Recently picked up a Baby Pac, and have been going through it. I'm having problems with the Video MPU. Here's what's been done. The 6803, 6809, 6821, and 9928 have been replaced as they were missing. Both 2114s check out, and all chips that are socketed have new sockets. Two out of the three oscillators were broken off, all three were replaced.

It was completely dead, but now I'm getting two flashes. However, the 6809 isn't booting and is completely locked up. All address lines are floating and all datalines are low. The clock and reset lines are both reaching the chip. I've checked out all of the traces around that section of the board and haven't found any shorts or broken traces. All 4 ROMS check out on my burner. I've tried a 6809P and a 6809EP and both have had the same luck. Anyone have any throughts?

Go back and check the work done on the replaced sockets. The pads and traces are quite fragile, so there's a chance damage may have been done to a pad or trace. You'll probably have to through and test the continuity for each socket pin through to the next accessible connection point on the board (*not* just to the pad under the pin).

Also, as a quick check, hold the board up to a bright light. Sometimes you can spot a broken trace like in the example photo here:

If you haven't seen this, there's some additional details on flashing LED, under the section "Baby Pacman Vidiot Board LED Flashes":

Quoted from Zsuttle:

With the second flash, does it lock on, or does it turn off and stay off? If it locks on, there's a problem with flash 2. If it turns off, there's a problem between 2 and 3, but probably with 3.

I've checked the continuity from all of the outputs on the 6809 to all of the surrounding chips, no breaks. I'm not worried about the continuity, just more or less why the processor is in lockup. It's definately a problem in the video section, not the sound. The processor inputs don't indicate anything that would cause a hangup. The LED turns off after 2. I finally scoped the clock, and it's pretty messy, so maybe new processor is bad as the crystal was replaced? On a side note, I did some reading on the 6809EP and it's not 100% compatiable with the 6809P without some modifications.

Zsuttle did you ever get past the second flash? I have the same problem. I have put in new sockets, checked continuity, and replaced the 6809 with a 6809P. No luck.
