Safecracker called and it wants its unlicensed theme in a novelty cabinet that no one wanted back.

Actually, theme and art look good, but that cabinet……wtf were they thinking? I don’t understand. We know Dennis likes his unusual cabinets, but no one else cares. Homers car is on the money.

And what’s with the flip up bottom flap? Will there be a mini version of the game you can play with just that lifted up?

I’m assuming it will come in a normal cabinet option? Hopefully that version is not stripped back and still has everything else on the playfield.

Quoted from Pdxmonkey:

Dennis said there will be a standard version and an LE, the LE being the actual tank model we’ve seen. No details on if there will be different features on the PF.

I guess it gets attention if nothing else.

Why would anyone fold the backbox down if not moving it? It’s a PIA doing it at the best of times.

#725 1 year ago

There’s a lot up the top half of the pf with 2 narrow shots to get up there. Not really feeling the layout on first impression. Gameplay would help.

#728 1 year ago
Quoted from Zablon:

I think they did miss the opportunity to make that entire tank and targets move back and forth across the pf in certain modes.

Even if the targets lowered like AFM, just to open up the top half. Honestly, pop nests are useless at the best of times, but why have those in the game at all. Definitely need to see gameplay. Maybe the ship does something?

#733 1 year ago

Here’s a better pic. Actually the top pf is more open than I thought from the earlier pics. There’s 2 shots to the right - they look narrow though. And the middle target bank doesn’t look so big.FF5AB960-1D17-49BD-97D1-9900202EDB60 (resized).jpegFF5AB960-1D17-49BD-97D1-9900202EDB60 (resized).jpeg

So the worlds ice cream supplies are threatened by cow abducting aliens?

#770 1 year ago

Any chance you lock balls from the back of the tank tank-ship then they spill out the top to start multiball Aerosmith style? Hope so.

Quoted from pinmister:

So we have figured out most of the mechs but what about the planet or orb in back-it looks like it opens as well?
She's a beauty Clark
[quoted image]

It’s only 1/2 a planet with a mirror, so likely just a static sculpt.

#791 1 year ago

Another option is the targets under the shiptank lower AFM style allowing access through the ship to the upkicker top left.

Quoted from John_I:

So the wire form up top in the back is definitely a three ball physical lock. Very cool location and style!

So that lock is fed by the upper left vuk. How do we get balls in there? Either the target bank lowers or open a shot up there, hopeful but doesn’t look too likely given the targets don’t look like they’d lower, or there’s a diverter/up post up there to drop the ball into the vuk. Or the left ramp lifts which also doesn’t look too likely. But there looks to be some green arrows under the ramp? Or are they just on the ramp decal?

Quoted from La4s:

Looking closer you can see multiple ball paths and stacked ramps in the back.
GREEN LINES = AIR STRIKE
1. Hit all 3 standups to spell A I R.
2. Lights Air strike lock on the left orbit.
3. Left orbit diverts into upkicker (behind left ramp) onto metal ramp into a 3 ball lock (can see the optos circled in red).
4. Releases onto plastic ramp below, just before the plastic ramp diverter.
YELLOW LINES = LEFT RAMP
1. Goes up around plastic ramp (below metal ramp in back of playfield) and diverts to either left or right inlanes.
BLUE LINE = COSMIC COTTAGE SHOT
1. Upkicker to right Inlane.
Also note that the inlanes start your missions.
[quoted image]
Other observations:
The rear right side is similar to Party Zone/Dr. Dude.
The rear left side is similar to Scared Stiff. Possible ball scoop behind the ramp and diverter on left orbit.

Something must feed the upper lanes and the pops. I think the left look has a divertor/up post that either drops into the pops or the saucer for the vuk. You missed the far right look also. Likely it feeds the pops also.

Quoted from Daditude:

The rumor has been 13k. I hope it's not true. I think they will shoot themselves in the foot if that is the price. Pinballs shot up during the pandemic, and flippers rode the wave. Pinball companies then jacked their prices up to match, which alienated/lost a lot of collectors and potential buyers.
I don't see an unknown themed pinball selling well at that price point. Hell...pins with GREAT themes are now struggling at those price points.

Surely that’s just for the tank version. Would really suck if the normal version had other gameplay features stripped so you were forced to buy the tank if you wanted the full game.

#1465 1 year ago

The tank roams around your game room on it's real tank treads, using it's HD camera and multiple Tesla designed sensors, looking for someone to play it. When it finds someone it shoots nerf bullets at them then raises its back box, dispenses a gelato and sais "play me human". At night it roams around being inappropriate to an unsuspecting row of Stern LE's trying to get some sleep.

That pretty much sums up the hopes and dreams of this thread?

Just catching up on the past 32 pages. Is the head motorized?

Quoted from PanzerKraken:

And to look like a complete tank when folded. It's all just cosmetic.
I think bigger issue with the tank on the back is that it's going to limit where folks can even put the game, having to be much further from the wall than they are used to.

I think there’s heaps of room. Modern games actually sit a fair way out from the wall. Looks to be far enough to accommodate the tank head/gelato maker.

#1823 1 year ago
Quoted from Roostking:

Has the gelato maker been confirmed or denied? What if the gelato shoots out of the bottom mounted pleasure cannon while taking pics through the screw/camera/lightshow hole in the magnetic flip up front that actually retracts to display a simple electro-magnetic tank fighting game in the head.
Or no?

I thought I read somewhere the pleasure cannon can do reacharounds, even while the head is up.

Had to look up Goodwins Law. Was going to say that given long enough, everything on the internet is porn, references porn, or ends up as porn.

Video assets aside, from the little bit of gameplay we've seen, and the layout in general, it looks pretty pedestrian. Nothing jumping out at me. As someone said, like a system 11 simplicity which is fine. Tank doesn't look like it does much - It shakes and im assuming the lid pops up for something, but I dont think it interacts with the ball much. The ball lock is cool, but pretty standard. And the UFO vari-target is ok. Controllable divertor - John Borg sais hold my beer.

Maybe a full gameplay vid will change that, though I doubt it.

And I really don't like the save posts at the end of the flippers. Standard main flippers are sacred IMO. Dont like the pop up plastic thing either.

Love the wireform nest. Really love the art and the theme is good.

#2922 1 year ago
Quoted from Kkoss24:

Seeing that they featured “wireforms” and “happy ending face “ and not the “lit bots” maybe there’s hope that this planet explodes .
[quoted image][quoted image][quoted image]

The planet does not explode any more than the tank head shoots ice cream cones. It's a 1/2 planet on a mirror making it look whole. Maybe it has some lights on it.

#2925 1 year ago

The colour looks so different in the vid.

And no screw!!!!

The Deluxe for $9k looks awesome and comes with all the "extras" like shaker, light rails, and invisiglass. I think the art package looks pretty sweet. Now for the hat trick - don't ruin it with the display, fingers crossed.[quoted image]

Easily the best version of the game IMO.

#3008 1 year ago
Quoted from Rarehero:

WTF .. GTF?! GTFO.

PF FTW IMO!

#3014 1 year ago

Of this whole crazy experiment, this is the bit I really dislike. There's almost a whole separate game in that flipper area alone. Might be just personal bias, but I hate when games f*ck around with traditional Italian bottoms (oh my). Banana flippers, up posts, metal drain posts, double flippers, non standard gaps. Here we have double metal drain posts, with twin drain lanes with extra wide flipper gap and a humungous pop up disc in one game. Just one of those would be too much for me. Might be ok on location, at a show, or at the PHOF for a few plays when you're looking for something novel, but no way I could play this regularly in my home collection.

Quoted from PinRob:

But have you played it?

No, but I've played enough games with non standard flipper setups to know I don't like it.

You may love it though. I'm not saying it's a mistake - just it's not for me.

#3025 1 year ago
Quoted from metallik:

Looks like the lanes can be lit for ballsave (lucky break) .. lights are near the apron for each side.
I don't think the flipper gap looked very much wider...

That's got to be wider?
pf (resized).jpegpf (resized).jpeg

Have to admit though, the posts being well behind the flippers makes them not as intrusive as others. Say like WNBJ

whoanellie3a (resized).jpgwhoanellie3a (resized).jpg

#3031 1 year ago
Quoted from oldskool1969:

A good player, will play those posts behind the flippers like WNBJM!
Respect the bounce is all I can say

Of course, those posts are there to be played. Whether it's fun to play is subjective.

Also, those posts were from a different era with different style of gameplay. Not sure how well they'll translate to modern, faster games and full size flippers.

Is the double post setup a first for full sized flippers?

#3058 1 year ago
Quoted from metallik:

Not really... remove the posts and imagine the flippers rotated upward a bit to point at each other - I think the gap is the same as any other modern game. You're still going to be making most of your saves above the posts.

Wheel of Fortune did something similar, although with a center post. THAT is a wider than normal flipper gap:[quoted image]

I’m ok with wider flipper gap tbh, actually liked it on GB, but this looked even wider for the sake of fitting the posts in. But you could be right- might be an optical illusion more than anything. And the posts being under the flipper won’t be as bad as I originally thought. Be interesting to see how it feels. Definitely need to play it before buying one though (novel idea for us in Australia).

#3336 1 year ago

For all the pre launch rumour and hype that this thing was a "packed world under glass", I'm not seeing it on the playfield. Maybe they meant the tank was a "packed world outside the glass". A great art package and some nice wireforms makes it seem packed, but other than that....meh.

Actually, there is almost a whole world under glass just around the flippers.

#3342 1 year ago
Quoted from titanpenguin:

Meh, I’m more let down by what I’ve seen from GF and PF. But I am reserving judgement till I play them all.

For me GF surprised on the upside and PF was always going to be an insta-buy even if it was a bagatelle. FF was the biggest no to go turnaround in pinball history. GTF is just like an overhyped balloon slowly deflating for me. Being last to announce during this March Madness, and doing it poorly, was always going to be a tough ask. Not to say it's a bad game, but for me it's the bottom of the pile now. It's just another game. Of course I could be blown away when I actually get to play one, but that could be 2-3 years down here.

#3362 1 year ago

Who makes AP's playfields?

#3838 1 year ago
Quoted from wesman:

They did a lenticular image for the back of Hot Wheels too!
Yow, 300 layers said Franchi.

I think the 300 layers just refers to the complexity of the drawing itself - nothing to do with the lenticular process. Because the image is so jam packed with elements, it means a lot of layers in whatever illustration software he is using.

Franchi’s art is the best part of this game IMO. All of it. Stern’s huge loss (and they could use some more variety).

#3886 1 year ago

Speculation earlier on that there was or wasn’t a magnet in front of the tank - confirmed there is a magnet….. see above ^^^ vid at about 1m26s….

411CEAC9-18A7-4A20-9B9A-4E19D716C2C2 (resized).jpeg411CEAC9-18A7-4A20-9B9A-4E19D716C2C2 (resized).jpeg

And the flipper setup looked OK in actual gameplay. Anyone work out what’s happening with the lanes under the flippers?

#3888 1 year ago
Quoted from PinKopf:

acting as a shield somehow (holding a ball maybe, nor sure what they meant?).

That’s actually a cool idea - the tank catches a ball there and it’s a shield for the tank until you knock it off.

#4023 1 year ago
Quoted from iceman44:

PF wins on theme/callouts. Very important, but that’s it.
GFT Nordman layout, “flow monster”, lighting, Ramps, Toys, speaker panel, artwork, LCD awesomeness versus crap alphanumeric display (yes I’m getting one)
Like em both a lot but GFT for the win on overall review

I realize you’re trying to justify your picks for March Madness Ice, but flow-monster this ain’t. And the jury is out on how much awesomeness there is in the LCD.

#4028 1 year ago
Quoted from rosh:

I will say people calling this a "flow monster", is not a description I would have expected

Lots of action close relatively close to the flippers, plus magnets. But it’s good to have some balance….even flow monsters get boring after a while.

#4106 1 year ago
Quoted from iceman44:

I’m in on whatever I like and don’t give a shit what anybody else likes or not
The Pinside paparazzi fanboys, penguin jumpers, flow monsters…..it’s wash, rinse and repeat.
Stern is the absolute worst. Yes they make some great games, I have a lot of them, but I’m tired of the same shit.
And FOO, fits that bill. Absolutely NOTHING in it except great art which covers up the rest.
The Aerosmith cartoons are great if you love the band. If you don’t, then it just more of the same imho
Monkeys F ing a football

All I see on Foo is plenty of new interesting shots and some innovative toys. And leagues above AS animations.

And shitloads of FLOW. I think you picked the wrong Stern game to skip IceT. Hopefully you can pick one up down the road to replace GTFO LE when you realise you’ll never even see the tank folded down except on the day you unbox it and the day you sell it.

#4107 1 year ago
Quoted from Swainer80:

but at least their cabs aren't made of particle board

Not aware of any manufacturer using particle board cabs at the moment? Only Stern home pins but they’re significantly cheaper than any other game on the market.

#4207 1 year ago

Anyone who played this have any feedback on the flipper setup? Wider than normal? Did you have a chance to use the posts underneath? Could you deadbounce into those lanes? Are the lanes coded?

#4223 1 year ago
Quoted from Daditude:

The lanes are coded.

What did they do?

#4402 1 year ago

My 2 pet hates in pinball....3d printing and non standard flipper setups.

Quoted from kermit24:

The co-designer (Paul?) was talking to us in the booth when I asked about the 3D printed toys and if they were final. He said yep, Matt from Back Alley is going to make some good money on this game. Thats not a great approach IMO, relying on the mod community to make the toys cool.

In fairness, Stern have been relying on the aftermarket community forever - whether it be for toys to replace the plastics or filling shortcomings in licensed audio/video - to the point Gomez has said on streams "I'm sure you guys will figure out something for that" (or words to that effect).

#4491 1 year ago
Quoted from Ribs:

Maybe the toys are supposed to be ironically bad.....look how charming their crudeness is!

Like the marketing campaign?

Gameplay looked fine. Shots were a bit limited. Same strategy you use on AFM or TNA - don't shoot the tank unless in multiball. Left ramp shot ok - most of the rejects I saw were just missed shots.

A decent stream on launch would have saved so much grief for AP. Not something I'm interested in buying, but will be fun to play on location.

#5301 1 year ago
Quoted from Beechwood:

Who really cares at this point. All manufacturers are terrified of releasing production numbers for some unknown reason.
Big balls are in short supply in this industry. Heaven forbid anyone knows how many were made!

Except Spooky.

#5380 1 year ago
Quoted from Bublehead:

Ok, the cheap and dirty way to clean up 3D printed parts... buy a jug of uv curable resin... pour it in container in a darkened room (close the drapes and blinds) then dip your PLA+ parts in resin, take outside, let harden in the sun. Ok, that got rid of some of that layer line look. Now paint it if you want, but if you used clear resin, you can kinda quit right here. You can use your wife's UV nail hardener light and UV clear nail polish too. Either way you get a more smooth finish on the PLA+ printed parts. Pretty sure pinballs hitting it will eventually chip it off, however, in HUO who knows? Sanding it first gets it smoother but results depend on resin's ability to fill the gaps due to a bigger final filet radius between layers. I remember a day when guys started printing gee gaws and mods using FDM and the initial response from the community was totally negative, layer lines being the big give-away. I thought a well printed and post processed mod was better than all the "found art" junk that guys were shoveling into their Twilight Zones... (rockets and robots and pyramids, oh my!) and Circus Voltaires and Theater of Magics and Adams Familys (Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh, my!) but it took a long time for people to accept custom printed mods, and now, well they think we can live with OEM's using the same technology.

Ive used the spray on automotive clear before on the 3dp b66 batcave mod and that helped alot. Doesent completely eliminate the ridges, but certainly makes it smoother and glossier.

Quoted from yancy:

Catching up on the Dead Flip stream, I'm up to the second glass-off moment. They somehow managed to make this feel rushed despite doing it weeks after people expected it.
The dubstep-lite is more grating the longer I hear it. It's all squiggle and no melody. Where's the theremin? They put so much work into those trailers making it seem like a love letter to Ed Wood and tin toys, when it's actually an indiscriminate mishmash of several different flavors of sci-fi. Not enough to turn me off the game, but I wasn't wowed by the trailers to begin with, just not my vibe.
Seems like a whooole lotta left orbit if you wanna play with any semblance of safety. Get used to hearing that spinner sound. I just can't get on board with a modern game where the center is that closed off. It's like if Iron Monger was up 100% of the time.
Yo dawg I heard you like fonts. Sooo many fonts, 5-6 different ones onscreen together quite often. Several different clashing art/animation styles, plus live video. Display is just an absolute mess, aesthetically. Thankfully I almost never look up there while playing, so it's really only an issue on stream.
All that said, I still wanna knock the ball around on it, play some dollar games.

The theme doesn’t suit the super brutal gameplay IMO. TNA works mostly because of the kick ass music and the gameplay whilst brutal, has some interesting elements and cool moments - it keeps you on your toes but it’s workable. Iron Man works because it’s Iron Man, and you could combo those ramps for days. Plus the monger comes and goes.

Love a tough game but I’ve got to want to fight it. That tank is so in your face, and even the ufo target is brutal. I’m not seeing such satisfying shots to balance it out or good music and I don’t really care about fighting a fictional tank for ice cream and fudge.

#5584 1 year ago

Do you have to hit each specific target or does a hit to any register as a hit to all?

#5715 1 year ago
Quoted from Dr-pin:

"The tank didnt bother me at all" and the most important stream of the game using the avoid at all cost approach........
Is this the worst main toy in pinball history?

Yeh, an "avoid at all cost" bash toy is an oxymoron. Particularly odd when it is the main/only "interactive" toy in the game.

#5717 1 year ago
Quoted from TreyBo69:

There’s a giant swinging ufo with a cow dangling on it with a magnet to whip the ball around…

Doesn't fit in with my argument tho.

#5719 1 year ago
Quoted from TreyBo69:

[quoted image]

The UFO is pretty cool - good value add to an old moving target. Even it seemed surprisingly punishing in the stream, though at least it is off to the side.

#5726 1 year ago
Quoted from underlord:

Upon close inspection with my astute deduction-able capabilities I noticed the 5 bank targets are curved. So technically only a partially avoid at all costs bash toy. I give it an 4 out of 5.

Added to my astute analysis, I'm going to propose that the fact that the curve is concave makes it more avoidable-at-all-costs. If they were convex or straight or straight but angled or slightly off centre, a hit to the side targets could have been "safe".

That could be all horse-fudge as I'm not an engineer. Send it to Professor Plotnik's lab for testing ASAP!

Quoted from matt68061:

Thanks for continually dropping into this thread. Love your attitude towards the criticism and observations. It shows how much you care for the product and hobby in general. I personally appreciate the info you bring to those of us actually interested in potentially purchasing this game.
So many folks here just get off on bashing others work and opinions…or have no idea how to make a criticism without making it a rude and personal attack. (Or a failed attempt at being funny) Its like they are bound and determined to run off anyone associated with the actual manufacturers that take the time to comment in these forums. I see it especially in the Spooky threads and the AP threads….
Keep the insight coming…it is very interesting and insightful to many of us here!
Thanks again!

I think most people here are talking fudge about a pinball machine, an inanimate object, not making rude and personal attacks on the people involved. I agree that personal attacks outside of that are uncalled for and childish and the way employees like Ferret interact is appreciated and appropriate for an online forum designed specifically to discuss pinball machines.

Quoted from Haymaker:

I believe the claim that the game is earning on par or better than Foo Fighters, but I don't believe thats something to be flexxing about. Its just spin. If theres a handful of GTF's at pinball hot spots, of course a brand new game that barely anyone has had a chance to play, let alone play multiple times in a non show environment is going to be a top earner at first. Its easy to play a Foo Fighters at just about any regular pin location. So like, congrats I guess, but I don't think its that high of an achievement. Foo has probably been at Enterium since Febuary or early March and theres zero shortage of other locations in the area to play it as well. I'm curious if its out earning Pulp Fiction at Enterium because I hear theres a constant line for that game.

I think if he'd used any other game to compare than Foo Fighters it would have sounded at least half way legit (except maybe Pulp Fiction). As flynnibus sais, FF has been out for a while longer, plus it's everywhere, plus everyone know it will be everywhere. GTF is earning because it's the rare novelty game at the moment. I'm pretty sure Pinball Circus is one of the best performing games at PHOF (when it's working). Doesn't mean the game is any good nor was it a sales success.

I took a looong break from this thread. Maybe somebody could sum up the past 25 pages for me?
Haiku preferred, but definitely under 20 words please.

GTF is the best

that turns into a tank

Is that even a haiku?
