Recently found a NIB Avengers LE Hulk. Distributor is still asking full retail price $8600. I’ve seen NIB sell and flip for < $5500.

I’m most familiar with new vehicle purchases, and I know after a period (usually 1.5-2 years), the manufacturer will provide a rebate to the dealer. The dealer then owns the inventory and responsible for sale. This can provide significant discounts, and I’m wondering if pinball is the same.

Bottom line, once he box opens, the game is worth $5000-5500 at best. I’m just wondering how much room there is to negotiate with a distributor. He’s already held this inventory for 7 years.

Are there manufacturers discounts for aging inventory?

It’s worth $5000-5500 even before you open the box, that’s just where the market is for this title. The distributor probably paid more than that at the time, doesn’t want to take the loss, and is looking for someone who doesn’t know any better. Any reason you wouldn’t consider a HUO?

The price from a distributor has nothing to do with the value of the game. Unfortunately it also has nothing to do with this fame either. They have to continue at full price, because if they discount it down to the market price, they would also need to discount the price of other games. For instance, remember a couple years ago when the older games like TWD Pro raised to the Price of the brand new games? NIB TWD Pro went up a thousand dollars (street price) during its run.

If they sell you that Hulk for what it is worth, they won’t sell new games. Everyone will just start waiting until the close out price. Remember the example of Ripley’s? Stern changed almost all of their processes after that to avoid games being blown out the door.

And finally, if word got out that you paid a dist $5500 for a NIB LE, they most likely wouldn’t be a dist for much longer. It’s not 2010.

So all this to say, if that is the game you want, put out feelers and look for a nice HUO copy of the game.

NIB isn't an efficient use of money because of deprecation once you open the box. Unless its a title your love, a theme you love and something that you're going to keep forever. Maybe consider Home Use Only (HUO) used.

Specifically with a Avengers LE, the Distro has to sell at retail because they purchased the machine years ago at the whole sale price.

For the same price you could have a Batman 66, Iron Maiden Premium or almost 2 Pro models. Newer machines with deeper code and machines which reviewed much higher.

I personally really like Avengers LE, but I'd rather have NIB Batman 66 at the same price. If you're a huge Hulk fan and you plan on having fun forever, do what your heart tells ya.

I just purchased my second HulkLE. Which was like NIB. Great game, and as others have said. Look for a really nice HUO and use the change to buy some very nice mods. If you decide to buy this NIB you must be prepared to take a very big loss as soon as it’s opened.

Just for the record, the LE’s did not have an $8,600 MSRP in 2012. I’ve never owned an Avengers but my X-Men LE (which was the game immediately before Avengers) was $5,800. I do recall there was a price increase with Avengers but it would have been in the low 6’s in January 2013.

Paying $1000 over current HUO pricing
Would be fair , making it $6500 for this NIB

No mods of course

Best buy HUO with mods, if money for value is important

Also, keep in mind that this game needs a little tweaking to get it right. HUO is really the way to go on this title.

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the advice!

After some searching, internet pinball database is showing the MSRP to have been $8099. Confirms the distributor is asking above and beyond for the game.

Still seems way high. That ($8099) certainly wasn’t anywhere near the street price. Back in that era Stern had no minimum price advertising requirement and dealers would make huge discount officers and then undercut each other. If you would call around you’d get a great deal.

I have a friend that paid $6,900 for Hulk nib in I think 2012.

Stern is cracking down again on pricing - that's what one distributor told me last week anyhow... Which makes me wonder how the distributors are ever going to sell NIB LE that have been sitting around a while if no one is willing to pay full retail? I can still get a Deadpool LE NIB, but wasn't going to pay full retail for that. I wanted it, but will settle for premium.
