I bought a well used Attack From Mars machine a few years back. I've managed to fix most of the issues and amateur repairs but there is one that still has me stumped. The strobe light during Strobe Multiball doesn't function. It tests fine in test mode but never works during game play. I can't seem to trace the problem. Any ideas? Attack from Mars

Does the playfield go dark when Strobe multiball starts?

Strobe multiball should not start if shut off in adjustments, but maybe check to see if it off. A2. 23 I think.

The playfield does go dark. I double checked the settings and it's not disabled. During the test the strobe rate is inconsistent and seems to slow down the longer it goes. A previous owner swapped the strobe for a HomePin strobe kit.

Does the strobe light fire when you hit the ship? There is a troubleshooting procedure for the strobe and it's respective board. There were two strobe boards. One with two caps and one with four. The two cap board was a problem. Pull the cover off your strobe box (behind the back panel) check to see what board you have. It sounds like you have an issue with the caps or a bad connection with one of the connectors. I just bought an AFM a few weeks ago that the strobe did not fire at all. I did have the four cap board. What I found was really odd. The plug for the strobe bulb assembly (under the ship) was disconnected. The best I can figure is that somebody (not the owner I bought from) unplugged it to defeat it instead of turning it off in adjustments.
