I did one more custom Avatar LE project while I still had my machine in the lab from previously adding the Scorpion Gunship mod.

This time I added a servo to move the Banshee head and a spot light for lighting effects. I’m using a custom designed PIC microcontroller interface to monitor the Banshee ramp switch as an interrupt to do various servo and/or light effects coded in firmware. The servo mount is a custom 3D printed design just for this project. I also detect when the game is idle and have various lighting only effects happen during attract mode. It it seamlessly integrated into the machine and has a factory look and feel.

Here’s a couple quick videos of one motion with lighting effect and one attract mode effect.

Animated Banshee when Banshee ramp switch enabled

Animated Banshee 1 of 3 different attract mode effects when game is idle.

Quoted from JagDaniels:

I had a simmilar problem, adjusting and bending the switch did the job. Really think it just should register a hit shooting the "captive ball" after locking it first.

Thought so - thank you very much.

Here's my story...

I love Avatar... have vinyl banners, 3D cinema items, a lot of the figures...

So 8 years back:
I preowned an LE... sold it and missed it...
Bought a pro again...
Upgraded again to an LE as it was closeby and price was ok.
My favorite machine next to metallica, walking dead, game of thrones.
Had to sell it 2 years ago due to a divorce (actually sold all my pinball machines except the EM's, gambling and arcade machines) yes needing funds to buy the house...

A dead period of 2 years without a modern game..
Last week bought myself a really perfect Pro HUO Avatar again... so happy to have my favorite title back. Adding the correct figures, stern leds, led odc as we speak...

And with the Avatar 2 releasing in a month, I will even more enjoy the machine.

I just picked up a pro, and the amp suit is broken on one of the legs.

Does anyone have a source/link to where one might be?

Thanks

Hey, they nearly all have broken legs. Try to find the Amp Suit Modell from Mattel, not sure the mc farlane version fits.
The mattel version does...

We don't have mcfarlane in europe.

Here the link :

ebay.com link: itm

Still the toy needs to be slightly modified to fit in the pinball machine :

Good luck !

Also keep in mind that the pro has the stone-gray Amp Suit and the LE has the Blue Gray Amp Suit. I replaced one of my legs a few posts back (post 1785)...which leg on yours is broken? I used the Left leg off the Amp suit I found on EBay so I still have the right leg...it is the stone-gray version. If you decide to look on EBay, keep in mind that with the new movie there is a newer version that may not match what we have on our pinball machines. Best bet is to stick with the original 2009 version.

Hoping for any help/tips - my blue monkey isn’t kicking a ball out at Start and the flippers aren’t actuating.
The RDA light moves left/right with flipper toggle, but the flippers don’t move, and no ball kicks out to the shooter lane. Everything else seems normal like lights & dmd.
Someone mentioned magnetized balls could cause opto register issues, but I swapped the balls out with new ones and still same issue. Thanks for any help!

Sounds like you blew a fuse on the power supply board, if indeed no coils are working. Do they work in test mode?

Thanks yea the other day I looked & visibly no fuses looked blown but when I went to test them my meter wasn’t working so I need to get a new one. The only manuals I found online were partial and didn’t show the lamps and fuses, if anyone has a link to a full manual I’d appreciate it. Somehow in my haste I forgot to test the flipper and trough eject coils, the machine isn’t at home so I’ll have to get a new meter and test more when I’m back at the game. THX

If you’re playing the game, the one on the right (closest to wall) is broken. However, it looks like the one on the left is starting to give too. It’s in queue to get shopped.... I have a new Mattel figure to repair it with once we tear into it, thanks to the suggestions/direction here.

This game begs for a color dmd, so I’ll be getting that as well once it’s torn apart. It already has inner art blades.

Excited to get it going! I mean it’s playable but it definitely needs a little love.

Thanks this chart is awesome for Sam systems!

Quoted from ZEN:

Sounds like you blew a fuse on the power supply board, if indeed no coils are working. Do they work in test mode?

After looking at the chart and getting back to the machine the F5 fuse light was definitely out (L17). I changed it and the light came on but then F6 light went out. I then looked at the flipper coils and one of the right flipper wires was pulled back at an angle where I almost didn't think it had the wire on it, so I straitened it and then the F7 & F8 lights went out. So I powered it off and put new fuses in F5-8 and now all fuse lights are lit solid, coil test works fine for both the flippers and the trough eject. But when I hit Start I get the same issue = no ball ejects and the flipper buttons don't engage the flippers.
Thanks for any further help on this one!

Since all fuses are now good and lights are on, have you confirmed that all the coils are firing in test? If all coils are now firing in test, I’d focus on switch test mode and see if anything looks wrong. See if anything looks open when if should be closed, like balls in the trough, or anything that is closed that should be open causing some sort of confused state for the machine to not start. Just throwing out guesses at this point.

I also swapped out the two 3amp fuses under the pf by the flippers, the coils for flippers and trough fire fine in test. I wish it had a nice error report when you go into the admin or power it on(; The trough switches all register 1 through 4 when I drop the balls in so it doesn’t seem like it’s a trough opto not thinking all balls are loaded, it should intimate list ball protocol if that we’re the case. Looking at the switch matrix In not sure what is supposed to be active other than the trough optos and the captive ball switch.
It’s just odd that pushing start will start a game normal and everything looks/sounds normal but no kick out or flipper action. So I’m starting to wonder if this could be a part on the board that relates to the flipper & trough coils? Thanks for any help

Here's a pic of my matrix in test. I have an LE and will have a couple differences, but it should be close. Mine has switch 18,19,20,21,39,46,47,58 and D10 and D12 dedicated L and R flipper EOS switches closed. Maybe post a pic of your matrix for us to decipher.

Ok Update!- I just started a game with the coin door open and then pulled the coindoor interlock switch out, and both flippers started working. I pushed the switch back in physically instead of leaving it up to the door to close it, and shut the door and now everything is working. Of course yesterday I swapped this pin out of my parlor and put a diff pin in its place until I could fix it lol. And the pin I swapped in had a left flipper coil get stuck wide open last night so I had to shut that game down.
I made T Shirts that say “The Pinball Life Ain’t Easy” for a reason hah(;
Ok so it makes sense that the coin door voltage switch has an issue that I need to assess but that was it so the blue monkey is back in action! Thanks for the assists guys.

#1872 1 year ago

I added this round magnet to ensure the switch gets depressed fully and case closed. Not sure why all the sudden it decided to not depress the switch enough. The mounting bracket looks like it’s loose and pushed away at the bottom but both screws were tight so I don’t know what’s up, but just glad it’s back online!

So it never gave you the 50/20V disabled message on the display when you were trying to start a game?

No it didn’t, everything appeared normal. It’s like the switch was almost fully depressed but not quite there. I’m leaning toward faulty switch at this point, but currently it’s working fine again. Definitely strange behavior.

Saw the new movie tonight and LOVED it. 3 1/2 hours sure went fast.

#1876 1 year ago

I saw the movie a second time tonight. First time in 2D (work invitation), tonight in 3D laser ultra and wauw 3D is the only way to go.
The people that were with me that mostly suffer from sickness because of the 3D had now zero troubles
I loved it too and will watch it a third time I think in cinema.

The thing that bummed me out was much of the dialog was so quiet.

I just bought an Avatar, so I'm a new owner. I have to say, I really love this game! I also saw Avatar 2 in 3D, and agree - my whole family loved it. Watching my kids try to grab at the fish in the remarkable underwater scenes was really fun.

I have a crack in my plastic piece right in front of the amp suit over the targets you shoot and it's driving me insane. Does anyone know where I can get one, or does anyone have the means to have one made?

Barely got to see it in iMax 3D before it left the theaters and Wow it was awesome! The first one was so cool in iMax and now all these years later I have a young family and this second one left an impression all over again. They touched on the ‘greatest hits’ from the first one but then laid another layer on!
Now I’ve just got to figure out what I can incorporate from A2 into my pin to bridge the theme!?! There’s not a lot of space on the pf to add and I know the gameplay is only A1, but would be great to incorporate something from the new one…

Just discovered another bug...

Start seeds and when it was last to qualify final battle... if you complete seeds during final battle, you get out of final battle with seeds (as the only one) already qualified (blinking). Most probably will happen with banshee and valkyrie too.

That and the link multiball bug when you fail to shoot the timed superjackpot you end up in the unearned victory lap phase.. you get stuck in that multiball without ability to earn the superjackpot again.

Just joined the club this weekend!! Bought my friends Avatar LE S/N 133 with only 296 lifetime plays! He bought it new in the box, and since he has a rather large collection it never really got played. My wife went over to it, powered up and fell in love with the theme and game. Happy Valentines day to her!

He had already added his choice of LEDs and mirror blades. Love it. Just ordered neon plastic protectors and a Pinwoofer kit for it as well since I've been impressed with their product in other games I've had. Looking forward to enjoying this cool pin and seeing what upgrades I could do.

I too just joined the club and wanted to know if there are any must have mods. I did some Google searching and Avatar does not appear to have many options when it comes to mods. I ordered the shaker, led premium kit from cointaker and the side blade art. Anything else I should consider. I will eventually do pinwoofer and pinstadiums.

Might be hard to get now with the new movie release. This was on my game when I got it but I had seen them on eBay. Most banshee figures are now from The Way of Water.

Does anyone know where I can get one, or does anyone have the means to have one made?</blockquot

Looking forward to enjoying this cool pin and seeing what upgrades I could do.[quoted image]

My blue Leg Lights look great on the game.

leonopteryx mattel

But it doesn't match the mode on the game... The leonopteryx is not a banshee

How to I go about ordering these?? I was thinking of adding them to my Avatar, Godzilla, LOTR, STTNG, and Space Shuttle if possible. I did not see them in the Market place store.

Thank you,

Thank you,

Same here, how does one order these.

On a side note, I am surprised by Avatar. I am enjoying the rule set and there is some flow to the game that I respect, however It's not easy at least not for me. Need to dial in my shots.i do love the stacking ability with this one too.

Super Stoked

any service bulletins

Only service bulletin I see noteworthy is to update the code to the latest to prevent odd startup issues.
https://sternpinball.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/sb177.pdf

Current code should be 1.20 in your game.

If they haven’t been done already, highly recommend upgrading the speakers. Lots of cool sounds missed by the stock speakers. My friend has flipper fidelity speakers. I have pinwoofers set. Both are a great upgrades to help immerse you in the game.
