Ok so...i've never done anything to a pin machine before now so...

First thing i've done on my Attack from bruno Mars is to change the
lamps to leds. Some were not working anyhow - but - and i think i was
careful - now a whole bank aren't lighting at all.

Tracked it down to one complete lighting circuit on the main inserts.
Coming from pin 2 i think off the plug - but i haven't got any idea
where the fault is. The wiring seems tight.

A few lamps on the same circuit weren't working before (well they
were, then they weren't).

Any help here is massively appreciated.

Also - the lamp in the center of the bumpers has never lighted
and still doesn't. Is this a seperate wiring? (Not as important).

Aside from that - the LEDs look amazing everywhere else
and i'm glad i did it - i was apprehensive because i didn't want
to lose the classic look of the machine - but - i think it's better now.

The first step on any game that uses a lamp matrix is to isolate the problem to the playfield or cpu. (my guess is that since you are using leds, it's probably a playfield problem - usually if you have mucked with or touched something that would be the first thing to be suspect)

Testing the lamp rows and columns is covered in this repair doc: http://techniek.flipperwinkel.nl/wpc/index2.htm#lamp in the section: "Testing the Lamp Rows" and "Testing the Lamp Columns"
Once you have confirmed that the CPU is lighting rows and colums correctly, you'll have to go through each lamp connector in the failed row/column to determine the problem.

Thanks wayout - unbelievably fast response.

LOL you're welcome. I hope you find it quickly. AFM is a grail game for me. Good luck!

Thanks wayout, i appreciate your help.
And i flippin' love attack.

so... i returned to my AFM (just to play) and the lamps (except the bumper one) were all working.

so i played a while and it looked great....and oddly seemed to play better (is this possible?,
the flippers seemed to have more power - i'll rebuild them anyway cos they are 95%)

and then i went away and came back and the same lamps were gone off again.

could this be a loose connection? seems strange when it changes while no one is around.

cheers.

Something is intermittent - it could be a wire, cracked solder, bad/dirty connector (they lose their tension - the "springiness" if you will). Most of the time you will find this to be connector related. If they act up again, you could try powering off, and then reseating the connectors for the lamp matrix at the mainboard J121 and J124. If they begin to work after this, they may need to be repinned for a more reliable fix.

It's the pinball goblins...they live under the boards and in the cracks and crevices of each and every game we own.
