I wanted to like this game but the video did not do it for me. I look forward to the gameplay video but I think if those are the video assets then it will take a lot to convince me. I wish these email blasts I get with the hit the button for the LE or the Deluxe had a hit the button for the lunchbox. I am in on that.

#3052 1 year ago

The wife said we can buy one if they have a guy ANYWHERE on the artwork/graphics in a spacesuit AND a skirt, elsewise, she's a hard pass. Seems she disagrees with the pleats...

Somebody over at AP been watching Mork & Mindy?!

Quoted from cooked71:

That's got to be wider?

Not really... remove the posts and imagine the flippers rotated upward a bit to point at each other - I think the gap is the same as any other modern game. You're still going to be making most of your saves above the posts.

Quoted from cooked71:

Is the double post setup a first for full sized flippers?

Wheel of Fortune did something similar, although with a center post. THAT is a wider than normal flipper gap:

I wish they would just show the game. All the buildup hype and still nothing substantial of the game play itself. I could be in on a deluxe but not until I see how it plays. Hype gets old, if the game is good then just show us, else I have to wonder what you are hiding.

For a non theme game, gameplay is everything. Voices/callout video bits etc can be changed easily.
I´m still waiting for gameplay, until then nothing is final. (for me)

I’m ok with wider flipper gap tbh, actually liked it on GB, but this looked even wider for the sake of fitting the posts in. But you could be right- might be an optical illusion more than anything. And the posts being under the flipper won’t be as bad as I originally thought. Be interesting to see how it feels. Definitely need to play it before buying one though (novel idea for us in Australia).

Yep, I'm with you on this. This is a different type of game IMO and not your mama's cookie cutter. I don't think there's going to be a lot of flow in this game but instead, interesting shots with fun results.

I hate pop-up post between the flippers but this one looks interesting and there could be some quick thinking strategy to playing it. For example, what if the Lucky You drains aren't luck but more skill based.

Looking at the picture with the left flipper raised, imagine the ball coming down for a dead bounce off the right flipper. Release the left flipper after it bounces over and knock the ball backwards through the Lucky You lane. Assuming the lane was lit-up at the time and you make the shot, a new ball kicks into the shooter lane with some bonus points and off you go.

Or, even better, trap the ball and Shatz it over to the opposite raised flipper.

The risk/reward could be pretty cool. And maybe similar type play using the pop-up post.

Anyway, I'm packing a bag for a last minute road trip and heading to the show today. I've been in the mood for a road trip and it's only 11 hours for me.
If anybody knows of a room cancelation please pass it along, otherwise I'll just stay at one of the satellite hotels.

Don't forget the ice-cream.
I'm picturing melted ice-cream smeared and dripping off of Empress Annoya during a pillow fight with Captain Kayan

Ice cream contest mode could be a special moment in pinball.

Does anyone know the dimensions of the tank cabinet model yet? My man cave is in my basement and the height is limited to 7,3 ft appr. Normal STERNS with original topper do fit in though but I wonder if I‘d be able to clap the Backbox with the turret mounted without any problems as otherwise I would be forced to switch to the DX version. Maybe somebody could chime in as this information could be important for more of us than just me

Quoted from NC_Pin:

All of their videos are marked "made for kids"
I have no idea why they would do that unless a lawyer forced them. Their videos are pretty clearly ok to be marked "not made for kids" Selecting MFK limits how YT will suggest their videos in the algorithm. Kinda strange that they would select it - but I really doubt YT selected it for them.
If they don't want comments on their videos they could easily just turn comments off.

I don't understand the confusion... this toy IS marketed towards kids with $9,000-$17,500 laying around.

I don’t like the cash grab games, but Beatles is THE BEATLES. Elvira has a professional & pinball history, and you got some fabric that her butthole potentially grazed. Batman is BATMAN & had Adam West doing custom callouts for you.
WTF is GTF?! This title doesn’t have the prestige and cache of those licenses. It’s Boomer kitch with porn actors. It’s NOTHING made by NOBODIES. $17k?!? GTFO.
The logical move would have been one LE/Sig Edition at $11k with the stupid tank and lunchbox crap. Deluxe as is, it’s priced right IMO. The “Pro”/route version should have been a LAUNCH PRIORITY at $7-8k. No license = NO FOMO. Instant “wait & see” for potential buyers. You need games on location if you want the “wait & see” crowd to fall in love with your game.

Every game released by a manufacturer is a cash grab.

#3072 1 year ago

I like the limited or signature edition, thats the one I went with. Looks like it will be easy to store stuff under the machine without being an eye sore.

I really like AP. I owned Houdini (and loved it, hated to sell) and currently own Oktoberfest. The build quality, material and code support are great.

But they make some odd choices. Houdini had a polarizing layout (tight shots, etc), Oktoberfest was an odd theme, Hot Wheels was an odd theme, LOV wasn’t designed in house, etc.

Of all the recent releases, GTF intrigues me the most because I know AP has the chops to make it really good. But yeah, the FMV stuff is super weird, and I grew up playing Sewer Shark. It’s like they grabbed some football practice gear, threw it on whoever they could afford and started rolling.

I believe at the end of the day, it won’t be a big deal. You’re playing the game, not watching a movie. But again, they made the odd choice of highlighting the FMV *throughout the entire reveal trailer.*

#3082 1 year ago

Dressed them like a 1950s librarian.

Sexiness factor is ZERO on this pin.

Space Bikinis would have been much better.

I loved all those games back then, as they were state of the art, and they were doing things never done before. Only in hindsight do we see the cheese. They were also made for 14 year old boys to play, and priced accordingly.

Clearly a tremendous amount of effort and passion went into this game. I will reserve judgment until I get my hands on it and see it and play it as a complete piece.

I sincerely doubt Stern is making product decisions specifically to try and hold back competition from (checks sales numbers) American Pinball.

Y’all clamor and fetishize 80s and 90s Bally Williams, so let me count the ways this machine is EXACTLY that.

#1 Designer: Dennis Nordman. A staple designer during the “golden era” of pinball.
#2 original theme (other Norman original themes: Dr. Dude, Party Zone, Whitewater, all 3 Elvira Games, Big Juicy Melons, etc.)
#3 campy humor (see above)

I swear to christ in heaven, if American Pinball put out Whitewater today, pinside would have the same reaction:

“… tHe tHeMe is…. RAFTINGGGG?? wHaT tHe hELL??? RIP aMeRiCaN pInBaLl!!”

Pinball may or may not have gotten worse. I have no idea if the new American Pinball machine is any good. Look at every other reveal that was just made in the past month. Do you know what they all have in common? Footage of people playing the game and some highlights showcasing gameplay. I have no idea how that game shoots based off of what I saw. What I think everyone here can agree on is that American Pinball did a poor job of conveying whether the machine was actually fun to play.

Let me turn what I'm saying as I think we are talking past each other. Stern is not threatened in anyway by AP. Stern making moves to try and take sales away from AP while ignoring JJP would be like McDonalds making moves to fight Whataburger instead of BurgerKing... They are on different levels.

Edit: Fixed some logic.

Hate to break it to some people here, but SPOILER ALERT pinball isnt anything more than silly fun.

Pinball is both
The best it’s ever been
And the most expensive it has ever been.

Likely making us pinheads,
Most critical we have ever been in evaluating and valuing our $/Fun ratio

I truly appreciate the companies and long-time designers trying to recapture the 90s B/W unlicensed magic (Dialed In, GTF).

But.

Looking back, those designers at B/W had a pretty amazing support system of talent - graphic artists, voice talent, and project management vision - for those games, and these new games keep making that even more clear.
