Update. We've been babysitting a 5 year old and me and the little nipper were upstairs flipping. My wife came up, turned on a game and started playing. We all had a great time for a couple of hours. She likes the TZ. Played pinball, cards, had the radio going. My heart was soaring. Things are looking up.

My wife complained that the machines were too big, and cost too much. I can't say that she was wrong. She was never into arcade games or video games as a kid and that carried over to pinball. She wasn't unsupportive about it, she just didn't care and I was hoping she would more than she did. I guess you can't always pass on your excitement to others.

The wife and I had a great time at YEGPIN in Edmonton this year!

She's a keeper for sure. She wants a WOZ and AFMle now.

    Good on you guys!

Not exactly a wife story but - Had dinner with the neighbors last night, half kid birthday party, half grown-up hangout. The kid whose birthday it was is over at our house ALL the time playing the machines. He comes over and basically barges in the house to run down to the basement. I’ve tolerated it a couple times even when my son wasn’t home, but figured it would be best to wait until he is next time.

Anyway we are at the party, and I am talking to the dad - good guy, does a lot of cool art I like, also is some kind of electronic music DJ (I’m a singer In a fairly successful rock band, so we have the music thing in common)- I tell the dad I have all the machines, and from his reaction 1) he clearly has no clue what his kid has been doing for months (huh wtf), and 2) makes the judgiest face I have EVER seen on a grown male, then changes the subject.

OK just had to get that off my chest. Very disappointing; thought we’d be hanging out more

Ehh... The kid has to deal with that shi* every f'n day. I'd let him play, as long as it isn't too much of a bother...

BUT if I got back back into car racing she would love it, haha, the ultimate money pit, so you can’t win.

The way to make a small fortune in racing is to start with a big fortune.

No not all of them. I met my wife when I was 15 working in an arcade. We dated on and off over the years and finally got married. 34 Year’s later we are still married. We still like to play arcades and pinball. And go to Expo every few years. As long as the finances are good she has no problem with me getting a machine. Yeah she’s a keeper!

My wife was the one that wanted a pinball machine and I didn't . Well, being a good husband I said go for it. She found a Royal Flush that a neighbor had for sale. After opening it up I was hooked! I'm an EE so I was fascinated with the old relay logic. Now 8 games later ..... she doesn't like to play with me (although she will play with others) says I take too long when its my turn.

Glad she talked me into getting that Royal Flush. We still haveit.

No, she is an enabler. She tells me about what is available out there. We play "Zip a Do" together. I do get the occasional "are you going to come out of the basement and spend time with me", but it is all good.

I traded my severe motorcycle addiction (I owned three at once) for pinball. My wife is happy that I am not "at risk" in her eyes any longer. Both hobbies weren't cheap, but pins can be shared with friends, the family and she see's them as a nice thing to have for parties. She isn't mad at all. Quite the opposite. I'm a lucky guy.

I just sold my Star Trek Pro to buy a Star Wars pro. She is still not happy. She still hates aerosmith

No mad here. Just got top score on STTNG. Husband was beside me on BSD (which is technically 'my' pin), got top score - and then accidentally put MY initials in. Hahahahahaha! He is now trying to beat his top score with my initials.

The only time my wife gets mad about my hobby is when I sell a game and she expects a handout. It was actually my wife that got me back into the hobby in 2001. She does get bothered if I spend too much time with the hobby so I try to make sure I spend time with her and the family. One good thing I have going is I bought most of my games years ago when they where cheap. So now I just sell off one or two to fund my other projects or new games. So no money has came out of my pay check for the hobby in a long time.
