We'll I knew it wouldn't take long for this tread to derail off the tracks. No sense of wasting any more time on reading any more of "he said , she said" nonsense.

I have pictures and video that I took at the auction when Gene was cleaning out space to make room for all the parts coming in back in 2001. I bought two games, Rocky and Mata Hari EM. version because that was all I had room for. Wish I would have had a huge truck to bring more games back as many of them went dirt cheap. What a fun day that was.

When I received my BBB after a 2 1/2 year wait we decided to leave it in the box for another month and while I was at the MGC show that year Gene overheard me telling someone how I had not opened the box yet and he came running over offering to buy it back. I politely declined and told him we were going to open it but was planning the box opening in a few more weeks. It was just a small group of close friends but we made the theme all based around BBB including Martians in the fruit salad..... . I had made a "free play" card for it ahead of time and had Gene autograph it at the show. I remember Eric A. saying we were all a bunch of Nerds...LOL.

P6050015 (resized).JPGBBB barefooting (resized).jpgDayhuff BBB 007[1] (resized).jpgP7010099 (resized).JPG$4500 was really high at that time. Originally there were to only be something like 111 built but once Gene found more parts the number quickly grew to 183. NOBODY thought they would ever get built and the skepticism was huge for over two years but I'll hand it to Gene that he never once raised the price and he stuck to his word and the quality of the build was over the top. I'm sure happy I got into it when I did. In fact as soon as I got my notice in the mail to send the down payment I turned right around went to the Post Office and sent him a overnight money order so that he would get it in his hands the next morning early am. which cost me like $40....LOL.

I always knew that Gene would come through but when he announced at Expo it would be done in six months I said to myself " there is NO WAY he gets it done that fast". A lot of people thought Gene was out to rip people off and was going to run off with there money. I never doubted his intentions and knew that trying to run off with money from 183 angry pinball people was not Gene's style. Gene already had his millions long before he got into pinball so I always felt safe about the money and never really thought about how long it was taking. I did at one point hang this BBB translight on the wall which was the holding spot for the game if it were to finally show up one day. And how many people remember that little plastic flying pig he used to have running around in circles in his booth with a sign on it that said "pigs really can fly". Classic!!

BBB translight ( I got screwed, LOL) (resized).jpgQuoted from TenaciousT:So Dayhuff - how did you come by the BBB Translight ?
Back before the BBB start up they were everywhere. I remember selling them for $20 which was hard to get at the time but they did eventually start to dry up. Then it seemed like they were more in the $75-$100 bracket. I've not had an extra one in a long time now.
And yes the Dr. Who topper sits proudly on the Pinball Magic, it's part of my "misplaced topper collection".
John
Quoted from RWH:That will likely piss the current BBB owners off if a remake actually happens.
You bet, just like everyone that owned original MM, and AFM. It's a money grab for Planetary pinball, thats how they think when it comes to the collectors. Same goes for all the prototype backglasses and translights........
John
Quoted from Mr68:I don't want to know but I want to know, how much the Spirit sold for back then?
Do you guys remember?
I do. In fact I was the one that wrote down all the hammer prices and posted them on RGP. I think it took me something like 6-7 days to post everything, a lot of typing. Right off the top of my head I think it was $1300 for the Spirit. I remember it being the first time I saw the the game and I was amazed it went for so much because most games were going for we'll below the $500 mark. The next Spirit I seen was a few years later at the PATZ auction and it only sold for like $4-$500.
John
Quoted from pinwiztom:Also remember seeing a butt load of games that had missing heads and cabinet bodies without heads,
apparently an aftermath from some feud with Mike Pacak and as a result of Mikes divorce, his ex wife
sold to Gene, cheap; the mis-matched game parts just to screw with him. Or so the story goes that I heard.
Yup, same story I remember. Even Mike told me that when I was at him house a couple of years later and he showed me a lot of what he got back for what his buddies paid for it. All except Gene of course.....LOL.
John
Quoted from pinwiztom:Yeah John
Thems it.
I also remember we both bid against each other on several machines,
including Solar Fire, Spirit, Mata Hari EM and a few others I think.
Or maybe that was Mike Schudel?
If I remember correctly, I ended up bidding and winning on several games
Target Alpha, Spanish Eyes and Seven Up/
The late great Mark Clayton was also there.
The MH em, which I think was the only em version there of that game I bought with a opening bid of $100 and nobody else bid on it. To me that was the buy of the day. I remember Mark being there... Amazing how time (pigs) fly.
John
Quoted from aeneas:Was that you who had for years in your signature on rgp you were looking for a mata hari em ?
And you finally found one for $100 ? Amazing!
Or did you find another before ?
Yes that was me, except I was looking for a backglass since the one that was in the machine that I bought it from Gene was broken and taped together. After four years of searching I found another machine that had a perfect glass but I had to pay up for that game. I then sold Gene's game off to a guy from Canada. Funny thing is I was never looking for the game in the first place but I knew of it's rarity. When they got ready to sell it I was looking down at my notes that I was taking on all the hammer prices and the auctioneer was bragging the game up and stated it was the EM. version and thats when I suddenly looked up at it and sure enough it was. HOLY CRAP!! I guess I didn't notice that because there were so many SS versions that it sorta blended in with them I suppose, that and the fact that they were selling 500+ games that day so my mind was on overload.... Anyways I threw out a $100 bid just to get things going and nobody else made a bid and I won. It was missing the apron and a few other minor things but I had everything in my parts stash to complete it, including that exact apron. I think it was meant to be.
John
Quoted from pinwiztom:I that the game you were looking for was an EM of Charlie's Angels.
Which you eventually obtained.
Yes I had the CA em. signature on there for 12 years and finally got my hands on one.....long story short it's still here and is serial #1.
John
IMG_0096 (resized).JPGIMG_0097 (resized).JPGQuoted from pinwiztom:You seem to come by other serial#1 pins, if memory serves,
you sold to me Bally Wild Wheels with serial number 1001.
OMG, I was just thinking about that pin a couple of days ago. That was a total fluke actually that I got that game, but it was cool never the less.
John
Thought I'd post these pictures from Gene's first pinball show in Bloomington. Not sure what year but I think it was 2006 maybe? He was taking orders for Kingpin.

It's the famous Illinois Pin Ball T-shirt that I have in a frame on the wall. I have another one in my T-shirt drawer but I can't ever bring myself to wear it for some reason, maybe once every five years. I'm trying to save it I guess.
