Have MPU that boots fine on the bench but only a flicker (LED) in the machine. Have all correct voltages in the machine and have 5V and 12V on the MPU board in the machine. Why would it not boot fine in the machine with the correct voltages on the MPU but fine on the bench? The board is jumpered for 2732 ROMs and they are new.

The EPROMs are likely the problem. The EPROMs haven't been programmed deep enough. It causes an issue in-game because the 5V power-supply from the solenoid driver board is usually around 5.2 volts while your bench power-supply is probably around 5.0 volts. That little voltage difference causes issues with borderline programmed cells in the EPROM returning wrong info resulting in the ROM test failing. So you need to write the EPROMs with a longer cycle.

Thank you Quench. I never would have figured out what was up with that. The vendor is providing a new set of ROM's being programmed with the information you provided.

They need to use the slowest programming algorithm (and enable double write if their programmer is a GQ-4X) for these old EPROMs. This issue has come up a few times over the past few years.

Got the replacement EPROMS today. Installed and all working now. Thanks Quench!
