Going through a cabinet restore now. From all the research I did and talking to people who went through this. The felt cabinet protectors are the only ones that prevent damage. The metal or plastic pincab protectors work well covering up damage but will not prevent it. The felt should prevent damage from taking place. Also I know when you apply decals yourself you need to wait a while before attaching legs and other hardware to make sure the decal adheres correctly.
