Talking to my wife in the car yesterday I discovered the reason I'm the only one who ever plays my TZ is because she doesn't understand what to do while playing, ya know , what to shoot at.
So last night she says " I'm going down to play some pinball. " , so I go down with her and tell her the few modes of the game, what to shoot for and when, and how to get to LITZ. She fires up a game, and I coach her while playing as to what she should be shooting for in each mode. She completed all but one door panel on her second ball, and freaking gets LITZ mode at the beginning of ball 3 !!! .......First time she played it in YEARS !
Ends up with over a billion points, Blows out my all time Grand Champion score on a game I've had since the year 2000 , WTH? , do I suck that bad????? how could this happen?, when she saw her name up as Grand Champion she ask, did I beat your high score? , I was too ashamed to answer :-/
I'd like to see her solder upside down, twisted sideways in a cabinet, in the dark, holding wires, iron, and coil , with solder tube in her teeth I'll stick to fixing them from now on.

Beginners luck. Yeah, that's the ticket.

Just think of it this way. You finally have a high score to beat again. Should renew your drive to play the game a lot.

Your wife doesn't walk away after ball two so theres that. I would rather her be better than me and interested then not interested at all

    Hang on to her!

    #7 8 years ago

Yea, I'm lucky to have a wife who not only supports my hobby, will will almost always go down and play with me on our free evenings. She has her favorites and I have mine.
Gotta take a day off work and get my initials back up as Grand Champion on my TZ, what happened is awful, just awful.

Unfortunately, you may suck that bad. Not trying to be mean, just need to coach you up a little. You know what to shoot for, but haven't gone double billion deep in the entire time you've owned your game? As Steve Ritchie would say, ''Play better!''

Here is my GC score on TZ (stock settings and rules)

Super Robot!.. Litz I think 4 or 5 times, I forget.

Why is losing embarrassing? It's all good.

My wife used to think I was the pinball wizard, King of Pinball ,... I've blown my facade.

Really, she has been playing for 23 years with me, and is a killer player. Not embarrassed really, not to being beat by her.
Better than me obviously, and I'm really cool with that. My next game has already been discussed and the funds are allotted, she is just as excited as me when we add to the collection.

It is probably something like my experience at Pebble Beach golf course. My Dad and I were there playing a round for a bucket list father son life experince and the caddy asked us if we would like help. So we said sure why not. He watched us for 2 holes and then from that point on told us what club to hit and where to aim it. We both played rounds of a lifetime... Maybe taking the conscious thought out of it and just whacking the ball one shot at a time with no thought to the big picture really makes a difference. I bet that is what pro athletes are able to do in big situations -focus only on the shot not the hole not the round and not the tournament... Maybe that is what you did for your wife and why she was so locked in - just hitting shots with no overall mindset of concern for the final objectives...

If my girlfriend collects a door panel, I cheer her on like she just beat the game.

That is some funny shit right there. Maybe I'm just tired but I find this to be so funny.

Great story! I would LOVE it if my wife ever beat one of my scores! Of course, that would necessitate her actually playing a game.

I often have guests who rarely play pinball beat me when playing. I am busy trying to progress through the game and end up taking risky shots that drain. They just keep the ball in play and rack up the points having no idea what the ruleset is.

    That's an awesome story, OP.
I have a solution for you: play a 1 player game with your wife, alternating after each ball.
That's typically how my wife and I play ACDC. If you can earn an extra ball, it gives the other player another lifeline.
Strangely though, for Walking Dead, we just play a regular 2-player game.
Guess it depends on the game as maybe this works better for some titles than for others.

    Is this the Confessional ?
My wife beat me six fucking games in a row on MET.
    WTB : MET.

    #19 8 years ago

But I schooled her on WOZ.
    How ass-backwards is that ?!

What makes it backwards? Are you suggesting that MET is a "guy's" game and WOZ is a "girl's" game?

    Yes I am.
Of course not. I'm just a more diehard Alcohollica fan than she is.

That's too much corn exposure Boob, like I've told ya before, I prefer you in the black stillettos.

    #25 8 years ago

    Shouldn't have coached her..............

    #26 8 years ago

I've always found it keeps the high scores off the board if you molest her while she's playing. You might wind up with a broken nose, but at least you'll keep your pinball pride.

And I'll wear the stillettos for you, anytime, Gryszzz!
