Added Rick Potion No. 9 and Scary Terry adventures plus 4 feature dimensions.

Ah cool! I misread the original Spooky post on Bookface, so I fixed my post. Rick Potion No. 9 and Scary Terry are two of my favorite episodes. Can't wait to hear about and see details of them.

#8702 2 years ago

Sounds like a great update! The last note in the changelog is important as I am sure some people are going to miss this and think something is wrong after updating.

Changed: I cut all the base volume settings on assets in half so that the in-game volume
control is hopefully more useful - so the game will be quieter and you'll have to
up the system volume a bit.

Code is live on their site! 2 new adventures, 1 of them available only on a full punchcard so we now have a "wizard mode" of sorts. Spooky just upped modes from 8 to 10... for free! Looking forward to (hopefully) more updates over time!

Glad to see they aren't following the deeproot subscription model. Oh and spooky actually builds games.

So much fun to play... and put mods on too.

I have the exact same Rick figure for my Whirly Dirly mod and planned to swap him in. I am still waiting for #544 though so all my mods are sitting in a box. Looks great and glad to see what I planned will work!! I can't stand the Funko eyes on the Rick figure that was used for the mod.

I am out of pinball for good, if subscription model catches on.

Or start collecting B/W games again!

Does this imply that the volume of individual assets is configurable in the menu somewhere and that Eric simply lowered their default values? (Never looked)

Game didn't seem too loud or too soft to me but of course I screwed with the dials on the amp on day one so the range of control to be had from the coin door gives me just what I want. - Hell, I'm probably just not following the subtlety of Eric's words well enough.

Everybody I've seen talking about it sets the volume on like 1-3 because it's "too loud" and the volume adjustment can go up to 20 -- so I took the values used for "how loud is this asset supposed to play" and cut them in half, so you have more dynamic control of up/down from the coin door.

Update looks awesome!

Anyone else think it would be useful if the Card Stamp animation could be double-flip interrupted?

#8710 2 years ago

Can’t wait to see videos. I have a standard on order so it will be a long time for me but I love watching videos of the game as it progresses.

Same. While the idea of an internet connected machine seems intriguing, I think the drawbacks outweigh the positives. Can you imagine getting a virus on your new $9K pinball that fucks up the computer? Not to mention, pins are already expensive toys...hard to justify continuing to pay for the machine long after it's purchased.

With pinball having switched to using full-on computers, this vulnerability has always been in the back of my mind. I personally am averse to making any pinball machine I own another member of the IoT.

Aww bitch, new code????

Cough, cough... All of a sudden I’m not feeling well. I think I might have to call my boss and go home early.

Thanks for this! I've been taking notes of the clips that seemed louder than the the rest, I guess I'll review once again with the new code and see how it goes.

Just for reference what I noted on the Oct 12, 2020 code was:
- Intro to whirly dirly was a lot louder than the rest, easy to test when you start both the mode and multiball at the scoop at the same time.
- At the end of Get Swifty mode, there is one short blurb "Hmmm" that is *really* loud.
- Screw turn match sequence seems louder.

Anyway, I'll play the new code and report back!

Still not "fully" random -- the "feature" then "positive" then "negative" rotation still exists - the setting just doesn't hold back the more challenging dimensions from appearing as the first one in a category. Also, with the 4 new feature dimension there should be greater variety for the 'first' one, even if you don't change the setting.

I am new to the hobby. I have machines from Spooky, Stern and JJP and of course williams and bally. Spooky is my favorite company out of the three still making pins. They are not as big as the others and they take don't take their customers for granted. I can't believe they just put out an update for Rob Zombie. That was awesome of them. Now they are updating the code for a game they are still producing. I can't wait to get my Rick and Morty.

Anyone have the instructions on what to do when you perform a system update and get a brick out of it.
I've done every update since June and all the betas until November, never had an issue updating.

I turn it back on, does a little blip in the top left of screen, now I think I see a cursor flashing in top left corner.

omg I love Scary Terry. Anybody play it yet? Do they use Terry's voice? Does he say "bitch" a lot?

I need to know! This could be the most fun adventure yet.

epthegeek Is there a plan for a wizard mode down the road? I love the game but I want a wizard mode so there's the feeling of a huge accomplishment.

Oh yeah he does! Awesome mode, have to run make shots and hide and make shots. I got to a gator dimension and aggravating sounds? Dimension with traffic sounds. Rick no. 9 is only on Morty’s choice? If so, gunning for that next.

The "wizard" mode stuff is the Morty's Choice - ie: Rick Potion #9. You can only get it when the card is full (and you can set how hard it is to get there by how many stamps are lit at start) and it's pretty darn long and involved - more so than other adventures.

#8730 2 years ago

Just wanted to give props to Eric and the team for the awesome update! Beyond the 2 new adventures (1 being a wizard mode) and 4 new dimensions there's also a ton more callouts, improved lighting and sound effects and way more diversity in the dimensions now that you only have to make it to Dimension 4 to see the later dimensions. -I love the new sp-0tz dimension. It makes for a more fun game and just feels way more polished now! I know a ton of work went into it and it shows.

Blip in the corner of the screen sounds like it's not really booting at all. BIOS battery and/or it's connection, SSD drive connections, hook up a keyboard and hit 'F1' possibly. Maybe call spooky - they may be more familiar with the symptom.

Quick rundown of the new adventures:

Scary Terry: You Can Run, But you Can't Hide

The adventure is in 2 phases, Running, and Hiding.

For the "Run" phase, a set of 3 shots is lit and they rove together, indicating the direction it's safe to "Run". You have to make 4 "Run" shots (or let the timer expire) to light the scoop to transition to "Hide". You can continue to make "Run" shots instead of hitting the transition if you wish. "Run" shots raise the value per hour of the "hide" shots.

For the "Hide" phase, the Scoop and Garage are lit to "Hide". Hide shots show the "x Dream Hours Later" text type screen like the episode used. Hiding in the scoop is 1 hour, Garage via right orbit is 2 hours, and Garage directly is 3 hours. Each shot can be used twice. You need at least 6 hours total hiding before the end shot is available. Once you have six, the scoop lights to end the adventure - but you can still collect more hours via the garage if you want to push your luck.

Rick Potion No.9:

The adventure runs in many phases - it's long/challenging because it's a 'wizard' thing.

First Phase: The infection
The infection is triggered by a shot to Morty, which causes him to apply the potion to Jessica. Once she's infected, Morty is out of the picture and you're spreading the virus. 2 shots light, either one will cause the spread. Each spread adds a few more lit shots. After the Morty shot, make 3 infection shots to fully infect the dance.

Second Phase: Escape
Once the infection is spread, you have to get out of there! Shots to Rick or Morty will make progress toward the exit. Shots to the other lit (yellow) shots and the crowd will close in. If you make 4 yellow shots before escaping, they catch you and the mode ends.
Make enough purple shots to escape and the scoop lights to move on.

Third Phase: Mantis Serum
Rick screwed up and the antidote didn't work. So now he's working on a new one. Mix up a new attempt by aligning the colors of the 3 sections: Ramps, Loops, Targets. It doesn't matter what color you get them to, they just have to match. The colors rotate between 3 choices when hit. Once you get the right mix, the scoop lights again to move on.

Fourth Phase: Desperation
The world has gone to hell. Everyone is turning into cronenberg monsters. Rick and Morty will be lit alternately to argue about what to do - the other shots are lit orange and will transform more people into monsters. When you hit and orange shot, it will go out, until they're all done and then they'll re-light. The orange shots raise the value of the argument shots - you can shoot as many as you like, at risk of not finishing the mode. Finish the argument between Rick and Morty and the scoop lights for the final shot.

It's not the original voice but it sounds damn good. The adventure needs to be played off family mode or else you won't hear the word bitch, bitch!

Are we going to find out who did do the voice? I'm going to throw in a guess of Charlie but I don't know for sure.

Quoted from Morinack:

I would normally tend to agree, but I've had a virtual pin on the network for 8 years with no issues. Viruses are not as problematic as people would make them appear. A decent router, and some common sense goes a long way. The hard drives going bad is a much more realistic issue.

That being said, I do not want a 'forced to be online' model of pinball. Having to rely on external corporate servers in an industry that is unstable is not a good use of my money.

Maybe I'm not on the right page, but when I go to update the code from Spooky's GAME SUPPORT page (https://www.spookypinball.com/game-support/), I don't see any specific instructions on WHAT TO DO and/or HOW TO DO IT.

What I mean by that is, it doesn't say "To update your code, make sure to click on the CODE UPDATE link under the image on the left. Once downloaded, move the .pkg file to a USB key (and any other instructions required once on the key - for example, with Stern updates, you need to UNZIP the files and then upload the unzipped files to your key only). I assume we just have to move the .pkg file to USB key on its own, then stick the key into the USB slot behind the R&M translite, I assume? Shut the pin off before we do so? Then once done, we'll see something on the screen that says "Update complete" or something? Then we should shut the pin, remove the USB and then re-boot?

Most of what I'm writing above is "assumed" because I've done Stern updates, but I feel for those people who have never done a code update is that's the page they land on. Not very user-friendly.

Love all you do at Spooky but I would politely request a better EXPLANATION of what one needs to do in order to update their machine's code ON the GAME SUPPORT page (not here on Pinsider, which not every owner follows-- we know this) and maybe even a quick VIDEO tutorial they can also place on their YouTube channel and then embed onto that page.

The more information you can provide the end user, the less questions Spooky will receive and the easier it will be for everyone.

Loving the new code. One potential glitch I have noticed is that the music no longer changes when I change to another dimension. Just stays with the normal mode music. No biggie, but the different music was an easy way to figure if you were in a positive or negative dimension without looking.

Good point. simple to put the instructions in the readme/changelog for the new owners.

On the motherboard are some USB sockets (rectangular metal holes). Some of them will have blue plastic bits inside instead of black, those are the 3.0 ports. Plug your USB stick into one of those.

I didn't change anything about the music in the dimensions - that should still work as intended. 3 of the 4 new feature dimensions use the 'standard' game song (spotlights, dogs, horns) though.

Just finished a 6x Rick Potion no. 9 Awesome!!!!!!!!!! However, continuing on playing after that, the last two digits of my score were "76" and I only had 25 mega seeds. It then it froze on me during Total Rick All / MultiBall (2 balls left and 97 million score) and had to reboot.

This update is awesome!!! Thanks for the incredible work!! The end of the card is so cool now and the music during selection!

The scoop was lit to end Rick Potion and I thought I've never wanted to hit that scoop more
