Hey, everyone…new to the pinball scene. Never owned one and never played much as a kid (I’m 47…not too young and not too old!). I always thought they were super-cool! Just acquired a 1978 Atari Middle Earth PB for $50. It seems in my reading that Atari gets a pretty bad rap in the PB world and $50 may have been money down the drain…but it was worth a shot to have new hobby to tinker with. The art and playing field seems to be in really good condition. It works (for the most part) but the score display to the lower left is not lighting up. The credit/player number to the right lights up but doesn’t usually correspond correctly. I’m looking to make a new ribbon cable to connect the main board to the score/player board. The one that is currently on it is suspect at best. Any help would be appreciated…ie what ribbon size/pin count to use, what female connectors to use, etc. Thanks!

I know a little about these.

No cables are known to exist.. ild clean the edge connectors off both boards and check the caps on the display board under the apron.

trueno92 I cleaned the connection points good (with alcohol). Maybe I should use an eraser as many people I’ve read do. I have a local old-school electronics store that has pretty much everything that I would need to make my own cable. I guess the best option is to take my cable in and see if they can make me one. Thanks.

What i have seen used in the arcade world was to take both the edge connectors on the boards and add solder to the pads so they can reach the connectors in the cable.

I am sure there are a few atari games out there that are missing stuff that someone can donate out a cable for you as well - this place can be nice sometimes when you get past the constant whine of the man-children always wetting their diapers...

Were you able to figure out how to make the ribbon cable? I think I may need to upgrade mine and it's kind of tough figuring it out.
