Just joined the club! I got a very nice restored gem. My question is it has the bill ung saucer mod, how hard is it to remove them with breaking them to paint my saucers? Anybody do this yet? Any advice appreciated.[quoted image]

They should just pop out from under the saucers. Bit tedious to get back in, bit not the end of the world. Go for it!

Quoted from LTG:

F106 is the 18 volt lamp matrix. You might try pulling J121 and J125 too.
LTG : )

Pulled 125 and got the same result. 121 isn't attached in the first place. Found the pins for 121, but no corresponding connector.

Im looking for the mothership Led board in green. My soldering skills are not the best so I need one done up. Any Idea where to find one?

For those who haven’t seen the Tilt Graphics AFM apron here it is installed. One of the best mods I’ve ever bought

Is this a decal or magnet apron? It does look great!

Quoted from shovelhed:

It’s actually a replacement apron that has a decal on it. No slots cut out for the instruction cards or embossed lettering so the decal sits on it smooth

Heres a pic of my topper, its still a work in progress.

Have you tried a GozMod? It’s red and green. Not sure if still readily available though....

#559 4 years ago

I picked up a green Led Mothership board. I personally think this is how it should have came from the Factory. Gozmod is very cool though. It was option #2 for me. Thanks for the link.

#560 4 years ago

Gozmods are still available. I just purchased one a few weeks ago.

Anyone looking for side art decals for their AFM backbox (on the cheap if you have a main cabinet decal to trade), I have a pair of left and right head panels in both matte finish (gen 2) and glossy finish (gen 2+) for sale or I will trade for a single right side main cabinet gen 2+ decal in glossy finish. Listed in the marketplace...

Not to rain on your parade but it’s Attack From Mars not Attack From the Moon. Wouldn’t it be better to use something like this?

Yeah, if they had made a mars invaders, I would have chosen mars. This looks cool and outerspacey and reacts to blacklight. Works for me it's from a game about Invaders from space, that's close enough for me.

And that's all that matters it's your game you have to be happy with it Good luck mate

VERY nice lineup!

#573 4 years ago

Hi!

First post in this club. I am starting a restore on my AFM. I have had it for 12 years and have never wanted to let it out of the lineup but it has started to wear down and some DMD issues are starting so I will have to rebuild the A/V board so thought what the heck ....I have had the stuff to do this accumulated for years.

Anyway, I have found a few head scratchers in the cab wiring that I thought I would work through while I'm working on the cabinet. Because I am looking at the power blades I noticed that my DBV connectors have been modified to hardwire in a non-factory connector. I am hoping one of you who have a USA game can post a few pictures of the original harness from the voltage jumper plug to the DBV plug. What I need is what the connector looks like and some physical pictures to match up with the schematic which I have.

Thanks for any help, I have included a pic of the current wiring which is electrical taped to the coin door. No hurry, I have a lot to do before I bring the game inside to work on this and the boards. But thought I would start the questions.

Also included a pic of the fade that started the motivation for restore. Although the playfield is worse but shoots really well.

Kenny

Hi new owner here in the UK. Has anyone got a list of bulbs required for inserts bulb type and colour. I want to swap out the incandescent bulbs for Comet LED's.

Thanks

Thanks Manny65

Those pictures are perfect. It now makes sense with the coin door 3 pin connector being the coin pulse.

Interesting that a USA game made it to Australia with the shipping. Where are most of the games in your collection from?

You game is much earlier in the run from the date. I find the serial number and date info interesting so here is mine. Although I take it with a grain of salt since my MB is actually a lower number than both of ours. Yours appears to be about 1800 games earlier.

Thanks again,

Kenny

No probs Kenny - happy to help out

Working off the date and serial number, that's 1800 machines that rolled off the production line in 7 weeks or 53 machines a day (5 day working week) - would have loved to have seen that in it's day. Took a quick look at my MB it has a Mfg Date of 17th Dec 1998 and Serial # 51365403152 - yours?

Majority of my games are Australian delivered, although we do and have seen a lot of pins being imported from Europe and the US in more recent years. I bought the AFM off Pinside a few years back and imported it myself, as they are hard to come by over here and therefore pretty pricey - now with AFMr (and equally MMr and MBr) the demand has more normalised for these machines but I still prefer my originals (all time classics).

Cheers
Brett

I'm hoping someone can help me with the left/lobster ramp. Doing a playfield swap and this is what I have to work with. The clear shield I assume is original or a home grown version of one. But what I'm trying to confirm is metal bracket that seems vertical. I already have the new switch holder that is wrong, but what else am I missing? Does anyone have any pics they could share of this ramp in this area up close?

Trying to get this game to to original as much as possible. This is the thread of the tear down I'm doing: https://pinside.com/pinball/forum/topic/attilla-from-mars-another-afm-playfield-swap#post-5105079

Sorry I don't have time to take off the glass, running out the door. Yours looks to have a homemade metal piece alongside the ramp, and a homemade curvy piece holding the switch.

Awesome and thank you both. I did some searching online but wasn't coming up with anything for ramp specifics. This is a huge help and can put the ramp back together with the new/cleaned up parts now.

#583 4 years ago

At least Marco has new pieces, instead of trying to straighten out that bent up original switch bracket.

Yes! It would look like crap bent back. I already have the new one here as I knew that wasn’t right. Even Cliffy has the new ramp supports. That was a big help since all three but the larger one for the cow ramp was busted.

Here’s the unsoldered but complete ramp short of the new clear plastic. EDIT: And have the left rear flasher bracket off while paint is drying...

Thanks everyone!

Date is 10/5/1998 and serial 50265401335 so not much connection between the MB serial numbers. Mine is German though so they may get different ranges.

Very happy to be part of this club as of yesterday. I managed to score a very nice AFM with clearcoated playfield, new decals, and mirror blades. I was wondering if any of you have added additional mylar protection at the scoop eject or at the inlane/ habitrail drop sites. I'd hate to mess up this playfield in my constant tries to rule the universe!

It's close. The only two things are ghosting in the lower 6 objective inserts, and some minor cracks in the return to battle insert. Luckily the clear above it is beautifully smooth.

I am trying to find a way to hook an extra led light strip (12v) to the strobe light mech/board - as I want to trigger the light only during strobe MB. Does anyone have a suggestion on what I could do? Does the strobe light board take a constant 12v? Would be ideal

Thanks! My GF kicked my ass all night, she loves this pin.

It was a sweet buy. Besides the chrome and refinished cab/art. The PF is a touch up w/clear, thick and hard. (insert smiley here). Mods: colordmd, the 6x UFO LED kit, aliens with LED eyes, blade art, Pinball Pro speakers and sub etc...

GlowITD Titan rubbers are ordered and I will have to see what else is worth while. I do like the Eddy building as an option...
