Well, I had my baby a few months ago. Actually brought him home 11/18. A special day for baby pac (refer to flyer)

And...now... it’s time. Anyone else do this recently? Will I ever be finished? I started with the lamp driver headers. And thanks to me checking bulbs with the power on, I blew a 5060. So I replaced that as well.

I thought I was done with the board, but just noticed in one of my pics that I forgot one header. Grrr. I did find some cold solder and hope this clears up my flakiness on an otherwise working Baby Pac. I will be repinning as well.

I’ve already capped the monitor. My sound volume is currently low and rather un-adjustable which just showed up one day. I plan on replacing pots and caps once I get to the vidiot.

I guess I just need some words of encouragement...

First side stripped, sanded, bondo, sanded again. Second side needs a corner rebuilt, so it’s going to be a bit tougher.

Tiny bit more sanding to do, but considering I’ve never used bondo before I think it’s turned out pretty good...

Vidiot repair available. Message me if needed.

#606 5 years ago

I just picked up a Baby Pac-man. It's missing the Vidiot board. If anyone has one they would like to sell please let me know. Also, the playfield has some big wear spots that someone tried to touch up and doesn't look very good. I was wondering if anyone has used the decal overlay I see for sale on ebay? if so, do you like the outcome?
Thanks for any help

There are two overlays on ebay both different companies. I had both, the Phoenix Arcade overlay is much better quality. My overlay is 3 years old now and I play it almost every day. There is a lot of prep work to do it correctly. First pic is my playfield. Second is after all the sanding and clear, and sand and clear. Then complete with the overlay'

Hello, I know it is a stupid and crazy idea, but do you think it would be possible to plug one of those "60 arcade games from the 80's" card ( 60-In-1 Vertical JAMMA Game Board ) into a babypac ( and obviouly connect the screen, the joystick and the 2 buttons ) and have a "switch" between the actual babypacman game and the 60 games menu?

With extensive splicing and cutting and rewiring, it would be possible be extremely inefficient, I believe

CPR is looking for a donor playfield to make a repro. If you reach out you may be able to get a free playfield for sending yours in to draft the CAD work. I have the Phoenix overlay but never applied it because it developed a small bubble in the mylar laminate over the artwork.

I've been working on mine for months. The .156 connectors arent too bad, but when you get to the .100s it gets really hairy and I have 5 more to go.

#613 5 years ago

Can anyone point me to a site where I can buy the replacement interlock switch for the back door?

Mine's a 4-lead switch and all I can find are 6-lead switches.

I’d buy pass it. I just banded mine shut for troubleshooting anyway

I have an intermittent reset issue when playing a game. Replaced all the IDC connectors with molex, communications columns are matching, but when I'm playing a game it will seem to randomly either lose connection to the vidiot or reboot. Anyone else have this problem?

Yes, I also replaced the pins on the PCBs. The ones at the bottom edge of my MPU looked particularly corroded.

Mine's an Alltek that I bought new, so dont think thats the issue. I dont see any corrosion on the vidiot or lamp driver pins either, but will put some deoxit on them and wipe off to see if that helps any.

A lot more paint, cleaned up the coin door, stripped and painted the speaker covers, some wet sanding, and some new T-molding...

(Went with the glossy t-molding since I just never liked the dingy look of the old faux-leather.)

Just a shout out. I'm repairing Vidiot boards again. A few pinsiders have used my service before.

#624 4 years ago

So my E of TUNNEL and my right red arrow light are now flaky. Of course it's because I was putting LEDs in it but I thought I was careful. The E light doesn't come on at all but if I waggle around the E light the red arrow stays lit constantly. Should I attack this as a wiring/diode issue or as a transistor issue? They are of course the lights on the Q23 transistor.

Hi

Maybe someone can assist me

My baby Pacman worked perfectly seriously like 2 hours ago

In the middle of it sitting in attract mode and even just after playing a 2 player with my son I loss my video

I checked all my TP and getting the proper values per Clays Guide

Little background

New Altek Mpu
Monitor was fully rebuilt
New Pots on Vidiot
New 9928 Chip on Vidiot

Game has been a tank in all honesty

Here is pic of it earlier today

No since the Vidiot isn’t working right my mpu doesn’t properly boot

I can hit the video test and comes up looks terrible and all confused

Any pointers or help would be awesome

Okay after clearer thinking

My Vidiot only gets 9 out of 10 flashes

So at least it’s a start to fixing it

Yep. Especially if you were replacing bulbs with the power on.
Confirm the socket terminals under the playfield aren't touching anything.
Then check/compare transistors on the Lamp driver. You can use a multimeter on diode test.

I actually blew out that exact transistor myself. I had the power on. Live and learn...
Full disclosure, I've also blown the solenoid fuse when the flipper mechs came in contact with the lock bar.

Possibly time to re-pin connectors and solder new pins to the PCBs.

#633 4 years ago

Seriously, do not touch or change the lamps with the power on unless you want to replace the transistors.

Hi

Yes I am awaiting the new chips

I’ll swap one at a time per power cycles see what happens

I didn't, and generally don't... but that also doesn't mean I was as careful as I should have been when it was turned back on.

When are we getting the repro Playfields?! Mine is just rough and it looks worse and worse. I’ve considered doing work to protect it, but why bother if the repros are coming soon?

#638 4 years ago

Ok, so I am trying to replace what I assumed is a bad transistor on the driver board at Q23 for a bad tunnel E light and right spinner light as they no longer came on.

After replacing q23 with a 2N5064, the transistor smoked and blew. Great! then I tried a 2N5060 and it started to blow, too, so I powered it off. Is it possible I have bad diodes on the sockets or is it something worse? How should I keep troubleshooting this? I don't *see* any bad grounding in the lamp cabling or any voltage crossing.

#640 4 years ago

Sad there isn’t a “heart-eyes” emote on Pinside! I am absolutely thrilled for this!! Price is steeper than I had hoped, but I need one. Gonna get all new starposts and such for it, it’s gonna be gorgeous to match my already beautiful Baby!

Well that’s cool.. I’ve been messaging KevinCPR for a while now about the baby pacman playfield I sent him six months ago to be used for this project, but have received zero response. Guess he got what he needed :/

CPR has reached out to me from the public web page request I had sent and has apologized for the lack of communication, and that they would make it right. Hopefully they work with whomever runs the Facebook page to resolve that issue too.

I wonder if it's Stu who is running the Facebook page. He's in AZ, isn't he?

It seems odd to burn a bridge like that for someone who provided CPR with something.

I am sure CPR reads these and is on Pinside.
I know this is true because I sold him my old Baby Pac.

At this point they need to get on here, apologize and make up some fake story that they didn’t understand. Following this they should overnight him a new playfield and apologize.

How are they even waiting on this? Wake up?

He tried to help the community and shipped a playfield.

It’s a tiny playfield and the right thing to do. This thread won’t end or go away anytime soon!!!

Now get to that fake apology and we want to see pictures of that playfield in a Baby Pacman!!!!!

No idea. I’m at a complete loss as to how CPR has their business structured at this point. Just finger pointing, lack of communication and bad customer service. If whomever runs the Facebook page is actually affiliated with CPR, they need to let him go.

I would’ve been a little less irritated if there was a little bit of customer service in his response.

CPR; cool they make what they do, they’re not my first choice if there is one. Customer service is an impossible win sometimes, but man they need to up their game. At the very least make things right with Wharhed

#650 4 years ago

As an aside over this recent development, the reason my SCRs kept blowing up was because one of the sockets had leftover solder on it from a previous owner's repair.

IMG_20191013_161123 (resized).jpgIMG_20191013_161123 (resized).jpg

Cleaning out the solder and replacing the SCR did the trick. Now the whole playfield is LED'ed. Looks nice.
