I'm not a purist but OMG of there were a child protective seevices for pins, I would make the call to save that poor wh20.
I love 'em too! I like to play in the dark so they are a no brainer for me. Have a huge mix of them with the occasional incandescent here and there. Just finished up my WH20, pretty pleased with how it turned out. It's super fun to mix and match and cater things to your liking, maybe my most favorite part of the hobby!
While I'm sure it's not that bad in person, it seems LEDs don't photograph well. It always looks like someone took a purple or red dump on the games...
In general, I'm not a fan of LEDs as they're usually too bright, which makes it difficult for me to track the ball. I'm a bad enough player without having to be blinded by the lights.
Adding LED's can help the game draw less power and run cooler so to me it's a no brainer to add them not only to where you like them but also anyplace they are not readily seen, like the coin slots, shooter button, start button, behind backglass, under playfield ect...Under the playfield is cool as I've noticed some colored inserts really come to life using LED's It's all good and I enjoy experimenting with em
a while ago i started to fully led my TOM,CV and NF...bee leds because they were nice and bright...
now i have 3 games i cannot play anymore...it is just so awful.
now i need to convert them all back to normal, but threw the old bulbs away.
about $500 backwarts on this stupid idea!
don't get me wrong,if i look at them from a distance, they look Majestic!?just like these pics above?!
but they are epileptic machines now.
IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING ADDING LED,FORGET ABOUT IT,IT'S HORRIBLE!
maybe some gi and nice touches led's , but no more, you ruin your fun machine.
it is not about being purist or not, led's blow when you stare into the playfield all the time.
Just don't..
Love LEDs in the playfield and inserts, but not in the backbox. Every game I've ever used LEDs in the backbox have had such an awful glare on the glass. I guess that invisglass is supposed to remedy that, but too much money to get rid of glare when normal bulbs are cheaper.
I'm glad you like them but I'll need them replaced before I'd buy the game. I think they work in some cases, for some bulbs (inserts and pop bumpers), but they change the look of original games too much for my taste. Usually makes the game look darker because of the colors people choose. But hey, they're your games and if they make you happy, enjoy them!
Quoted from ForceFlow:When you think you need sunglasses to play, it's probably too bright
That would be F-14s flashers and aircraft beacons that make me wear 'em.
Harsh crowd. Cameras always over saturate blues and purples that make them look blown out. Often in person they look much better. (Pinballbulbs.com's kits are an example of this. Their pictures look awful, but once I saw one of the kits in person I was very impressed)
I am not a fan of color bombing the GI, but will take LED's over incandescents in the GI any day.
That said, I prefer incandescents in any game made before 1982
Quoted from BanditBoy:Look great, tried some in my EM but didn't like it.
Did you try the sunlight bulbs?

you fogot the bulbs in WH2O topper
All that matters is you enjoy them.
Haters gonna hate. I'll take a bright LED'd game any day over a dim, dark playfield where I can't see anything. Yes some games look better left original but who cares! Your games, your light preferences. If it makes you happy, play on!
Sure I'll pull the LEDs from my games before I sell them to you.
That will be an additional $100 for my time and another $50 for you being lazy enough not to do it yourself.
Hate on purists. It's only pinball.
There's never anything wrong with a reversible mod if it makes the owner happy.
But if you're going to share it with the Pinside community, you gotta expect a smackdown.
Not saying it's right. Just the way it is.
Quoted from JosiahCox:Hate on purists.
You left out the comma, but it makes more sense the way you wrote it.
LEDs can breathe new life into a game that's getting boring funhouse came to mind for me:)my Dracula also looks killer in blues and purples adds to theme so much.

Nope - I bought the Great Lakes topper board which enables LED's up there.
Btw, in person, these look killer - the pic came out like a cartoon. The incandescents looked drab and dark - you couldn't see the artwork
Took a few more pics up close, but WH20 doesn't look anywhere near as blue and flat as pic. Much more subtle.
Quoted from KingDaddy:The incandescents looked drab and dark - you couldn't see the artwork.
Did you check your GI connector to see if it was toasted? That's usually the problem.
Quoted from swampfire:Did you check your GI connector to see if it was toasted? That's usually the problem.
Nope - that wasn't an issue. I just don't appreciate how flat and dim incandescents are, particularly in a dark environment.
Quoted from JosiahCox:Haters gonna hate.
I hate having a headache and having to look away during gameplay...
Led's everywhere, but for me i leave the gi warm white or cool white depending on the game, so much better for your plugs and life of your power supply. The last two games i did i left the pf gi incandecent however and it looked good too. I droped .7 amps in attract mode on my sf2 when i led'd it other games you drop about .4 amps intake on average. If you have a few games on one 15 amp curcuit led's can make enough of a difference to squeeze another game in.
