I would check the Player Unit for misadjustment or a short, etc. PU is on p.18 & 19: https://www.ipdb.org/files/119/Williams_1976_Aztec_Instruction_Manual.pdf

Since that worked I would expand the jumpering so you can see exactly at which point things change from correct scoring to the lock up.
