Just received the options email...#139.

Anyone know if butter cab requires additional build time?

#139 invoiced today. This is really happening.

I got my invoice about 2 weeks ago (#139). No word yet on pickup. Guessing butter cabinet takes longer. I am not complaining, it will be ready when its ready.

Quoted from mslow:

#134 put on the truck today. I got the butter cabinet. Proof butter is not holding up production..

Picking up #139 (butter cabinet) on Monday.

Quoted from He-Man40:

Picked up #137 (butter cabinet) Yesterday

I so wanted 137...glad you got it Dino.

You picked up yesterday? I was told no pickup Friday because the shop was closed. Monday pickup for me. Cant wait!

Is this normal? It seems like an opto issue on the Morty target. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Note, it happens most often on the Morty target but does occur on the Rick target too. It can happen with or without balls locked.

#4793 3 years ago
Quoted from epthegeek:

Just a guess, but it seems like the game doesn’t think the target went up, so it’s re-trying. The drop targets have a single physical switch that lets the game know if the target is down when closed, or up when open. If the switch didn’t open properly, the game doesn’t think the target went up. Maybe check out your drop target operation with the drop target test in the service menu.

Thanks! I will give that a try and report back.

#4824 3 years ago
Quoted from mbasnight:

Has anyone else had trouble w/ the garage sensing a ball from the right orbit? I land it in there and about 20% of the time it does not register and it just waits for "where are my balls".. its quite annoying!

You are not alone. I have had it happen several times too. I am trying to replicate the conditions that cause it to happen but have been unsuccessful thus far.

Turned out that some wires were rubbing against the drop target mechanism preventing it from bottoming. Hence, the switch could get caught in an open/closed state. Easy fix, all good now.

Here is a vn instructional video from sdtm for installing the QuietFan from Pin Monk into RM.

After the wizard mode announcement plus wizard green card bonus I am finally hyped up 8 months after order. Not only have the PinMonk fan already but also a fresh lcd on order.

The PinMonk fan upgrade is a must. It is well worth the effort. I can't recommend this upgrade enough.

Less than 100 plays and it looks like a crack has started to propagate. I am confident Spooky will provide a fix. If not, this will be a fun problem for our community to solve. Challenge accepted!

Note: Shaker motor has been off since day one, so not sure it is a contributor.

For those keeping track. #187 ready for pickup.

#5790 3 years ago

Okay....I have to ask. In recent days, I have seen multiple spots sell for $3k - $4k. Some of those spots being very far down the build line. Yet, I have seen fully loaded NIB machines for ~$11k go unsold despite being near ready for pickup/delivery from Spooky. What am I missing?

If my calculations are correct, if you buy a spot for $3k - $4k, you will end up paying $9.5k - $10.5k for a bare bones R&M. Plus you will wait months for the machine (which isn't necessarily a bad thing). However, if you buy a fully loaded R&M for $11k, you get all the features and you can be playing in a few weeks. Again, what am I missing?

Full disclosure, I placed a for sale add on Pinside a week ago for a fully loaded (minus bill acceptor) R&M that I listed for $11k. I got several tire kickers but nobody committed prior to my deadline (I kept the ad open until Spooky contacted me that the machine was ready for pickup). I thought if I was going to sell, it would have been far easier just to have the buyer contact Spooky and make arrangements. Anyway, I decided to keep and store.

Again, just curious to the logic. Thanks.

Picked up #187 this morning. All I can say is Spooky Pinball is filled with the nicest people. My wife and I got the full tour of the shop and even got to chat with Charlie. First class operation all around. A special thanks to all the line workers too as there was a flurry of activity going on. I thought I heard 30 machines on the line and 15 going out every week. Well done!

To those who are waiting for delivery from KingPin Games today. Your deliveries might be slightly delayed as my vehicle was blocking the loading dock as we took the tour preventing him from loading up. Sorry.

Does anyone know if spooky charges tax based on Benton or your local tax? Also is there a benefit to paying cash? I'm driving out to Benton to pick it up and curious if I can pay when I pick it up or if I will need to arrange something else for payment. Curious on tax and cash to see how far from butter I am.

I was charged the IL tax rate of 6.25%. No, cash does not make a difference. I paid in cash for my first machine and I used a credit card for the second machine out of convenience. No difference between final amounts.

While swapping out the broken spring plastic, I decided to change the color of the ship spring base to transparent green. Better? Worse? Try a different color?

#5878 3 years ago

Well....i went back to the drawing board. I really didn't like the original or my reprint in translucent green. So. I tried to make a death crystal version. Any better?

#5884 3 years ago
Quoted from DanQverymuch:

Those crystals look cool, but they don't have a reason to shake whenever the ship does...

Well....from the episode, the ship did crash into the rock structure that contained death crystals. The impact would have shaken the ground. So, it all makes sense to have crystals shaking with the ship. Sorry....best I can come up with. I still think it looks a heck of a lot better than the original ship mount.

#5887 3 years ago
Quoted from DanQverymuch:

That rationalization works. But if you split the crystals from the ship mount, and mounted them in front of it on the other stationary mounting screws, I would definitely want one!

Good suggestion. I will give it a go.

Quoted from razorsedge:

Looks great! ... an idea for even further improvment; the crystals can hide the spring mount, mount the crystals to the stationary outer section instead as someone else suggested. Even maybe make the spring mount just a smidge shorter, and then adjust for less violent ship movement?

Thanks to all for the feedback.

I redesigned the crystals to make them stationary. I also made the spring mount shorter. All pieces printing now. I will share pictures in the morning.

#5894 3 years ago

Once again, thanks to all for the feedback. I think the standalone statically mounted crystals was the way to go. It only requires the removal of one lock nut to mount. It will pretty much cover up the original spring mount. I will show some pics of it all back together shortly.

#6029 3 years ago
Quoted from gac:

Would you be willing to make another and sell it to me?

I am seriously considering it. Still need to figure a few things out. For now, I get the power from clipping onto the coin door lights. This method makes its simple for those wanting an easy/reversible mod. However, it also means the crystal lights are always on (and it is kind of bush league to connect this way). Honestly, even without the lights, it looks much better than the stock base (IMHO). Although, the blue lights really make it.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, just PM me. I will let you know soon if I decide to make a run of them.

#6058 3 years ago

Here is what occurred after the update (Note: code was NOT the problem, keep reading).

After cursing Eric (only kidding), I discovered pop bumper parts in the bottom of the cab (2 washers and a fiber yoke). The problem was the result of the ring/rod separating from the pop bumper assembly. After reassembling, all good.

Note, I never found either of the nylon locking nuts (yes, I checked all around the speaker). Makes me wonder if they were ever attached. All good now, the code is rock solid. My apologies to Eric for even thinking the code was the problem.

Well...after several weeks and several mistakes, I have finalized the design. If interested, the mod will be available on the PinballLife website sometime in the the next week or so. I chose to distribute through them as it creates the least amount of work for me.

Many thanks to all the Pinsiders that provided comments and support throughout this process. What a great community we have here! Enjoy.

Driving to Spooky on Wednesday to pick up my game... YAY!!!!!!!
Can’t go inside though because of Covid... BOO NOT COOL!!!!
Does anyone know if the spooky box is the same size as a boxed JJP pin? I just picked up GNR about a month ago and that fit inside my Pilot (box and all) so I’m guessing RM will fit too with the box?
Appreciate any info on this.

If you are picking it up, they will have it wrapped (no box). If you asked for the box, it will be strapped to a pallet (and can't be placed on its side).

BTW...Congrats on your game!!!

Thanks to everyone for the overwhelming support on this mod. It has been a crazy couple of weeks fulfilling/shipping all the orders. Quoted from goingincirclez:

"the constant-on blue light makes the game headache-inducing unplayable to me"

LOL. Come on now, is it really that bad? In all honesty, it really came down to simplicity of install. I wanted a mod that could be installed by any skill level. Yes, it is possible to make a version that ties into the stock crystal lighting circuit. However, it is a much more difficult install. Personally, I prefer the mod to be always on. Of course, I may have a biased opinion.

Edit: Actually, I was thinking about my original prototype when I made the more difficult to install comment. In order to make a flasher only version that ties into the stock crystal, it would be as simple as sourcing a 12v led strip (to replace the current strip) and fabricating a new wiring harness.

#15895 2 years ago
Quoted from goingincirclez:

Unfortunately, in my own personal case, yeah...

Understood. I'm happy to help you get the mod to where you need it. We can figure it out and share with the rest of the community. I will try and get a prototype working this weekend. Thanks!

#15907 2 years ago

Blue Crystal Mod (Flasher Only).

Personally, I don't like it as much. I actually have both the stock and mod crystals always lit blue. However, for those of you looking for just a Flasher version, here is what I did. Note, this almost identical to how the original mod worked/installed. The main difference is the heavier gage wire, 12V led strip, and connecting to the stock crystal flasher circuit opposed to the node board.

1. Remove the entire mod from the machine (including the wire harness). Make sure to plug the original 2 pin connector back into the node board. If you have questions, just follow the original mod instructions in reverse.

2. Remove the led strip and wires from the crystal mod.

3. Use a 3/32 (or 7/64) drill bit to open up the wire holes on the crystal mod. Note, this is required to accommodate the 18 gauge wire (12v Flasher requires heavier gauge wire). See attached picture.

4. Fabricate new crystal lighting. See attached picture. Note, I used 18 gauge stranded wire cut to 14" lengths. Strip/Tin both ends of wire. Attach to LED strip. Note, I bought a reel from Amazon, 12v blue. Again, See pictures.

5. Fabricate new wiring harness. Again, use 18 gauge wire, strip/tin only one end as the other end will have an IDC connector. The IDC connectors can be found at Pinball Life (0.156" IDC 2-Position Connector for 18 Gauge Wire). Also get a 2-pin male/male Z connector. Cut length of wire to ~20".

6. Install mod. Feed wires through playfield and mount crystal. Connect wiring harness to stock blue crystal Flasher circuit. See attached pic.

Quoted from orlandu81:

Will you be offering this variation going forward? If so, can there be an option for us to send the existing one back to be modified (for a reasonable fee)?

Again, there was a reason I went the route I did with this mod. I am only posting this 12v flasher option as there have been a few people interested. If I can source some higher quality 12v strips I might make a flasher only version in the future. Again, thanks to all that have supported this project. Definitely some lessons learned on my end.

Quoted from Manic:

Well I appreciate the work you're doing as I didn't want it always on either (for a couple reasons).
I was hoping there might be a way to simply have it piggyback an existing rgb insert or GI in this game but I suppose it's not as easy as in the old days.
This way you'd have some movement of light in the crystal and a complete shutdown along with every other light in the game after each ball.
Thx for the efforts.

I will continue to explore options. Don't give up hope yet.
