As a tribute to Lyman I am playing at least one game today on every one of his masterpieces that I own:

    Medieval Madness
    Revenge From Mars
    Batman 66
    Elvira’s House of Horrors

with a nod of appreciation to Monster Bash (gone) and glimmer of possibility for Cactus Canyon Remake (perhaps still to come?)

I hope you will join me and share thoughts of his games of that bring you joy.

What did you play? What do you like best about the code?

    #2 2 years ago

I like Medieval Madness because I fell in love with the theme and humor when I first learned about the game and knew I had to find a way to get one back when selling to homeowners wasn’t a thing. It was a simple game to understand but it took me a long time to complete Royal Madness. It is the game that got me into collecting.

Batman 66 is special because it was my holy grail theme. Lyman completely reworked the game and turned it into what is simply the most complete game of the LCD era. Brilliant modes and concepts (changing channels on the TV!), incredible use of assets, terrific variety of gameplay perfectly integrated with the theme and his trademark rich and deep code.

Not yet will play tonight after work

I fired up some AC/DC this morning. One of his greatest games, because there’s no one way to play it….you can just rock out to your favorite song, or you can try to advance through as many songs as you can, or you can get really into deep scoring nuance. It’s fun for anyone at any level with any taste. His games are all like that to some extent - anyone coming from any gameplay angle can find something to love.

I plan on firing up BM66, cracking open a beer, and making a toast to the memory of my favorite pinball programmer. He brought life and magic to the pins he worked on, and brought me (and I'm sure many, many others) countless hours of enjoyment. I'll then shed some tears as I'm playing, that I'm sure of. Rest in Peace Lyman, and thank you.

Just rocked on my TWD, I can't believe this fucking day. I want to go back to sleep and wake up to a re-do of this day with these terrible events.

    #7 2 years ago

BM66......its just so damn good. I had zero interest in this game until I played it on location and couldn't stop pumping quarters in.

Gonna be a Metallica afternoon here

Played some Lyman’s Lament on MB (original). His callouts matched my level of play.

Such a neat feature to add in a game.

And such a huge loss for the pinball world.

    #11 2 years ago

Just stepped away from playing my LFS legendary software monster.
    Perfection.
    Thank You Lyman

I always have enjoyed seeing his codes transform over time and seeing the improvements on each update. Best game ever made is a easy answer, BATMAN 66 all day. So many ways of approaching the game and strategies. It's hard not to love all his games and I could blabble on all day about his games and how great they are.He will be missed.

What I'll always remember about Lyman is his dedication to Batman '66. The guy didn't sleep for a very, very long time until it was PERFECT! Rarely do we see this dedication.

I'll also never forget this spot. It was the first time I learned that Pinball wasn't luck, that one could actually get good enough to prevent drains, control the ball and do what they'd like with it to master a game. RIP

Bryant Gumble is such a dick in that video. I love how cool Lyman is. What a legend.

    #15 2 years ago

TWD is the Lyman game I own. Will play it as much as I can today. RIP to a legend.

    #16 2 years ago

I am playing only Lyman pins in my collection all weekend...

    #17 2 years ago

I just played my Mando LE in a Lyman Sheats wide stance and had one of my best games on it. I can see why he got low like that, to easier line up a shot from the playfield level.

    #18 2 years ago

Just got our Batman Batman 66 last week but has quickly become one of my favorites

    #19 2 years ago

Absolutely playing my Lyman games tonight, especially Metallica LE. Unfortunately, I'd already committed to sell it this weekend. Now I have more of an emotional attachment and wish I could keep it a bit longer, but I don't want to renege on the deal.

My plan for years has been to reach End of the Line (Metallica wizard mode) before selling it. I got as close as having the scoop lit to start it once, but never quite cashed in. Maybe tonight's the night. Might just play it until I pass out.

    #20 2 years ago

Looking forward to some location play this weekend.

    Quoted from Elicash:

Bryant Gumble is such a dick in that video. I love how cool Lyman is. What a legend.

Lyman: "I can select a mission on the playfield. I can select which one I want..."

Bryant: "Let's move down to the next machine."

No class. Meanwhile Lyman is a total pro.

I will certainly play my Metallica this weekend! I need to fix the trunk on Elvira... I should go do that now!

I vacuumed five pool tables in his honor.

    Okay I'm dull.

But I've been thinking of him for the last four hours.

    Damn I'll miss him.

    LTG : )

    #23 2 years ago

Played a bunch of his stuff at league yesterday, but will definitely be jamming on my TWD tonight.

    RIP Lyman.

    #24 2 years ago

Going to play some of my favorite Lyman game tonight and shed a tear everytime he shoots a walker in prison multiball.

    Only playing these this weekend...

    Me too

    Update:

Just played those Lyman’s code pins this morning.

AMF two shots aways to start “Rule The Univers”.

Iron Man one shot aways to start “The Jericho” and “Do or Die Hurry up”.

Tron three shots aways to start “Portal Multiball”.

Monster Bash one shot aways to start “Monsters Rock”.

In this pinball world almost doesn’t count . His coded pins always give me one more ball that kind a feeling.

    Thank you Lyman

Thank you Lyman for creating these incredible memories for the world to capture

Said I’d be playing. Second game and got to what might be Lyman’s Mona Lisa of modes. Always been my favorite wizard since it was implemented. Luckily we will always have his body of work, RIP King of the Code.

TWD. My favorite pin of all time. I played it non-stop for over a year. Amazing transformation from the Walking Dud to greatness

AC/DC. Sold it but loved it. Same thing with SM.

BM66. Lyman took an average at best layout and turned the game into a fun masterpiece. Maybe his finest work.

    EHOH. Another masterpiece.

Lyman was a genius at making games fun and approachable for average players and then deep and intricate for the best players at the same time.

3 of my games are coded by LFS and I’m gonna play em all weekend. Couldn’t ask for anything better in these games, AFM, MET, and SM. RIP!

Somehow I don’t currently have a Lyman coded game to pay tribute, but would offer that Lyman on code sold a ton of games and was one of the few guys that everyone here agreed was pinball royalty. He was a world class coder and player and, from everything I’ve seen and heard, a great dude.

    #45 2 years ago

    easter egg fact :

Lyman came to Belgium for the EPC 2015, and than as a tanx/tribute to the organisation team, all tags in the THE WALKING DEAD code were changes by him with the ones from the belgian guys crew...

    RIP Lyman

Firstly, thank you Lyman for being the king of code…RIP
I played medieval madness today because I hadn’t played in a little while, had a decent 65M game
Haven’t had the chance to play my other Lyman games AFM, MB as well as GNR and Royal Rumble, will do tomorrow

    Quoted from MikeS:

Going to play some of my favorite Lyman game tonight and shed a tear everytime he shoots a zombie in prison multiball.

Is that actually meant to be him?

    #49 2 years ago

Lyman has touched my entire collection, even the ones sold. He’s been with me in spirit since the beginning of my hobby.

    Thank you Sir.

    #50 2 years ago

I’ve owned almost 300 machines over the last 25 years and I’ve kept AFM for 20 of those years. Every game he worked on is a Hall of Fame machine.

I just assumed he’d be around forever to make games amazing.
