How are the 3D affects in part 2 compared to the first one? Who viewed it in 3D?

I did and I didn't feel like they were as noticeable as the first movie, but still better than 95% of all other movies that get 3D releases.

I really enjoyed Avatar 2, not as much as the first, but was worth the wait imo. I'd give it a solid 7/10.

About the same. Lots of depth, immersive. I hated the HFR, but for some people that might make the 3D more immersive.

Just got back from the Theatre with the fam and we had a kick ass time. When it takes this long for a sequel to come out it's always suspicious but this one had it all and maybe more than the first. Surprisingly to me it def looked better the the OG, and sure there was some lame dialog here and there but I laughed, I cried; it was the total package. So would I buy a pin sight unseen...hard call the way the prices are but I think I just might! You'd really NEED Banderas to do the voice and he's a big get; but a Puss in Boots pin would ROCK!!!

I thought Avatar was going to be the biggest flop of all time. Yeah, I was wrong. I boycotted the film out of spite and have never seen it.
I’m gonna double down. Avatar 2 will be one of the largest money losers of all time.

and you will be correct

Quoted from CaptainNeo:

it's more "dances with Wolves" than Pokeherhotass.
Regardless, Avatar 2 will be better than the Avatar pin no matter what.

Pokeherhotass is the best porn title ever!!!

#264 1 year ago

It just passed the billion mark, so definitely not a flop.

#265 1 year ago

True story, Sigourney Weaver and some of the cast spent a year training how to hold their breath underwater. She was able to hold it for 6.5 minutes.

Well, that’s still a billion dollar loser according to Cameron… time will tell if it has the legs to keep earning.

Even when it's out of theaters, there's revenue that it will bring in from streaming. Not that I have any skin in the game whatsoever, but I think that it will do well next week when the holidays are over and the kids still have a whole week of winter vacation left.

Nobody really believes that shit. Cameron is just blowing hot air.

Movie is over a billion and counting. They are raking it in.

Sorry sourpusses. For better or worse it's yet another Cameron behemoth.

#270 1 year ago

The first avatar was better for me. I was not blown away by the 3D. It could be cause I was wearing glasses under glasses. The story did not matter much to me. It was about what I expected. It would have been brutal 3 hours without reclining lounge seats. I will see the next one. Hopefully it’s a little more interesting and has more UV trippy 3D goodness.

Quoted from CrazyLevi:

“This movie will only be successful if the writing is awesome!” Doesn’t really ring true. I mean..titanic? Avatar?
I have no idea if this will be a success or not but to pretend your average modern movie goer gives a shit about how good a script is seems to be giving them a completely undeserved benefit of the doubt.

As PT Barnum famously said, nobody ever went broke underestimating the the intelligence of the general public.

Great flick...our family enjoyed it

It appears to be the 6th quickest movie to make 1 billion Box Office...doesn’t seem too bad to me.

Yes, but with added oxygen solution thingy. I watched the Making of and they said it wasn't just take a gulp of air and hold it for 6 minutes. That would be world class. Great publicity though....

I think some here are just cranky that avatar is about to pass Pinside’s favorite movie in history, that brilliant Opus “top gun 2.”

I saw it in high frame rate 3d. It was amazing good 3d and I really liked the story. This should be seen in the theater this way as you cannot watch it at home ever no matter what home theater gear you have as the 4K 3d file will never be available for home use. It was truly amazing and I am very picky and rather watch all movies in my private home theater usually

I’m shocked that anyone likes high frame rate. It looks like trash. I can’t wait to watch it in 24fps 3D in my home theater.

I used to work at a game store that has a small adult video section. We had that movie. I actually watched it - it’s hilarious. We also had other 90s porn parody staples like The Flintbones, Beaver & Butt-Plug, and The Maddams Family (staring Gonad, Whorticia, Cousin Tit, of course).

They guy pulls of the look & innocence of Edward pretty perfectly. The sadness of him trying to play pool for instance; touching.

I mean, that movie was way better than it should have been.

Also, I don't think anyone cares about that, it's the idea that 2billion is an expected # to be profitable. That in itself is insane and I think leads to the idea that, it should fail because of it.

I think that's just hot air, much like Deep Root Mueller's famous "$750,000 a month burn rate."

Loudmouth blowhards just like to make shit like that up. Didn't they basically film THREE Avatar movies at once?

I can't imagine this movie really needs to make $2 billion to not be a flop, that was just bluster to get gums flapping.

Can't agree there...sans the god awful Mummy movie Cruise knows how to make a big ass spectacle movie.

#284 1 year ago

Oh gee...2 billion will be no problem. It already made over a billion and is not done with theatrical yet. Then there is cable, streaming, blu-ray, etc...the one person I'm not worried about is Jim!

So, for those who were on “Team Flop”, what are your thoughts now? Did you think it was gonna be like $30 mil opening & die from there?

“Team flop” here. I’ll admit that I thought the box office would reflect that the public is burning out on spectacle and is looking for more story. That was dumb of me.

I still can’t comprehend what about the moviegoing public’s habits over the past 20 years would have convinced you and others of this.

Nobody cares about story.

Agree! Just saw it tonight in 3D HFR and really enjoyed it. I'm not typically a HFR fan (looked bad for the 3 Hobbit films IMO) but for Avatar 2 it worked out extremely well. 24FPS 3D has always looked off, a bit dull, and slightly blurry IMO.

I just saw it in Imax 4D at a Regal theater. I would strongly suggest people avoid the 4d experience! I think they were trying for a Soarin' type feel with moving and vibrating seats, and the occasional smells, wind and water spays in your face. But the seat shaking was SO violent, my wife, 24 y/o son, and I all left with sore necks and mild headaches. The shaking was constant and violent and not well choreographed to the action on screen. You couldn't eat your popcorn without it literally being thrown all over your lap and the floor! And forget trying to take a drink, unless you wanted to get really wet. The constant violent shaking was actually stupid, and I will never go to a Regal Theaters 4d event again! If they reduced the frequency significantly and cut the intensity by 75%, I think it would have worked a lot better. Lest you think I am being a wimp, I enjoy all of the immersive rides at WDW and Universal and have not had such a bad experience at any of those.

As far as the movie itself, it was enjoyable but about 45 minutes too long. The 3d effects themselves were good, but then again I'm a big 3d fanatic! All in all, worth seeing in 3d - not 4d, but not quite as big a bang for your buck as the initial novelty of the first release.

This sounds fun..for about 10-15 minutes, but I can't imagine doing it for 3 hours lol.

Don’t the seats have intensity controls? I’ve been to D-Box screenings, and the chair has settings in case the shaking is too crazy.

Went to see it with my two boys. I had low expectations going in but we really enjoyed it. I was scratching my head in a few scenes, though. Are the Na'vi undrownable or something?

James Cameron roast of the "The movie is too long" comments are great. Agree.

“I don’t want anybody whining about length when they sit and binge-watch [television] for eight hours,” Cameron expressed. “I can almost write this part of the review. ‘The agonizingly long three-hour movie…’ It’s like, give me a f*cking break. I’ve watched my kids sit and do five one-hour episodes in a row.”

Hell grown ups are proud of binge watching whole seasons in a day.

Nope, if anything the endless Marvel movie continuing to do well should have tipped you off that the public still isn't ready for any real stories...unfortunately.

This happened to me last night too. Had never been to a 4DX movie. Girl wanted me to see the best version of this movie. Best = more expensive, so got this ticket.

3 hours of being thrown around, head and back slammed against the chair. Not the best circumstances for trying to watch a movie. Annoying and uncomfortable. A little carsick after.

The movie—like the first one which I hadn't seen until prepping for this one—was long and meh to me. Basic story, boring dialogue, and I guess I just don't get enthralled watching blue (and blue-green) cartoon cat people.

Anyone else still seeing people in the theater on their phones, talking loudly, running up the stairs, etc? I swear it happens every time. My wife and I took my parents to see Avatar 2 and my Mom was commenting afterwards about being able to see someone's entire text conversation in the row below. I enjoy going to the movies but it's been definitely less due to the behavior of others. During the pandemic we updated our home theater setup but still enjoy going to the movies for those big spectacle type films (Top Gun Maverick and Avatar 2 for example).

"Please silence your cell phones", "Don't turn on your cell phone during the movie"...see multiple people proceed to turn on phone and text lol.

TBH, I go to the theater for spectacle and watch the deep movies at home where I can rewind, and discuss...
