I was out for a pinball night recently and said to someone 'I'm going to go shoot some 'ball' and thought, "yeah, that's what I'm doing, I'm 'shooting' pinball, not playing!"
What are your terms for playing?
Going to flip some tables?
Roll some silver?
Flip some bats?
Shoot some wax?
Roll some digits?
Button down?
Burn some coils?
Bang some balls around?
Run the machines?
... or are you just going to play some pinball?
I play pinball. I absolutely hate the term "shoot" as in "the game shoots well!" and I never heard it before the rise of Pinside. I never heard it in my first dozen years or so in the hobby.

That's cause you weren't playing a "shooter's game", you were playing games that no matter when you flipped you made a shot. Y'know, a "player's" game... 
I tried to add a poll to a thread yesterday and that option was not available. Seems like a couple things have changed here over the last couple days.
Lol, I was just curious to see what other colloquialisms are out there for when you want to go magnetize some solenoids.

Never thought about this before-- always have played pinball. I like burn some coils but I feel like I'd be jinxing myself if I called it that.
Some of the others you came up with are amusing as well.. I might try a few with the wife, good for a laugh at least even if it doesn't catch on
