Ressurecting a pin is always a good deed, carry on

Quoted from boagman:

Well, we will agree to disagree, then, which is fine. I'm puzzled, though, because even by your what-can-only-be-described-as *very* low bar for what constitutes a bad game, Popeye qualifies: the upper playfield Swee-Pea shots, by my standards are pretty much unshootable (with any real accuracy IIRC, anyway).
"Wonky" is about as charitable a description as I've ever heard used to describe that horrible, awful game. I strain to think of any machine that came out of the WMS factory that sucked quite as hard as Popeye did. Popeye was, and is, *awful*, even when restored to pristine condition. There's only so far that you can shine a turd before the rag becomes a problem as well.

+1

Last time I played Popeye I walked to the pin thinking "there must be something with this game that I haven't yet understood, it can't be THAT bad as I recall it to be!? Maybe if I really tried to get the rules properly or something..."

Forced myself to play it for over an hour straight (game were set to freeplay) and just didn't have any fun. The theme is uninteresting, the shots are nothing special, upper playfield hides bottom playfield, no real fun gimmics or toys. The session simply solidified my thought about the pin; it's wonky, bland and boring. F*ck Popeye!

The fact that not a single person came to me and watched/queued for that hour also tells me the other players there had the exact same thoughts as me about this turd of a game.
