a friend bought an Attack From Mars for his hotel. The machine is taking unusually long to boot up. and then when you hit start no ball is being lifted into the launch lane. the machine also is not cycling through. any tech guys have any ideas?

Start at the begining. When it boots up, does it give an audible "bong" sound? When he tries to start the game, is the coin door closed? The vuks and flippers wont' work with the coin door open as a safety feature. Also, not sure on AFM but some games are designed to not work at all when the correct number of balls are not inserted. Not sure on AFM.
Good luck!
flippers not working at all. this occurred before we even opened the coin door..... ie... this was regular play. another friend thinks perhaps optical sensor in ball launch. i'll be frank here. hotel operator is first time owner, probably did not understand what ownership entailed. i'd fix them myself if i had the knowledge but i have been universally recognized by the UN international body on dunces as being a pure idiot.
