This is thread number thirty seven on the JJP pf hit parade... so far I have been immune to the JJP kool aid, what with their amazing thematic choices. If GNR had been Pink Floyd, or Classic Van Halen, they might have got me, but Toy Story is a pass even though wife and I are both big Pixar fans and this pf issue is the biggest reason why. If they got Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to do custom callouts, however, TS CE's will fly out the door... which is just sad.

Quoted from jeffspinballpalace:

What if you bought nib from an original buyer on Pinside Market, and who may have bought it from an unlicensed JJP dealer???

You better set up a truth table and start filling in the squares... or how many buying scenarios are you going to cover here? (Just poking a little fun)

My observation is Distributors are caught between operators who don't give a crap and consumers who do. If a distributor drops a manufacturer due to poor playfield cosmetic quality, he can no longer sell that brand of machines to his operator customers who could care less about cosmetic defects. So you can see, depending on the distributors customer mix, they may or may not want to bust the manufacturers balls. I think this is the biggest reason we don't see much action from JJP or the distributors on cosmetic pf defects. But I think Pinside is a consumer echo chamber that amplifies the angst against manufacturers and the radio silence from JJP comes from this customer duality that the distributors now have to navigate.

Or I could be full of crap.

Carguments can be a bit off here as a car is a vehicle and a life protecting safety device. You expect that to be tested and certified. Nobody is testing a pinball machine for 35mph impact damage to crash test dummies.

Dam your posts are more impressive each day. 100% agreed.

Yes, I upvoted it as well... seems Crazy and I can agree on somethings... just not paragraph markers. CrazyLevi

Quoted from wisefwumyogwave:

The dimpling explaination is BULLSHIT, I can't see any dimpling on my jp prem, but my STh pro has a shitload my WOZ HAD LIKE 8 dimples. It doesn't bother me that it's there, it bothers me that on some games it is and some isn't and their generic response to it is it's normal- clearly that isn't the case.

What they are implying is that the wood quality is a crap shoot these days, some is as hard as "The Rock Johnson", others are softer than grandpa without his Viagra

#505 2 years ago
Quoted from Elvishasleft:

" Thanks for the thousands of dollars. Be advised the top of your instrument may or may not crack or warp based on the quality of wood we source"?

Isn't this Ovation's sticker on their guitars? I heard Ovation is making a violin now. It's called the "Violation"

Quoted from chuckwurt:

Hopefully they pull a 180 on all this stuff soon and improve their materials at the same time.

My Breath? Not holding it. But maybe Pat can talk them into it for Toy Story? That sounds like a broader appealing, nice family friendly title/theme to pump out, screw up, and get every Boomer, Millennial, and GenXer mad at you all in one go.

Nice.

#660 2 years ago
Quoted from TheLaw:

They couldn't even talk each other into including cliffys on DI during "the good times."

That's kind of the point of my post... if Pat can't get JJP to do the right thing, is TS heading for the same train wreck on track 69?

(Oh, do you need a shine?)

Quoted from woody76:

if its crap they should not be selling it.

In good old 'merica, it's always been caveat emptor, not caveat venditor

Mods on pins are kind of like fuzzy dice hung on the mirror or that suede plastic bobbleheaded dog that people put on the rear window shelf of their hot rod. Just a way of differentiation. Not a big fan of flashy mods, but I do enjoy a tastefully done tweek.
As an example of a mod I liked and bought was the wood laboratory table mod for Frank in MB. No flashy blinking lights, just a little touch of wood to enhance his "slab". I feel no need to "pile on" a ton of tin toys with an led shoved up it's ass in order to feel good about my machines. But tastefully done, mods do have their place.

Quoted from Shapeshifter:

I think Jack may go into this mode when dreaded playfield questions arise. [quoted image]

Isn't the last "Have no fun" monkey missing?

EMI radiation is reduced due to moving all 60Hz wiring inside the metal backbox. What this also does is make the certification inheritable from title to title without requiring retesting. We did the exact same thing when certifying equipment for use in aircraft at Grimes Aerospace. Any change in the lower cabinet requires the entire machine to be retested. Since everything remains in the head, as long as there are no major changes in the head, certification can be done by similarity and becomes a paperwork only affair. This saves costs (someone say cost cutting measure?) So anyone saying it isn't is fooling themselves.

#971 2 years ago
Quoted from Zablon:

Maybe the trick is just to keep them in the box for about 5 years until the clear cures.

Maybe the trick is not buying a JJP NIB? Nobody has ever built a pin that I couldn't wait 3 or 4 years to buy one second hand.

And damn the route rash on the cabinet and chipping playfields... the need to own a pristine queen is ridiculous if what I plan to do is toss around large chunks of steel into rubber, wood, and plastic.

Does anyone have a score card for this title fight? I'm not sure who is ahead right now, but somebody is in this for the win. If I could get a peak at one of the other judges cards, I might be able to catch up. Good thing we all have ringside seats to this fiasco, well except the moderators... I think they got seats behind a post.
