That is really awesome, can you post the 2 pictures you used?

Those ARE awesome, I'd also like a copy of pics if possible.

Thanks!

PM me if you want to see if we can have them shipped to my house and then I can ship to you. Or I go to Windsor Casino now and then - I can possibly take there and ship from a post office there.

Hopefully, some good news today.

That is an awesome offer, thanks!!! I ended up setting up a myUS.com account, but thanks again for the generous offer, very cool.

why such a bashing or are realy so much AFM delivered with problems and chipping play fields?

may be we should start a poll?

This game glares more than average. I put PDI on all my games but this one may benefit the most I think. Something to consider for anyone out there with a mix of PDI sheets and regular sheets, def put a PDI on your AFMr imo.

I found the stock lighting too bright and turned the PF and GI down to make it less intense.

He made several good points....the bottom line is CGC has really dropped the ball on warranty issues....if they put out shitty play fields that fail or are delivered in bad shape due to their lack of QA/QC then they should replace....period...chipping in critical areas definitely warrants protectors, and in my opinion they should at their cost provide Cliffy protectors to address that concern. The fact that they are blowing off these customers is total BS, and I suspect this poor business decision will really effect future sales....if you want to claim you build the best machines than you should stand behind your work....even Stern replaced 100's of GB play fields due to ghosting, and JJP now ships games with Cliffy protectors already installed (due to chipping of DI)....many are waiting to see if CGC steps up to the plate....

I guessing Stern passed this cost on to the manufacturer which is CGC...Unfortunately for CGC, they have no one to pass the cost on to since they are the manufacture. IMO this is a failure of management for allowing sub-standard parts to go out the door.

I wasn't aware of that.....the bottom line is they marketed their "great" warranty as a selling point, and their not standing by it....unless they step up to the plate I'll never buy another product from them (and I own both LE remakes)....I laughed at their "purist" remark for not installing protectors.....why can't they just say they don't want to add $50 to their BOM....

Finally got around to putting my red titans on my flippers/bumpers, man do I love these things...feels so much better. My first game after them I managed 3 super jackpots in one MB, never even got more than one before. Ended up collecting one more in a later MB for 4 total SJs. I'm at 244 plays on mine, everything on it besides the titans is factory. LE#533

I've also noticed that I'm no longer getting rejects from the orbits...anyone else still getting those? I wonder if that behavior was just typical for a NIB AFM until it has been broken in a bit.

I think they indirectly answered that the first time around with MMR when they didn't include the coin mechs.

Nice looking game, nice looking playfield. They can make a really nice play field no question about it! It's too bad everyone didn't get one like yours.

Too soon to call it... If the game has been lightly played, and flippers are set to a lower strength, it will take longer for the chipping to show up. Doug said it with his own words: "Every game is going to have the chipping issue. Install Cliffys."

So it's not a matter of how nice it looks now, it's how nice it might not look tomorrow.

It would be great if everyone who had a playfield issue post an update so we can all know how CGC handled it. For example, the putty and black shooter lane, which by the way, was also misrepresented as having been caused by chipping somehow in that podcast link above.

If anyone still has a chipping issue that has not been handled by CGC, can we can a picture of the whole playfield and an update please?

Is that putty, or is it a knot? Unclear what it is, to be honest.

#4133 3 years ago

Looked like putty to me....never should have left the factory....

#4134 3 years ago

Just a quick reply to show the other side of the fence. My AFMrLe has 400+plays on it now and aside from a few dimples that I can only see with just the right light with my face down towards the playing field, no chipping and everything is perfect. I ordered a set of Cliffys when I bought it, although due to the backorder, I haven't put them on. To tell you the truth, even if I had them, I don't think I would install them. My game doesn't seem to have a problem. It is one of the last 100 LE produced, so maybe all the issues have been resolved by now...

I suspect you wouldn't feel that way if u had a play field that had wood putty in the shooter lane....this could all have been avoided if CGC did the right thing...unfortunately the longer they wait the worse it will get for them....they could have turned a negative into a real positive, but instead they drew a line in the sand, which was a really bad business decision....

#4142 3 years ago

In fairness though, do we know the result of the shooter lane putty incident? Did the owner contact CGC and get an answer?

It is sad, because we are discussing a really great machine. I think most of the issues were easily fixed, but they don’t go away because of other issues. The plastics, the flipper issue, the ball launch issue; all of those resolved pretty quickly, and with pretty minor inconvenience to the owners.

The clear chipping is a polarizing issue. I bought an ac/dc in 2013. Every post I read said that I had to install a full cliffy set before playing it, or the playfield would be destroyed. I did it. It was a pain in the ass, but it protected all of the holes in the game. Now the same exact recommendation is being given for afmr. After installing them on ac/dc, I will wait to see if I need them on this one. Whether it is chipping or wear, I think they all need to be protected. With enough complaining, the manufacturers might do it someday, but there are probably plenty of ops buying pins who just aren’t as picky as we are to make that not a necessity. I paid over $600 in sales tax on this pin. The price of cliffys aren’t really the deciding factor for me here.

The only unaddressed issues, as far as I can tell, are the screening mistakes, and the questionable qc on the blanks. I have only seen a couple of people post that their playfield were screened with the wrong colors. I think these were a mistake that should be replaced. At the same time, if mine had that I could probably live with it if I had to.

This is only my opinion, but the only absolute show stopper here is the putty filled shooter lane. Whoever let that through needs to be fired, and that playfield replaced. That one, I don’t even have to think about. If I don’t have a guarantee that won’t happen, I am not a future customer. There is no wiggle room there at all. I would return a $20 item that looked like that.

The Metallica thread has stayed mostly positive for years, even though there have been a lot of issues with that game. This game is good enough to get there, And I think it will. But, probably not if these last two issues are ignored.

I'm pretty sure in the post contact was made and the response was "that's the way it is", but I should probably go back and look it up to make sure I'm not confusing it with the nude color playfield mistake.

I’m with you. It’s a great package. Solid build and real upgrades over the original. CGC set out to build a collector quality product and for the most part they did. Like all suppliers, they have had some QC issues and have addressed them.

But it appears they’ve made a few judgement calls on isolated games that have caused more damage and noise than they should have. They need to back themselves and prove they are the best. Not downplay these isolated incidents as if they’ve got something to hide.

Look at Apple. In my experience their repair/replacement policy is the “gold standard”. Companies like CGC, that are positioning themselves as the Apple of Pinball need to follow suit.

Other than that, it’s a great remake and improvement on one of the great games of pinball.

I think this is the last we’ve heard.

I am opening a ticket with CGC but I thought I’d check with other owners too to see if anybody else had that this issue. Not sure if I’ll bother updating anybody since BitPatrol accused me of being a troll.

what were you right about? Hopefully CGC replaced that play field ....

#4150 3 years ago
Quoted from PtownPin:

About the shooter lane showing wear after 90 games. He showed a picture of his game at 90 games and then showed a picture of the mangled shooter lane and tried to make it sounds like that would happen to someone else's game after some wear, or the 2 were correlated somehow. I just called B.S. on that part for any potential buyers who were reading.

Once it was established that his story was not ringing true, the conversation moved to whether that playfield should have left CGC, and most if not all agree he needs a new palyfield, and if he does/did not, it would be a concern to many of us, not because the game would look like puke after some 90 games as that clearly did not happen, but because CGC has lowered the bar so low on what is acceptable as quality. Maybe CGC took care of him, and now there would be a total of zero issues not dealt with by CGC.
