Restoring a LAH and am having sound issues, no sound at all. I noticed that the sound board in it is the data east version 520-5002-02, the schematics shows that the board is suppose to be a 520-5002-03. Could this be part of my problem? Are these two boards interchangeable since they are versions 02 and 03? I read in pin repair that the sound boards aren't. the roms on the boards have no labelling so I don't know if it is the original board . Also on the schematics it shows the RAM being a 6116/6242 but on my board it is a 5116 RAM.Also I know JP uses version 02 so I checked the schematics for the 02 board and I don't see any difference between the 02 and 03 according to the schematics. Any help would be great

LAH has 520-5050-03 sound board !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! with the BSMT2000 chip

Sound Board Generations.
There were basically four sound boards used on DataEast games:

520-5002-0x (00 to 03): Used on Laser War to Ninja Turtles.
520-5050-0x (01 to 03): Used on Batman to Tales from the Crypt, and Maverick (two 27040 data EPROMs).
520-5077-00: Used on Tommy, WWF, Guns N Roses, Frankenstein (four 27040 data EPROMs)
520-5126-02: Used on Baywatch, Batman Forever.
The sub-generations of each board type usually denoted different sized EPROMs were used (as games got newer, bigger EPROMs were used). For example, on the 520-5050-01 sound board (Batman, Star Trek, Hook, Lethal Weapon), jumper W6=in and W7=out, which allowed a 27020 to be used at U17 and U21. Then on sound board 520-5050-02 (Star Wars, Rocky&Bull, Jurassic Park), jumper W6=out and W7=in, which allowed a 27040 at U17 and a 27020 at U21. Interestingly, on both boards jumpers W1 to W5 were the same (W1,W4=in; )

So to clarify, they are NOT backwards compatible if you replace the game specific sound chips? I have a bad PB 35th sound board but was offered a DE Star wars 520-5050-01, is there any way to use that one? Thanks.
