Was fortunate to find a low play 36K Atlantis last week. It needed some definite cleaning and refurbishing tore down the playfield without taking any pictures, because I already have one. Putting it back together I noticed that the post and rubber configuration on the target bank was different. Assuming the one I’m working on with low plays would be original and the other machine being a restoration done by the local pinball pro was modified. It looks like a great and simple modification Can’t think of a reason why I wouldn’t do it to the new machine.

It is my thought that the two bands or stiffer support behind the target would keep them from wearing or braking.

Great conversation, I forgot the point of having a second rubber to keep the ball from getting stuck and eliminating service calls. Also the point of 36,000 games and still in good shape I actually have never seen a target break on any of my machines. Another issue could be with only one rubber and more flexibility in the back it may be easier to get two targets down at a time for the 5000 point award. I have found that the targets are easier to replace with a typewriter Spring hook found on Amazon.
With a post configuration I can still go back to the one rubber and see if I score more double targets, I’m still working bugs out of this machine and will need to play more games on this machine. Thank you again for your advice great discussion.
