Quoted from Oneangrymo:

I have had this game since it came out but just started to really play it , man its hard! Just get drain after drain right down the middle.

It is a tough game, but if the game hasn't been dialed-in properly it's much worse.

#18652 6 months ago

You guys have it all wrong. You shoot for the scoop and the ball will magically go into the loop instead like 99% of the time!

#18653 6 months ago

Just had an interesting one.
- In Whirly Dirly
- Start MB
- End MB
- Open lock
- Lock 1 ball
- Start Meeseeks mania
- Open 2nd lock and ball immediately goes into lock
- Second meeseeks ball drains while there's still time left
- Machine gives me back the one ball but ends meeseeks mania

I expected it to give me another ball for the lock

#18654 6 months ago

Played fine a week ago. Just turned it on and stuck on this.

Pinball Life has every available part for this game, Please ask me how I know???

I have replaced every PC board in this game and it still has a mind of its own!!! False Drain and Stuck in modes, game has acted abnormal from day 1 , Don’t get me started that its my fault somehow., i have 15 other pinball machines that haven’t given any issues remotely close to this game, if it wasn’t such a great game, i would have burned it to the ground!!! Just no excuse for the poor build/software issues. Someone has to know how to fix it. Explain why it will play perfect for first 2-balls, then it acts up, Why never during the first ball does it ever have an issue? Makes 0 sense!!

#18664 6 months ago

Anyone please feel free to call me, if you have any suggestions? It was doing this before I updated the code at the beginning of August. Is it possible the code didn’t download properly? Its not hardware, everything has been tested or replaced. 305-215-2075

This seems like something you should be reaching out to Spooky about to see if they can determine if it is indeed a software issue or hardware issue. Did they direct you to replace all those parts?

You said " It was doing this before I updated the code at the beginning of August. Is it possible the code didn’t download properly"

Is this what you really meant to say? Or did you mean it wasn't doing it before you updated in August?

Possible you need do a re-image of the disk and see what it does from there? You could stay on the code prior to Eric's recent additions to see if it is stable.

I've owned two R&M games, and I'll tell you, they both had a host of problems. It took me months to get the first one playing right and shooting well.

The second one was less problematic, but still took hours of tweaking to play properly.

I've owned dozens of games and have never seen anything like this (though I have an Alien LV on the way, so that comment could change).

I love the theme, the rules, the humor... But IMO only, the game feels cheap.

I don't see myself letting go of my R&M again, unless I run of of space or money.

Due to my experience with R&M, I made the decision to cancel my pre-orders for Halloween and Ultraman.

The reality is, we all have different experiences, and we all come out of it with different opinions.

Some people are diehard fans of Spooky, and all the power to them.

At present, I would like not buy another Spooky or JJP game, but that's just my experience.

Don’t forget to tell whoever is helping you that you’ve replaced every rollover switch with magnetic switches. Any time you cut into/alter the electronics you run the risk of problems.

I've also owned many games. R&M feels solid and rich to me...the audio blows the competitors away, the quality of the clearcoat on both the PF and cabinet (for butter), the real back glass, the powder coat, etc. Definitely not cheap! Could the quality of the build itself be improved? Absolutely, however the quality of the materials used are are exceptional (especially when compared with Stern).

I decided to try a set of the precision flippers out on R&M. Wasn't super into the idea of them in general, but I've always felt there was a lot of inconsistency with R&M. For that reason, I thought I would at least try them. I have only played about 15 games since installing them, but they do seem to make a big difference in terms of consistency and hitability of the shots (left ramp specifically).

I've put a ton of time into dialing R&M in, as I think it's a great game, but just needed a little extra TLC. One big issue was everyone struggling to hit the left ramp. Because of that I had the coil power dialed way up and installed pin monk coil fans to try to keep the heat down. I did some testing for him on ACNC and they definitely perform as advertised. After installing the precision flippers, I knew immediately I was going to have to turn the power WAY down. The game was playing so insanely fast and the flippers were hitting with a ton of power. Even after turning the power down, all the shots are hitable (more hitable than with the power up really).

Also had the girlfriend flip a game. She's always complained about the clunkiness of spooky games, so she's a tough sell. One game and she said it feels like a totally different game. All that said, I don't think I'll put precision flippers on every game I own, but I think in certain instances they can make sense.

Thanks for the review. Definitely want to try out them out. My game plays pretty well right now but I am still getting some flipper fade even with the pin monk fans. I think having these rigid flippers would allow me to turn down he power and that in turn should make the coils cooler. Did you install one on the upper flipper as well?

I installed all three precision flippers, but I only have the two fan pin monk system. I ordered that before he offered the three fan kit. Plus I never struggled with fade on the upper flipper.

Yeah haven't had any issues with the upper flipper and I also have the two fan kit. But mine was the prototype as I helped get temp readings for pin monk. It really is just the left ramp shot for me. I can hit it but it gets harder during long games.

Definitely been the only shot everyone constantly complains about. I even considered using a dremel to cut down the hole that feeds the ball behind the back box. I figured doing that would make it just slightly less steep, but I decided against that much augmentation.

I am not a fan of changing flippers on games, but if they make a shot that is unnaturally steep, easier to hit, then maybe I need to reconsider.

anyone know where to tap into 12v? Got the pinballmod co light kit but he says to plug into the PC power supply box which in his game (late build BSE) has two open 12v connectors. My build #65 does not have the same PC power supply box nor the 12v connectors. He is researching too but any thoughts would be welcome. Also interesting if the pins were built slightly differently over time as they came off the line? Any Spooky folks who can assist?

Yes, I did replace all three. My only complaint is that I had the feed off that upper orbit to the upper flipper perfect. After the install, I started getting some ball hop (similar to before I adjusted the guide when I first bought the game NIB). I just moved the rail out a bit to eliminate the ball hop.

Not having a manual is completely ridiculous, it's just beyond me! Stern have them, JJP do, even Homepin!! Why don't Spooky?

#18687 6 months ago

Please explain why the first 2- balls play perfect, then the 3rd ball false drains ? I tried setting the ball limit on several different amounts and also tried 1-2-3-4 players, something about ball 3-6 that it doesn’t like,,after ball 6 the next few balls play perfect, also sometimes the mode doesn’t end, game doesn’t recognize a ball has drained. The game has had odd issues from DAY 1 new in box, so stop saying i did something to the game, i got tired of the loop roll over never registering, so yes I changed to MRS, Please explain the loss of speach ? Please tell me where to ship it to be fixed? AJ is guessing and has no answers, i have replaced everything he told me to do, no luck. Its basically a $12,000 paper weight at the moment!!!

Yes it seems odd that there is no user manual. Is this an oversight or does Spooky just have no interest in making them? Does Spooky have anyone on the team experienced in InDesign or such that can make one?

Didn’t you buy the game from someone else less than a year ago? Is it possible that something happened to the box on delivery with the previous seller or before being sold to you?

Yes, a manual would be nice. But I don’t go around to car enthusiast forums complaining about what my car doesn’t have, either. There’s nothing owners and fans can do to help you here, and the horse has been dead for some time. I still occasionally get the false drains and or unearned multiball. For me it is the left opto in the horseshoe lock that seems to cause the wacky issues.

Sometimes it shows up obviously in switch test, but sometimes it takes a bang on the playfield to show up in test. Pushing on connectors usually fixes it for a long time. I turned my shaker off.

I don't believe I experience the loss of speech.

Yep, and the energy Stern/JJP/etc. put into their manuals has declined over time. JJP manuals use to rock, but I believe they decided to scale back their investment as well.

Practically speaking, it hasn't been a big deal for owning R&M. If you have any parts questions, email Spooky and they will likely help. I'll take great customer service over a manual any day! In an ideal world, would be nice to have both. Oh well...

While I agree Spooky service has consistently been excellent based on every request I've made, I also own games from decades earlier. Just like the older games, my Spooky games I expect will age gracefully in my collection. My concern primarily is based on history, corporate history: Where would we be if Gottlieb, Williams and Bally had the same approach? Where would we get critical OEM info later on? In my manufacturing career 4 of 6 companies don't exist anymore, mainly through acquisitions and the result - no one to answer that phone or email. So, a manual isn't an unreasonable ask.

Dumb question - but are you positive you have the correct number of balls in the game? Also are you on the latest code? Like others have said, its probably a faulty opto, or a bad connection somewhere, but no idea what to tell you. Sorry for your troubles, I know it can be very frustrating trying to figure something like this out.

Did you also roll your eyes when I beat the dead horse about new code multiple times in this thread, only for Eric to release some new code even after many of you would say code complete and good enough as is?
Spooky doesn’t read this forum?

Yes, but that's mainly because I don't think your posts had anything to do with Eric working on the code. If I'm wrong, mea culpa Mr. Spicoli, and thanks for all you do.

Replying to people who need help with their machines with "Go check the user manual" isn't going to get a manual materialized from Spooky, and it's not helpful to the people who have issues with their machines. But you do you my friend.
