Hey guys...

I'm new to this thread and pretty new in general.

I just very recently acquired my FIRST pin - JJP POTC CE.
I'm considering an LE AFMr to pair with it.

(Two drastically different games ... and that's what I'm shooting for (see what I did there ))

Are you guys still loving it after X months of owning/playing and what do you think about the pairing?

#6632 1 year ago

Sounds fantastic!

Appreciate the feedback!

#6636 1 year ago
Quoted from f3honda4me:

I have JJPOTC and AFMr LE. They are a good compliment to each other, each scratching a different itch.

There’s a fair good chance you already informed me, but I figured it made sense to post it in the official thread as well.

#6637 1 year ago

Anyone know of any distributors outside of Automated with LEs in stock?

I’m trying to gauge how much time I may have to snag NIB.

#6640 1 year ago
Quoted from mtp78:

What do you have against automated ? I bought 5 pins from Mike including my afrm le ...No issues

I bought POTC from Automated as well.

#6643 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

You have no time left.
Get the black one from PPS.
there are probably only a couple left in the world NIB.
And they will most likely be black.
PPS has the Martian green trim and will make you a sweet deal of $100 to get a changeover kit.
It's a good deal.

Changeover kit?

And what is PPS?

#6650 1 year ago
Quoted from f3honda4me:

My AFMr LE sits next to my JJPOTC LE and they get along well.
[quoted image]

That’s a nice little collection there.
I also think WOZ is pretty great fun.

#6651 1 year ago
Quoted from pintechev:

I love my AFMr. Game never gets old. I often describe it as perfect pinball.

Highest rated pin on here for a reason. I wouldn’t think it would be, but I think the whole Mars/aliens relates to a lot of people.

And it’s fun. Not intimidating. Not complex. But fluid, fast, furious awesome action.

And I want one! lol

#6654 1 year ago
Quoted from pinnyheadhead:

Did you blow up the Death Star yet? Go Endor for the easiest path. I always recommend getting into a game and blow it up with a bunch high scores before you say good bye to it. You own some great games, but SW is by far the toughest game you own IMHO. It will be frustrating but will make a a better player. If you haven’t had a bunch of good play on it I would use it to work your flipper skills before you say bye bye. I mean you already own it anyway.
For me AFM is a super fun game. Just hit start again and again and have fun. MB also. Those pins do the job well. SW is different. It is “intense” fun. You enjoy watching your team play when the score is tied with five minutes left? Yes, but you may feel antsy and nervous while you watch and will get excited or down with the results, but you will be back to watch again next week. Why would someone put themselves through that?! That is SW.
That is the difference between all the types of games for me. Good to have choices and some variety, but everyone is different.

I played this game onsite. Managed to hit that crazy hyper loop thing. That is cool. The game was NOT level and leaned to the right which was super annoying...

EDIT: It currently ranks 33...

And AFM has dropped to #2! Oh no!

#6659 1 year ago
Quoted from pinnyheadhead:

Yeah. Never fully judge a game by playing it on location or at a show. Make some friends and play their games is a great way to go!
And AFM would go well along with your POTC. Just sayin

Believe me.. I know.

I've been meaning to contact Automated to see if they still have the couple LEs in stock as they claim on their website.

#6660 1 year ago

I spoke with Kayla (Automated) and she doesn't believe they have the Martian Green trim available.

Is it "truly" gone NIB?

#6662 1 year ago

Well I'll let you know...

#6664 1 year ago

I just spoke with Sara as well and she seemed incredibly knowledgeable. She said green is GONE. So I believe her.

So there goes that pipe dream...

#6665 1 year ago
Quoted from moonduckie78:

Sara at PPS told me I bought THE LAST black trim LE last week. As of Monday 4/15 she said all she had left was ONE AFMrLE with stainless trim. That was it.
I'd guess it's already gone.

Yep. They currently have pretty much 0 inventory period.

#6667 1 year ago

Secured one of the very remaining LEs in Black. I can live with this...

Automated saves the day again.

I seriously think they are the only ones left.

Act NOW or buy used!

#6671 1 year ago
Quoted from neverahighscore:

You got the best trim color-congrats!!!!

I appreciate that. Kinda wanted the Green, but Black definitely looks legit!

#6672 1 year ago

Anything to look for when I get this NIB?

Probably right..

Like, you should definitely mylar these areas that didn't come pre-mylared, etc ..

#6674 1 year ago

I'm good with that!

Pirates is a project and then some. It would be "nice" if this game didn't have to be.

#6675 1 year ago

I will say that I haven't heard anything but good things from CGC.

Very impressive...

#6679 1 year ago
Quoted from hollywood:

Forget the green, the black is killer!! Keeps it classy and not gawdy in a line-up.
The only things to spend your money on are the Cliffy’s, the plastic protectors and of course the Eat at Eddy’s mod from Mezelmods!!! Then simply enjoy!

Nice. I didn't know about that mod. That's cool. What are the plastic protectors for exactly? And I'll have to get on the Cliffy's thing...

Looking forward to it for sure.
Maybe I'll have it THIS Friday if I'm lucky!

#6682 1 year ago
Quoted from ausretrogamer:

I’m assuming the NIBs will have the new PIC2.0 chip, but just in case, open the back box and check - see photo.
[quoted image]

#6688 1 year ago

Wait what..

It’s recommended to lower default flipper machine on this particular game?

#6693 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Raise the pitch, lower the flipper power...whatever it takes lol
Yes, it's all about dialing in the game.
All games need to be dialed in to play perfectly.
You cant expect your location to have the same wall current as the test lab at the factory.
For me it takes about 50 games.

Yea good point...

Didn't even think about that...(The wall current that is)

#6694 1 year ago

You guys weren’t kidding..

MM is BARELY ahead by like .1 haha

Still awaiting my new shiny LE!

#6698 1 year ago
Quoted from flipper73:

Hi all,
when the scoop gives the ball back sometimes it goes sdtm. (1 out of 10 Times) is there anything i can do, how can I fix it? Or is it „normal“?

Probably not normal on any game.

#6704 1 year ago
Quoted from Fizz:

I have finally joined the AFMr owners club, and am very excited.
This has led to all of the following problems:
-Greatly increased level of shouting swear words.
-Fairly certain the game will give me a heart attack.
-Nonstop urge to press the start button.
Love it!

I get mine tomorrow!

I'm hoping for good things!!!

Just wanna make sure my flippers are tight and then hit the start button! Anything outside of the obvious that I should "absolutely" take a look at before hitting that start button?

#6707 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Thanks Lloyd !
Yes the scoop is attached to the R Popper circuit. So adjust that one.

Is it shaped like an "R"?

#6710 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

"R" meaning "Right" for the right pop-bumper. Its labelled that way in the CGC menu.

That makes sense...

#6712 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Read thru this thread.
Make sure Sol Pic 2.0 is on the driver board in the backbox.
Adjust flippers to -2, set pitch to 6.3 to 6.5 degrees. I have mine at 6.3.
Adjust LED emulation to have the lights flash the way you want them to.
Dial in the game from there.

Wow! Purposely lower flipper power. Is that a first? I assume not.
Why 6.3 and not 6.5? I know you have a reason.

Oh yea...the SOL 2.0 thing. I really hope it is. Is the game unplayable if it's not?

Thanks pinballinreno!

#6717 1 year ago
Quoted from Fizz:

Mine came with the SOL 2.0, so hopefully yours will as well.
Don't lower the flipper power if your game doesn't have it.

Interesting ... Okay

I'm guessing that the game doesn't play "weak" just by lowering the power/settings, etc..

#6721 1 year ago

I'll definitely start out with standard flipper power, but I'll quickly adjust it if I notice the air balls.

Also, not even going to try the stock balls. =) .. Not this time. I didn't have issues with the others, but i have better ones lying around.

#6729 1 year ago
Quoted from SeaLawyer:

Just bought #840 LE, NIB, black trim. Delivery next week.
Is anyone running one of these?
ebay.com link
Is it worth installing on a new playfield to keep it new?

I wouldn't do it if so. Game is going to play differently.

#6737 1 year ago

What exactly is this pic 2.0 and why was it needed in the first place?

#6739 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Pic 1.0 blew up the solenoid board if you made adjustments.
They released version 2.0 to fix it perfectly. It works better than 1.0
It was free from your distributor. PPS, or CGC.

OH WOW! ...

Yea...I don't want to forget to check this. It's going to be pretty damn disappointing if it's 1.0. I've been REALLY looking forward to playing this thing.

#6744 1 year ago

It’s literally two different surfaces entirely. How would it not play differently?

Go for it... =)

#6750 1 year ago
Quoted from Hop721:

Make sure to repeatedly try the super skill shot to ensure that the ball gets around that top loop consistently. I had to adjust my launch solenoid angle, as well as the shooter ramp and open a ticket for the orbit lane guide(?) replacement (which not all games needed, apparently). All relatively easy fixes and CGC was quick to respond with help and advice.

Welp, the game just arrived around 30 mins ago. Here soon I'll work on getting the legs on, leveled, all that fun stuff.

#6752 1 year ago

There's a technical thread for this game too, nice!

I'm not trying to "scare" myself with a bunch of stuff. Sorta learned that the hard way with JJP POTC, but this is good to know!

#6754 1 year ago
Quoted from Wildbill327:

Had a good game and RTU

[quoted image][quoted image]

Sorry... RTU???

Edit: Just kidding... I saw the pic! I still don't know what the hell that means... haha

#6755 1 year ago

Pirates is creeping up in that Top 100! ...

Almost 5th, 4th, etc..
I think it's fun to track this.

We already know this is the "best" game on depth alone...but yea.

#6763 1 year ago

I got it guys!

WOW! So much fun and you can FEEL that shaker motor.

I can't find this "SOL 2.0" thing...I looked for a bit, but to no avail.

Just need to plug in the topper -- what a sick looking topper!

#6765 1 year ago

Pretty sure that’s a no.
941EBFA3-956A-42B8-9173-06391F725CD6 (resized).jpeg

Edit: “1.0 or lower.” I may be okay. It looks like it’s later than 1.0, but don’t fully understand it.

#6768 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

Your game is okay. No label is good too. Only issue is if it has the label with 1.0 on it.
LTG : )

Oh! Awesome! =)

#6770 1 year ago

Topper isn't working ... =/

I turn the game on, the saucers light up. The Martian's eyes remain lit up and that's about it. I have everything plugged in correctly.
I went to the System Menu to test it and when it's Running it does nothing.

I'll poke around this thread and the technical one to see if anyone else ran into issues with this.

I'm so lucky...

Edit: Disregard.

I have to cut the pin on the PCB because that connector should be plugged in.

That makes perfect sense. Why didn't I think of that?
Any suggestions on what I should cut this pin with?

#6771 1 year ago

#6772 1 year ago

Well... took the blocker pin out, plugged it in.. and still nothing.

I just can't catch a break...

#6773 1 year ago

So anyway... From reading, it appears the PIC 2.0 actually fixed the topper issue for some so I guess that is my next best move.

Back to my other game.

#6780 1 year ago

To confirm, the topper is NOT working after plugging in the “INPUTS” cable as suggested.

I saw some use cases where upgrading to the PIC 2.0 can get the topper working so I reached out to my distributor about it as the topper not working is pretty disappointing...

Game plays great otherwise!

#6782 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

My topper is still in the wooden box. Its too high with it for my gameroom.

I suspect the topper itself is fine. I really hope it is so I'm betting on this PIC 2.0 thing fixing it.

That topper has to be one of the very best in pinball...

#6783 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Go to harbor freight.
Buy a collection of small hand tools.
Assorted small Needle nose pliers including the flat duck-bill one and the bent one. There is a 4 pack sometimes.
Small and large diagonal cutters.
Small Ratchet wrench kit with 6" or 8" handle. You only need 5/8" and 3/8" sockets for leg bolts and flipper pawls.
Assorted screw drivers etc.
Allen wrenches. The separate ones not the folding ones.
Some fine picks straight and bent.
Exacto knife with #11 blades or scalpel.
Tiny 4" channel lock pliers.
Tiny 4" crescent wrench
6" crescent wrench.
Flexable magnetic pickup tool.
Can of nylon ties.
30w soldering iron kit.
Pack of shrink tubing in assorted sizes.
Wire stripper.
This should get you started.

Folding allen wrenches are trash.

The magnetic pickup tool has already come in handy. That thing is a God send.

Ah hah - 30w soldering kit. I found a thread where vid1900 talked about this. I don't remember what that thread was. I have seen sodlering irons that are in the 60w.

Is "too much" wattage a bad thing? Does that just mean it gets hotter? I definitely need to pick one up, but I'm HOPING that I don't have to open it for a very long time!

#6785 1 year ago
Quoted from pintechev:

Too much heat is a bad thing. It’s not about wattage, it’s about heat and control. Get a digitally temperature controlled iron and be done.

Okay. Perfect.

#6792 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Looking at that vid, I remembered that you have to increase the subwoofer on the 1st screen to get good sound.

“Good” sound!?

I’m pretty sure that woofer rocks harder than my JJP POTC...

At least it feels like it!

#6793 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

Good for you.

Do you have it turned on in the CGC menu ? Page 1-10 in your manual or :
If yes then please go to - https://www.chicago-gaming.com/support/helpdesk and open a ticket on the support help desk.
LTG : )

I watched that video and didn’t see an “on.”

My screen matches that in the video however.

I can open a Support ticket and I already have tracking for the 2.0 SOL.

I’m HOPING that fixes it...

#6794 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Though the Hakko is a beautiful tool (i have one).
You wont be doing any pc-board level work, I dont think at least.
So for a beginner:
A general purpose 30 to 40 watt soldering iron is perfect for re-attaching any loose wires off of coils or connectors, or heating up a little shrink tubing.
Also does a good job on pc-boards if you are careful.
amazon.com link »
It has temperature control and has been a standard for hobbyists for many years.
Set it to 4 or so.
Its a good price
on the cheap side, pinrestore has a little 30 watt for $3.50, scroll down to find it.
I bought one on my last order and its a good little iron

Good stuff!

This should damn near be a key post despite having nothing to do with the game. lol

#6796 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

The video showed you how to get into the CGC menu. Every time you hit the Escape button, you go forward one screen until you go back to attract mode.
The last screen you can set the Martian Duration Off, or Light, or Full.
Hold launch button to test.
LTG : )
[quoted image]

Fair enough. I'm 99% sure it was "Full"
100% sure it was NOT "Off"

#6799 1 year ago
Quoted from moonduckie78:

I bought my LE from Planetary a few weeks ago, and Sara told me there was a good chance the topper wouldn't work if I didn't put the 2.0 PIC chip in.
But also, FYI, a few of the topper cables were labelled incorrectly, and needed to be plugged in to different spots than they indicated. I got it all figured out, but it wasn't so simple.

Makes sense based on what others were saying here.

I actually watched a video where the dude ran into the same issue I did and a lot of others where the pin wouldn't fit with the blocker...so he just ignored it. Fired on the game and Topper worked like a champ.

I was like ... sweet.

The thing is .. he had the 2.0 SOL so based on that and everyone else here that's why I'm hopeful.

Looking at tracking... it's still in pre-shiipment. =(

#6800 1 year ago

That's fun..

So the Lights, Inputs, and Motor are all 4 pin connectors (technically the Inputs is a 3 pin ...but plugs into a 4 pin).

That leaves 9 possible combinations...

#6801 1 year ago

Or is it 27 combinations? 3 cubed ...

#6804 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

They are all keyed, and face one direction. Unless you force them. One might have a plug in the connector that you need to remove or cut the pin.
So no possible combinations.
LTG : )

Okay then.

Yea...already did "that."

Let's hope the SOL adds new soul to the game!

#6806 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

You don't need it, but you'll put it in anyway. And the new one won't change anything unless you muck it up.
The one you pull out has a notch on one end, the board has a white outline around it with a notch where the notch on the IC goes, and the new IC has a notch. So be sure you get the notch and the IC facing the right direction.
That way all you can F up is bend the sh*t out of the legs.
LTG : )

I "need" it for the topper to work. At least, I'm pretty sure...

#6811 1 year ago
Quoted from homegameroom:

#806 landed in my driveway today! It s beautiful and plays pretty darn perfect out of the box. I absolutely love it!
I have the same issue as joseph5185 where the topper isn’t working. The eyes light up, but that’s about it. Mine also did not have the pin cut from the factory. The build date is December 28, 2017.
I can play it without the topper working- I’m too busy looking at the beautiful play field!!! Time to go save the universe!!
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

That's awesome!

Yea, I feel like my game is playing great as well. The VUK on the left side of the saucer failed the first time, but it fired the ball up the second time. Don't know if that's a big deal or not.

I think my game has the EXACT same build date. That's crazy! Yep, the saucers will spin around or w/e when you first fire on the game, but then it's just the martian's eyes and the white light in front of him.

#6812 1 year ago

Just a couple questions ..

I thought launching a ball “always” got it to the pop bumbers. No?

The left VUK sometimes can’t get the ball up on the 1st or 2nd attempt. Always works by the 3rd. Maybe just slightly increase the coil?

I swear I have drained on the left outlane twice WHILE the ball is coming down the wireform. I’m pretty sure that should “never” happen?

It’s GREAT otherwise! =)

#6817 1 year ago
Quoted from J-Freeze:

I f'n love you Lloyd

And here I was thinking I needed a MBr next! =P

#6821 1 year ago

I’ll bite...

What’s arguably the best Stern out there?

Is SW even in the running?

#6822 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

You do. If you promise not to work on it.
LTG : )

At least I care...or something.

#6826 1 year ago

As you may have noticed from my avatar, SW is kinda a thing.

#6827 1 year ago

What other game than SW has a wireform that literally loops around the entire pf?

#6830 1 year ago
Quoted from J-Freeze:

Haha, 4 seconds apart.
It's all subjective, I'm sure someone out there thinks south park is the GOAT.
Go play a dozen games on as many as you can find and see what you like.

Yea...I just wish most pins on-site weren’t trash.

POTC - Tortuga SDTM
SW - Horridly unleavel
WOZ - Balls kept getting stuck and pretty much ending the game.

And so on...

Edit: I own POTC CE so that’s a non-issue.

#6832 1 year ago
Quoted from hollywood:

Whoa. There is no contest and shouldn’t even be an argument.
LOTR is by far the best pin Stern has ever created.
I personally dislike Stern (downvote all you’d like), but that is the ONLY game I regret selling and am praying for the Vault edition...

No down vote here.

I played it on-site and actually thought it was great! Shooting the ball through the ring was pretty cool.

And then I look at the Top 100 and it’s sitting at #5.

I was like...hmm, I guess that explains why I liked it so much!

#6833 1 year ago

Saw the key post and associates linked .pdf on removing the shooter lane metal, bending, and reinstalling.

I have not yet tried this, but I wanted to point out that this was not initially a problem. It only started becoming a problem after so many games.

#6836 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

It's only if the skill shot cant be made.
Hold the left flipper when hitting launch.
The ball should go all the way around the orbit and be available to be hit with the left flipper.
If the ball does not make it around for the skill shot, adjustments in power or bending the guide come into play.
Generally lowering the autolaunch works well on this adj6stment.
If the balls continuously fly off the right wireform and drain.
Lower your playfield pitch slightly to 6.3 and lower the flipper power accordingly.

I held the left flipper and it did NOTHING.

There’s definitely an issue.

#6838 1 year ago
Quoted from f3honda4me:

You hold left flipper, then hit launch button while still holding left flipper, let go of left flipper once ball starts moving. Ball should go all the way around the top orbit and come down to your flippers and you should have red arrows lighting lanes to try and hit for super skill shot. If it doesn’t do that you’re probably doing it wrong. :p

I didn’t let go of the left flipper after launching the ball.

#6840 1 year ago
Quoted from homegameroom:

joseph5185 There is a document on the Chicago Gaming website on a method to correct this. Your machine and mine are close to the same build date (and mine has the same issue).
If you go to the section where you submitted your ticket you will see a “Support” button (or something like that). There is a document there on how to correct it. It’s pretty easy.

Yea. If that’s .pdf where you undo the metal assembly in the shooter lane, bend, replace, and test then I already saw it.

Just need to do it at some point soon.

#6842 1 year ago

Yea...it doesn't. Haha

I appreciate you showing me on a SIM. This is how I first played this game for the first time as well as many other classics.

I hold the left flipper down, hit start, and it can't even make it to the pop bumpers...most of the time.

It's probably that ramp bendy thing and I'll work on it...

#6844 1 year ago
Quoted from homegameroom:

Our pins are brothers from the same mother. Lowering the plunge setting to minimum worked well for me. Mine was flying up and occasionally hitting something (the wiring maybe?) and not going up to the pop bumpers or going around the orbit.
My Plan B would have been to loosen the screws that hold the stainless launch ramp a bit to (maybe) not make it literally a LAUNCH ramp. But lowering the plunger seemed to work.

Very nice!

That would be easier than taking out the metal launch ramp or whatever, bending, etc.

Still waiting on that 2.0 SOL before making adjustments though...

#6860 1 year ago
Quoted from jarozi:

Mine played great straight out of the box, it already had the SOL 2.0 chip and came with the color chip which is a must have upgrade IMO due to the enhanced / higher rez graphics as much as the color conversion. It's held up well, hasn't had any problems so far (~900 plays), I did have to turn down the flipper power to reduce air balls.
Since getting it I've installed shaker, external sub, upgraded backbox speakers, mirror blades, titan GITD rubber, brite caps on the pops and Pinstadium fusion, which really enhances the light shows.
Going to keep this one for a while, the game is just so much fun and so approachable to new players.

Color chip?

#6863 1 year ago

What is "CE"?

On a JJP, it means Collector's Edition.

It certainly doesn't mean that in this context as LE is the highest.

#6864 1 year ago

Core Edition?

#6866 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

Classic Edition.
LTG : )

So close!

#6868 1 year ago

I did get that ticket submitted for the replacement ball guide so now we wait.

#6871 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

I changed it from parts to technical and alerted it to CGC so they can look up if your game needs it or not, and then get you what you need to make things right.
LTG : )

Quoted from SeaLawyer:

Is there a production date range for machines that need it? I just got my NIB LE in, but haven't fired it up yet. CGC is sending me the PIC 2.0.

Mine is 12/28/17 I believe. You will know if you need it if you cannot perform the Super Skill shot (holding the left flipper, while launching/plunging the ball and having it go around the orbit and feed the left flipper) OR you can't consistency get the ball up to the pop bumper cluster.

It did not initially have the issue (though, I didn't try the Super Skill Shot because I didn't know that was a thing), so it's kinda interesting...

But, if you do have the issue, CGC has no issue with sending out a replacement ball guide immediately.

Good luck! =)

There are some games my ball seems to rattle or stall and not make the pops....is this what you’re talking about?

I opened a ticket with CGC and they promptly sent me out a new ball guide. I haven't received yet, but once I do, I'll install, test, and update.

Hey guys!

Happy to report that my new 2.0 PIC chip thing came in the mail today!

Won't get a chance to install with APA tonight, but hopefully tomorrow.
And I'll post a photo with my topper is fixed!

lower the power a little.

But, of course, make sure you have a 2.0 chip before you do.

The worst part is often getting the old one out. I'll look for my chip puller tonight...... even that can be difficult for the larger ICs.

It takes a good little tug to get out, but as long as you are lined up on just the SOL chip with the extractor don't be afraid.

Also, it's not that difficult honestly. Having built computers in the past. No need to disconnect everything, remove the board, etc. Simply line up the pins on the bottom first in a sort of diagonal rocking motion and once you are good there, you should be able to get the top pins in just as easily.

Quoted from homegameroom:

It's alive! Congratulations!!!!!!

Isn't that Monster Bash!? =P

Haha. Thanks!

So awesome... just waiting on that ball guide replacement and then I should be chillin!

#6898 1 year ago

Love the game..

I'll have the ball guide replacement tomorrow.

I noticed "something" is clicking every time I hit the saucer. Has anyone noticed this?
I'll have to take a look at the key posts when I have a bit more time.

#6904 1 year ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Could be a pop bumper set s little close or a sling reacting to the shaker motor.
Maybe some other switch set a little close.

I’ll try to run some diagnostics and figure it out.

Also, the right side of the glass/game has some noticeable vibration from the shaker.

Is this happening to anyone else specifically?

#6913 1 year ago

This game is pure FUN!

Played this for several hours today and my friends had a BLAST!

It is sucha good game!

The first time I can can Rule The Universe is going to be epic, but I'm just not quite there yet!

#6917 1 year ago
Quoted from ctviss:

I bought this per the recommendation of another Pinsider. I cut two strips the length of the glass in half, ~3/8", and wrapped it along the bottom/side of the glass where it sits in the channel. Zero rattle and the glass slides in and out easily. It takes slightly more work but it's a far better value than any "specialty" product.
amazon.com link »

Perfect! I’ll get this right away! I already tried to get something similar before, but I messed up.

What I ordered was double adhesive and the foam was in the middle.

Yea.. it makes perfect sense that any vibration could cause the glass to move if not snug. Didn’t really think of that.

The rattling wasn’t happening last night, but I think that’s just because the volume was a bit lower.

#6918 1 year ago

The ball replacement guide. Is that only needed if I can "never" make the pop bumpers/super skill shot?
I can sometimes...

I think since I Have the new chip I'm just going to lower the coil on the plunger first and see if that does it.

I MAY not actually need this.

Don't know yet!

#6920 1 year ago
Quoted from jarozi:

The ball, when launched from the shooter lane, should reach the pops or orbit around, if left button is held, 100% of the time.
I've put around 400 games on mine and it has never failed to do this.

So let me reduce the coil and see if I can achieve 100%.

#6922 1 year ago
Quoted from marspinball:

How do you stop side rail rattle? My AFMr right rail rattles like crazy at certain times while playing the game. It will stop if you put your hand on the right spot.

I asked the other day actually.

You could...turn down the shaker motor or reduce the volume...but that's not fun right?

Try getting some of this and applying underneath the glass. This will help better seal the glass and it won't have as much play to rattle:

Hey guys,

Wanted to mention this just once more to feel better about it.

The VUK struggles to get the ball up maybe 40-60% of the time. Has anyone else experienced this and was just a matter of increasing the coil strength OR is it possible that I have an imperfection with my VUK as far as the shaping or something.

#6928 1 year ago
Quoted from LTG:

Could be a few things, not always increasing coil strength.
LTG : )

Good enough.

I assume it’s a fairly common problem.

Would you say increasing coil strength is a good first step?

#6931 1 year ago
Quoted from Kawydud:

Been playing my new SE for a little while, only issue I have
been having is the ball is getting caught on the ball gate when
launching the ball instead of making it all the way around while
holding the left flipper during ball launch. Has anyone else had
the issue? I did a search on "ball gate" and didn't get any
results. It is almost like it isn't going up high enough.

I have the same issue. I have the replacment ball guide that CGC will send out to you if you open a Support ticket with them.
I'm going to reduce the coil strength on the plunger and see if it resolves first before I work on this replacement.

#6932 1 year ago

Hmm... come to think of it, my VUK was scratched up on arrival.

Didn't think much of it, but I wasn't happy about it.

I'll have some results soon after properly leveling and adjusting coil strength.

#6934 1 year ago
Quoted from PinballCoug:

I had this very same problem, increasing coil strength did not work, opened a ticket and was sent a video to gently realign the geometry. Easy fix and haven't had an issue since. Below is the link CGC sent, see if it works for you.

Good deal!

#6937 1 year ago
Quoted from tpir:

Thank you for this! Been having the same issue on my SE and it is the only thing preventing the table from being perfect

Please let us know if the suggestion makes it perfect for you.

#6938 1 year ago
Quoted from Kawydud:

not sure if it is the same problem you are having, my ball gate will actually pinch the ball and I have to remove the glass to get it unstuck. If it didn't get caught in the gate it would make it around just fine.

No, nothing like that. The ball never gets stuck.

#6949 1 year ago

So...here are my leveling efforts ..

It looks "good" and the ball isn't rolling. I REALLY like this test to determine if the playfield is level...after all it's the ball that's rolling in the first place.

Here's my only...quirks with this. I used this digital level and zero'd it, put in the playfield and it reads 6.5. Perfect! Sorta! When I put the level back down it's always reading 0.2 and I tried this multiple times.

This would suggest 6.7 actually and if you look at the bubble on the machine, it's a touch higher than that second line which if it actually has any accuracy, could mean it is in fact 6.7.

Idk... It's "close" or w/e and the playfield being level just seems more important.

Thoughts/Comments on my first efforts?

I have a couple other things to do before I’m playing this again, but I’ll definitely give it some plays and see how it feels.

#6965 1 year ago

Alright so an update from me ..

I turned the flippers down to -2 and it does seem to help with the air balls. I was hoping this would prevent that clicking/switching noise I'm hearing when I hit the saucer because the idea was it would be hitting it with less velocity. Nope... that's still happening. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

I couldn't find where to reduce the plunger/launcher power? I see the Auto-launch power set to default, but couldn't find the other. I think it is launching too hard because I sorta paid attention and it seemed like every time the ball would get saved it could make it to the pop bumpers just fine.

#6967 1 year ago
Quoted from dugmar:

I searched but not finding answers. When shooting the light lock shot the ball consistently flies out of the wireform and either lands in the shooter lane or right outlane. Anyone else experience this issue?

Yep. You have to adjust that wireform slightly and test.

It’s actually pretty comical considering it should never happen.

#6970 1 year ago
Quoted from f3honda4me:

As was stated previously it’s the drop target resetting. Totally normal.

It's "normal."

100% ? for the something to click or a switch to trigger or something when the ship is hit?

What do you mean by the drop target resetting exactly? The drop targets stay down when the ship is hit until it's destroyed..

Also, I noticed my red targets in front of the ship are a bit crooked and the ones one site where pretty straight. Just be a pretty easy fix.

I still need to figure out how to turn down the Launcher.

#6971 1 year ago

Alright so disregard the clicking .. I get it. It's normal. It's whatever. I don't care. I'm just glad it's a non-issue.

Okay so I figured out that the Auto Plunger is basically the plunger. It looks like I have "Default", "Min", "Max", and "+1" as available options.
Well...I turned it down to "Min" and yea it's get to the pop bumpers ... but I can't get the super skill shot by holding the left flipper down when I plunge and have the ball orbit around.

So I guess I have to do that replacement from CGC after all.

Getting closer to getting her dialed in... =)

Edit: Feel silly about that "noise." It's literally the drop target popping back up which I didn't even notice before. smh

#6973 1 year ago

Wow.. I'm just seeing this despite actually liking the original post.

So this tape rides inside the same groove where the glass would go all the way up? ..

I DEF have to try this!

I think this actually totally fixed it.

I was like "sure I'll bend this little piece of metal..." and then the VUK was successful on the first time 8/8 times... Like, I don't understand how 10 seconds of work and the SLIGHTEST little bend COMPLETELY fixes it.. it's like witchcraft!

1) Replace Ball Guide
2) Align Red drop targets in front of saucer
3) Install tilt bob (yea...I haven't done this yet....)
4) Clean and Wax

5) PLAY !!!

Replacement is on the right..

#6990 11 months ago

Hey guys ... Update!

The ball replacement guide from CGC has completely solved the issue. Every single time, the ball is able to make it up to the pop bumpers now.

However... holding the left flipper down does not always guarantee the ball is able to orbit around to the left flipper. Might this suggest a separate issue or is it that you cannot always successfully get an opportunity at the super skill shot?

#6993 11 months ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

Mine is 100%
Adjust flipper power.

Wait are you saying increasing the left flipper power can somehow alter the ball having the ability to orbit .. as if holding the flipper down is doing something at the top of the playfield?

#6997 11 months ago
Quoted from moonduckie78:

I've noticed if I hold the left flipper and then hit plunge too quickly, it sometimes doesn't do the full orbit. This even happens when I play digital AFM on Pinball Arcade. So I don't think it's a physical or mechanical issue. Just make sure you hold down left flipper for A FULL SECOND before you hit that plunge button.

It’s working much, much better than it has and I think it’s almost expected so I’m not all too concerned about it.

#6998 11 months ago

So what kind of Titan rubbers are you dressing the flippers with?

Pictures please!!

#7001 11 months ago
Quoted from Hop721:

I found that, on mine, I had to adjust the Launch plunger angle (in relation to the ball). Take the apron off and check the angle. Think of it in relation to a pool cue hitting the ball. Mine was lined up to hit the ball on top and a little right. You want it square in the center. I actually had to shim under the back of the plunger solenoid to get it right. Made a huge difference. Between that, the guide replacement and the launch ramp angle adjustment, I haven’t had a failed orbit launch in a couple of hundred games.

Yea. I could still do that bend as well.

Quoted from BMore-Pinball:

Joining the LE club on Sat
Without reading 7,000 posts, can anyone give me some bullet points to check out to make sure games is up to date with code, fixes, etc...

For starters, if you find your topper doesn't work, you most likely do not have the upgraded SOL PIC 2.0 chip that plugs into the top box. You will need to contact your distributor so they can send that out to you free of charge.

You may have some issues where the ball cannot successfully perform the Super Skill Shot consistently or does not seem to make it's way up to the pop bumpers at which case you can contact CGC directly and they can send you out a ball replacement guide.

#7013 11 months ago
Quoted from Only_Pinball:

Mine was too till I moved it a bit off center to the left.

Yep. The right adjustment/alignment will correct this issue. Have played 100s of balls without additional outlane drains.

I still thought it was comical when it happened.

#7014 11 months ago

Do a lot of people really do the playfield protectors on this game?

This is only my second game that I own and I haven’t been bothered by this.

I guess what I’m getting at is that I haven’t installed playfield protectors before. Though I’m sure I have already tackled more mechanical challenged related tasks.

#7016 11 months ago
Quoted from f3honda4me:

No way. PF protectors suck. Don’t ever use one. I know a handful like to but vast majority do not.

#7018 11 months ago
Quoted from SeaLawyer:

I put one on mine since it was NIB. Contrary to honda’s point, it most definitely does not suck. It plays very similar to a playfield with a mirror-finish clear coat. It’s very fast, and very awesome. I figured I’d try it, since I could always remove it. I won’t be removing it until it’s time to replace it. I like keeping the brand new playfield brand new. Installation wasn’t terrible. Took around an hour.

So I don’t think we are talking about the same things honestly

The link from a couple posts back was referencing the plastic pieces that go over slings and such.

#7022 11 months ago
Quoted from pinballinreno:

I agree with this.
They are difficult to polish out once roughed up a bit.
Wax doesn't stick to them at all.

Ah. My fault! “Plastic” protectors...

Do most install these?

#7065 11 months ago
Quoted from Kredmore:

Posting an update to the ball launch issues in case it helps others.
For the ball launch not making it to the top or all the way around, I went through it all - read all the posts, CGC tickets, ball guide updates, ramp bending, launch strength, launch angle, etc. and the overall launch was much better. It would make it to the top almost all the time, and all the way around about 8-9 out of 10 times. However, I noticed that ball would still sometimes hit the upper wire frame (slow motion camera), and of course this can be raised up slightly, but not enough to always clear it.
So, this is pretty much how it is on all games as far as I can tell. The launch ramp angle usually just barely clears the upper wireframe. Launch strength can be decreased too. However, the only way I see to keep the ball from flying too high at default launch strength all the time, is to lower the ramp slope angle to ensure the ball rolls along at the surface and doesn't fly up any higher. This was accomplished by bending the ramp at a lower point (closer to the start) just slightly so the slope is more gradual. Now it works perfectly, with slow motion camera verifying.

Very, very nice.

Yea it just doesn’t happen consistently enough to bother me anymore. I think the CGC ball replacement guide likely makes the most difference?

Could you share with us the before and after slow motion videos?

#7076 11 months ago

Four comments:

1) I just realized that this game has mirror blades and it looks REALLY good. Now compelled to add to my POTC.

2) I can light “Video Mode” never, ever. It just doesn’t happen. I have played around 500 games and don’t recall it happening once.

3) The ball is struggling...a bit to successfully get up to the pops so I may bend the metal a touch or whatever during the next waxing and continue to address.

4) Sometimes when playing pinball things just don’t go your way. I played for around an hour or so last night and I COULD NOT for the life of me destroy just two countries. So disheartening.

#7079 11 months ago
Quoted from Fizz:

Well, technically, you are SAVING the countries.
But I know what you mean. That saucer is harder to hit than it would seem. Especially from the right flipper. I was starting to wonder if it was just my game.

I started to wonder as well...

I’m sure it’s just me lol

I never tire of it.
Basically you never know if you will RTU or be kicked in the nuts...

Haha!! I haven't successfully saved 3 countries ONCE yet in my hundreds of plays.
And I thought I was "good" at pinball...

I do LOVE it though!

And I guess I have to get the Super Jets to 0 before Video Mode is actually possible? I did NOT know that, but happy to hear it.

I grinded for a couple hours last night. You're right. Some games you can't save one country much less RTU. What's sadder is once I complete "my goal" of saving 3 countries... that's only like half way there.

Hey guys/gals,

Happy New Year!

The holes where the flippers align should NOT be visible correct?

Currently, I can see them when playing and I feel like that wasn’t always the case.

I didn’t make any adjustments to the flippers when the machine arrived or ever so maybe they are just a touch loose?

#8034 4 months ago
Quoted from Mr_Tantrum:

I also don't like when my bats are not symmetrically aligned. What I mean by this is after you use your preferred method of alignment then hold both bats by hand into their highest position. The tips of the bats should reach the same position up the playfield (i.e. one doesn't extend higher than the other), and you can even put a straight edge across the tips to check that they are level. Not sure if this is "proper" or if some games are designed to have asymmetrical positioning, but just the way I like to do it.

I appreciate the very in-depth response and I couldn't agree with you more.

The flippers on my Black Pearl ship on JJP POTC were not symmetrically aligned and it drove me ABSOLUTELY. CRAZY.
ltg can attest to this. =D
