I have a Attack From Mars (Bally) which suddenly startet to behave strange. When starting the game and hitting all 3 targets to bring down the shield in front of the UFO, it wont go down. However, when player 2 starts it goes down and up but never goes down when all targets are hit.

When testing it in test mode, it works just fine. So this is very strange. Does anyone have any suggestions where to troubleshoot this strange problem?

Sounds like a loose wire. Put the game in test mode and move associated wires around to see if anything registers. I had a similar issue on roadshow where dozer blade worked in test mode but not game play.

Sounds like a switch issue. I'd start there. Both on the target bank and the motor up/down recognition.

Agree likely a switch issue. Any errors being reported?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys! Long story short, it was the lamp cable for the middle pop-bumper that had come loose from the soldering - and the end of the cable ended up on top of the pop-bumper switch.

That made the shield not work during gameplay as it disturbed all switches using the "green cable with a black dot" on it. Just discovered it by tracing all the cables on the switches not behaving correctly. It made all switches on 3 rows light up during test mode. Strangely the machine seemed to work fine during gameplay except for the shield and pop bumper.

Good to have it working again. Having guests with beer coming for this weekend so it needed to work properly.
