell me what type of lock and cam should be in the back box of this? There's a standard one there now and the cams to short, I put a longer cam in and its hitting the back glass. I'm not sure just to bend it up some or if there was something special there to begin with.

Mine just recently quit doing anything at all. Power it up and the GI comes on, but that is it Got some work cut out for me

Sorry this took so long. My Dad got very sick and I had to leave town. He's improving now but long road ahead.

Here are the pics. I am pretty sure this was a 7/8" lock
I had to replace mine as well but I think I had the cam (right angle piece)
The secret is the right angle cam. Hopefully you still have yours

If not below are some potential suppliers. You might need to modify it/grind it

Replaced C2 and C3 and it's working again. I don't know at what point this happened but none of the flashers seem to be working (as well as the starwarp ramp lamp board and top backglass boards. I have juice coming to them so not sure what is up.

EDIT: Okay, flashers and warp ramp lights are working, but the 2 boards under the backglass Time Machine are not working. They appear to be getting voltage and they aren't burned out. What flasher set are they?

Hello gang.

I just picked this game up and it’s very fun!!

I’m new to this pin thing overall but would love to know a couple things.
I keep reading at the flippers are too powerful. I would have to agree. It seems like the original owner combatted that by tilting the machine steeper formfaster play. I would just like to make sure i don’t break any ramps.

What can i do to change the flippers? Also one of the bumpers doesn’t seem to work all the time. The ball hits the bottom or the number and doesn’t react. Any tips on how to make those work better?

Welcome to the club!

1) changing the flipper coils will reduce the power. Search this thread for the correct lower power coils. [EDIT coils are FL11630]

Easy job to solder them in. Do one at a time and match the placement of the wires

2) I had the same issue with the pop bumper closest to the player. When the ball hit the top of it there was very often no response. Lift up your playfield and check all the mounting screws and bolts for that pop. Make sure all are snug. If so, then use your switch adjust tool to bend that spoon shaped end of the switch “upward” slightly so that the point of the plastic skirt comes closer to contacting it. This makes the pop more sensitive.

Look at your pop mechs and read this post

OK. This is going to sounds silly. What is a switch adjust tool look like? I don’t think i have one. : (

#209 5 years ago

The bottom of my main warp ramp is starting to become brittle and seems a bit thin (the orange part). Is there anything people do to thicken/strengthen them up?

You want one. Makes adjusting leaf switches simple.

Can anyone confirm for me if both flippers should trigger lane change / extra ball light (outlanes) change? Only my right one does and the left flipper doesn't have a double leaf.

Can’t be 100 percent sure, but I think it is. Will try to check tomorrow.

#219 5 years ago

I might be wrong about single leaf, what I meant is it didn't seem to have the switch for lanes (is that triple?)

This game has been on my 'wish list' for a while.

I finally found one and was about to move forward but I have just discovered the game does not have a chime mech.

Are these impossible to find, or are there other chime units out there that will work with this game?

If by some chance anybody has a Time Machine spare chime unit sitting on their shelf they want to sell please pm me.

#221 5 years ago

Hey guys. I am currently looking for a Time Machine. My wife really loves this one! So if your wife wants a pinball machine...YOU GET IT! lol If you have one or know of one for sale please shoot me a message. I live in Bristol TN so I am looking for one that's within a days drive (up to 6 hours). But if it's cheap enough I may consider having it shipped. Thanks!

My insert under the "Time Machine" going to the ball lock ramp was burned out and "repaired" at some point. So the artwork is missing over the replacement insert. I'll be replacing the replacement insert as well since it wasn't supposed to be clear. Could someone scan the car artwork for me or take a high res pic of it so I can create a new decal for it? Thanks!

Also my audio on a few of the vocal call outs have a "static" sound. Particularly the "back to the 50's, 70's. 80's..." call out. Not sure if this is supposed to be like that or not. I thought maybe it was supposed to sound like old radio static or something. If it's not supposed to be that way, is there a way to fix it? The rest of the audio is clear as a bell and sounds great. thanks!

AWESOME! thanks! That should work perfectly. Is the insert red or orange? Mine was replaced with a clear lens. Also did you see my other comment about the audio? Does yours have that old radio static sound?

Feeling great to Join the club...it took me over 20 years to join the club again...I owned the pin in the mid 90s and then sold it to a friend for a reason I can't quite remember...this one is a beauty and I get great joy out of playing it again..and just simply looking at it.. bringing back great memories and also making new ones for me and those who come over to play

Hi, i just got my Time machine today, after a couple of games the machine is saying there is a ball missing...
All balls are in place.
I did some testing with holding the switches down with my hand and then pushing the start button. Checked the connections of the 3 switches...
Dont really know where to look next, anyone got any ideas?

Thanks, Koen

one or more of the trough switches may not be registering

#232 5 years ago

TecumsehPlissken in switch test mode, it is not registering the 1st ball, can i do something to repair the switch or could there be an interuption going back to the motherboard? Or should i just replace the switch with a new one ? Thanks for responding, Koen

the trough switches on the first four data east games seem to be prone to this problem from time to time (as well as many system 11's) ... best thing is to replace the suspect switch as they can be flakey /work sometimes & then sometimes not... but in the meantime you can check the diagnosis by physically touching those switches by hand to see if they register with coin door open & glass off

Couldn’t find any ball guides for this game so had a bunch made. The original ones were made out of aluminium so I am assuming a number of people have issues. There were super expensive to source but at least this will fix the ball hop issue. Have 9 sets extra of anyone needs these will be selling them. Just getting them powercoated and will post when the final versions are available. Wish there was more stuff available for this machine such as ramps and plastics as it is such a great game to play would love to fully restore mine.

Thanks! Can’t wait for you to check out Jokerz and Swords too. Not sure when I am getting XF yet (possibly this weekend), so you will either get to play swords or XF. Come down soon!

Great job on those. They are desperately needed on almost every Time Machine. I ordered a set from Cliffy

He specifically makes them for this game. Look about halfway down the page for links to "Steve Faiths Time Machine"

Ya seen that after we got them made, lol...

Figured do a nice powercoat on them, my machine has a beautiful baby blue wire form to go with machine, so figured would do in that colour and see if anyone in the community was interested in a set specifically for TM since I have 9 extras.

Fantastic idea. Love to see pics. Love this game and it's retro factor!

The machine isn’t done yet, but this is what the powder will look like for the guides. I have to say one of my favorite colours for powder I have done to date.

Can someone take a picture of the pop bumper light wires where they connect on terminal stripon bottom side of playfield please.

I tested them physically, the one on the picture did not get any registration. so i replaced it with a new one. But still, the same problem, not registrating
I located the plug on the cpu where all the trough switches come together and there is no cable disconnected or anything, it all looks pretty clean actually.
Don't really know what to do here
Any suggestions are more than welcome!

thanks, Koen

I'm shopping for a few machines and I know i'll have to change the three lane guides on my Time Machine, but I don't know what model to choose (plus i've got issues with the inches system).

Could someone indacte me which ones are to be used on this model, please?

Brand new to the pinball owners club. Bought Time Machine as my first pinball. Having a blast with it, but have a question I am sure you smart people can answer Had someone come out to do a few repairs and get it working after the move and quote on a cleaning and LED install. One thing we noticed is on the back board where it is (supposed) to light up and say STARWARP, it doesn't. Oh, it lights up, but no letters. there seems to be absolutely no evidence of there ever being letters there and the guy says it is an original board from what he can tell. I trust this guy 100% and he has been recommended over and over in this forum for repairs in my area.

Any thoughts on how this happened and how I can "buy some letters" Vanna? lol
Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure I understand? The STARWARP letters are part of the backglass and the lights light them up due to the way the mirroring is done. It 'should' be a mirrored backglass. Is yours? Or is it maybe a reproduction sheet copy taped to the glass that didn't get the 'mirroring'? That's the only thing I can think that would cause what you are seeing.

You got it, it lights up, but no letters. Should be part of the backglass, but the letters are not there nor look like they ever were. We took the back glass off and looked behind and in front. It is nothing taped to the glass and it is mirrored. Evan states it is original backglass with no modifications. Was just wondering if I bought a very rare version (ok, wishful thinking lol).

I assume my answer to getting these letters is find an original backglass to buy from someone. If i feel the need to have letters.

Thanks so much for the quick reply.
