We haven't regretted switching over Solar Ride to pure LEDs. Our reasons are many:

Some of the bulbs needed to be replaced anyway. Some were sooty. Some were unreliable. Note that we didn't have any actually burned out.

The bulbs will run cooler. I had to swab out 30+ years worth of heat-glued soot from the inserts. It will help preserve the backglass art.

The bulbs require less wattage. This is important for extending the lifespan of one of the machine's transformers. In fact, it seems that it improved the performance of the pop bumpers slightly (they run off the same transformer as at least the GI lighting).

I could install in colors. Some of the inserts are faded with age, so backing them with a bright new colored LED made sense. The only colors we didn't use were the yellows; those were hopelessly dim. Do note that white was used in any white inserts, and for (most) of the playfield GI (the 3 red lane guides got red). The backglass uses some white (logo, face), and green (woman's costume), and red (horse, Game Over, High Score To Date, Match, Ball In Play)

So what if it looks a little different? Our machine, our reasons.

Quoted from chuckwurt:

I would highly recommend keeping it simple then and getting a bulk kit from comet frosted lenses warm white. That would make it look pretty factory but give you the added brightness of LEDs.

That suggestion, but do consider using colors under any colored inserts on the playfield. Depending on the insert, a white LED might wash the insert out.
