I picked up an Arena last week and have been loving it! Ordered some modular strips from Comet with big plans to replace the tube in the backbox. Ramp is a little melted but functional and the plastic that wraps the bingo level is missing if anyone has a line on those, let me know.
Question: I haven't bought the manual yet, can someone please share the dip switch setting to shut up that scary attract sound? I like the lights just not the growl!
Thanks

Switch 7 - off
I'm in and as of today this is the longest pin I've ever owned, will be 2 years in March, I'm a guy who plays and sells but I can't and will never part with my Arena, these Gottlieb Sys 80's scratch me right where I itch, I love the gameplay and the themes and the cheese factor, music and sfx everything.

Thanks, that did it! I like the music too, it's subtle. Kinda reminds me of the music from The Life Aquatic...
And your leds look great, btw.

I`m in - for the third time. Arena was my first ever bought game back in 2003. Sold it to a friend in 2005, found one in 2010 again for a good price - sold it because we moved in a new house and i needed cash and space. Missed Arena ever since, then in 2015 i got another chance to get Arena for a good price, so i grabbed the game for (hopefully) the last time Great gameplay!!!
Most of the Sys80b games are not very popular over here (except TX-Sector, Genesis and maybe Bone Busters).

Does anyone know why my arena only plays background sounds but won't play game sounds?

Is it possible to swap a board with my raven to test?

Talk about ghetto... Check out the vertical plastic that is a Visual Pinball image laminated and paper clipped in place! Looks sweet and will be great without the paper clips! And done at work with work materials. My cost is a negative number! Don't tell the boss!!

... Until a real one becomes available.

And with lights! White light would look better with the real plastic on bingo level, might try an orange strip til then. Still working on the backglass but leds that are in place are already WAY better than the fluorescent tube! These turn off and on with gi! And I added flashers to the flames on the translite connected to the flames in the grill. I'll post a video when further tweaked...

Post a video of your backglass/backbox; I would like to see difference.

I still need to add the flames flickering leds and I can't decide... I was planning to share the captured ball lights to light the girl, dude and monster. Might be too busy. Thoughts?

Well, i joined the club on Friday, after looking for a Arena for some years now (these are very rare here in Sweden).

Been doing some cleaning and LED'ing yesterday, and some minor modding.

the metal parts + legs got rust spots and average scratches and wear so i will prob coat them with gold paint further on.

Funny enough the previous owner had 4 balls in it, so it was behaving bonkers the first time i started it.

Just picked my Arena. never even heard of the game until I saw it come up. found a couple good videos on youtube and that sold me! so it was pretty rough. has not been serviced for over 10yrs. the rubbers literally disintegrated. popcorn under the pit, music wont play. but overall the playfield was in good shape. had 4 balls in the game for some reason. the balls were all pitted and some rust. yikes!! the game mostly plays well, im thinking a standard daughter board mpu problem. should be able to reflow the connections. they bent the hell out of one of the legs. and I cant find a replacement because it is a really odd size. 27 3/8" ???? what the heck is that all about. also has anyone found a good replacement for the lighted tubes for the ramp. there has to be some type of led mod out there for this. the new old stock ones come with burnt out bulbs already lol. I will post some pics in a bit. still a fun project and glad to be part of the group!

Ive heard of some guy was planning on making copies of the led ramp, but if he ever did it i am unsure of.

Has anyone had a issue with having sound but no music? The regular noises work just fine but I never get any music. It's played music twice and now hasn't played it for a while

Since I guess this is the club post... I made a new ramp for my Arena. It seems every Arena ramp is broken in the same place. Once I get my game back together, I can do some test fitting!

I'm curious too ... what tools do you need to make such a perfect ramp? Mine is broken too!

#18 5 years ago

Mine is broken too. Are these for Sale?

#19 5 years ago

Yes, eventually...I have a post for that in the classified section to gage interest.

Removed the Neon Tube from the backglass and added a board with roundabout 170 Neopixel LEDs controlled with an Arduino Uno!

JodyG Fantastic job on the ramp, it looks perfect. A lot of prep work to do these but worth it in the end.
I'm interested in buying one from you as well if you will post to Australia.

Im having abit of a trouble with mine lately, all 3 of the guard lights and the Pit (the big white insert infront of the entry to the ramp) dont appear to work anymore, you get the points and the sounds, but no lights.
and ive checked the bulbs, and they are fine, and ive checked all the cables and soldering around them, seems fine to me, is there a chip or transistor that controls those that might have gone derp?

so the million light is lit when starting a game. I dont remember that being the case. thought you had to earn the million to light it. what setting changes that? have seen that in videos as well so I'm not crazy to think that.

#24 5 years ago

right at the beginning of this video, you can see that the million light isnt lit for the starting plunge. I would like to know what setting lets you do that. I like it a little better.

Well, yeah, as long as ive had the game its on when you shoot the first ball, to give you a chance to score 1 million right away, then it lights up again if you get the ball back into the trough (ramp and no open gate).

Hi guys, does someone have the semi-circular plastic at the bottom of the upper playfield for sale by any chance?

Does anyone know if there's a manual for Arena online somewhere?

I have a paper manual around here somewhere, but can't seem to find it at the moment (and would like to avoid buying another paper copy).
