Quoted from MrBigg:

Regardless of my credibility, or lack there of, I put no stock in a game that has an equal or less credibility. My point stands that I will not spend money on a game with the reputation that GTF has going for it. Doesn't mean I don't like AP, just means it loses a potential customer on the recent game. You can brag on your one of few gtfs in the country that will run more than an hour, but I still won't buy one. Not a hard point to understand, nor does " my lack of exposure " to a game from a company who is equally "lacking in game forth coming exposure", have anything to do with the multitude of complaints I read, and issues I read about.

So instead of trying it out for yourself you take stock in others to do the mental work load you refuse to do.

Fer sure. You can't possibly have an opinion without spending thousands of dollars....

What's the point of this thread and why is it still open? If you are an owner, the owner's thread has been up and running for months.

If you are not an owner, why do you care to take your time criticizing the game? You don't like AP? Fine. Need to tell the world? Why? Feel like you are Ralph Nader?

Go spend your time in the turtles pro thread.

I wholeheartedly reject the notion that only people who own something can share an opinion about it.

Quoted from yancy:

What's the point? If you don't own it and never intend to own it? Will you feel validated if others, who also don't own it and never intend to own it, agree with your view?

#7156 77 days ago

What's the point of sharing an opinion if you DO own it? What's the point of even having opinions?

If this thread is pointless, why are you here? Why does it bother you so much?

#7157 77 days ago

Because if you've owned it, and actually played it, you have a reasonable foundation for your opinion whatever that opinion may be.

That said, I suppose if all unfounded opinions were deleted from Pinside there would be no Pinside. Or nor forum anyway.

#7158 77 days ago

I've played multiple GTFs, so not only do I have a "reasonable foundation" for my opinions, I don't have owner's bias clouding my judgement. I let my friends suffer through unboxing these and discovering all the issues.

Also since when do you need to have played a pin to speak up in a hype thread, which is created as soon as the game is announced? There's plenty to like or dislike just from what you can see or hear.

#7159 77 days ago

I am with yancy on this one. Opinions by their very definition don’t have to be based on facts. We may be conflating review and opinion. A review based on a strict definition would be an assessment of facts to formulate a response.

Quoted from Dan1733:

It's a hype thread. It's created by design for people to offer their take on a game or to comment on things going on around the game.

In general, the point in offering a thought or opinion on a game is to provide information people can take into consideration for the game. Some people have very different thoughts about a machine based on personal preferences and their own experiences with it.

I think it's good to get a wide range of those thoughts and ideas about features or aspects of a machine in order to maybe pick up on some things to consider that I might have otherwise missed.

Doesn't mean I have to agree with all or even most of them. I can use the info I read however I want and just ignore & not dwell on stuff I personally don't find useful or relevant.

#7161 76 days ago

rosh I wonder if you would share some of your ideas that you did not get to add prior to your departure for those? Especially Oktoberfest. You already poured so much into it, then even after the fact made the new Otto which is awesome (of course)!

“I had enhancements, fixes and improvements in development for Houdini, Oktoberfest (which Ferret did get into the last release) and Hot Wheels and I still had ideas for all the games, just not enough time.”

I care because I want to be informed. I want to buy a Valhalla, and even considered a GTF until the crapstorm of problems, and lack of information from the company became a thing. You can downvote me all you want, bash my opinion, and none of that changes anything about the real life issues this game does, and will have have. The fact that AP hopes "if we go silent, it'll all go away" is not how you win over buyers, or future buyers. Mythbusters proved on TV that you can in fact "polish a turd", and AP basically backed up that theory.

If it's of any help I've owned Houdini and still own Valhalla and Oktoberfest. All 3 were superbly built, played amazIng and had no problems. LoV and OF are 2 of my all time faves don't let anyone put you off trying them.

I would definitely consider GTF if some come up for sale in Australia a bit later on. I just have too many at the moment and no space for anything new.

Hoping for some help - downloaded newest code from website - the .pkg file is showing 17.2 GB, but when I try and drag and drop to a 32 or 64 gb drive. Getting a message that the files is too large.

Any solutions?

Reformat the usb to handle large file sizes? Regular FAT limit is 2GB per file.

You need to format the disk as exFAT

No love for hot wheels? It is my second favorite AP after Houdini. Really unique with nice moments and it’s a ton of fun. I’m sure you would appreciate it.

For the life of me I can't understand how anyone likes the snorefest that is hot wheels. Probably AP's worst game imo.

It’s deeper than you think with fun milestones along the way which create exciting moments. The pacing is good with great lighting effects. The multiballs are well spaced. Casuals find it very approachable and mid skill players can progress through it. Once you have some time on it you learn how to really blow it up. It could become somewhat repetitive since the rules are somewhat linear. However, everything stacks and you can work towards achieving higher and higher scores. Replayability is helped by focusing on starting and finishing a race in record time. Unlike Stern we didn’t have to beg for Co-Op or Vs modes. They’re there too! It boots up incredibly fast, has a fun soundtrack and callouts, and is typically the pin in my collection that I switch on for a quick game.

snorefest? You must never have gotten it going.

The game is challenging to get into higher gears.. and it has plenty of stacking and risk/reward choices. The issue is it's pretty challenging to get going. Flail doesn't get you much.

Try getting 4th gear and a big EPIC payout.

Maybe I just get too bored before getting to that point with its boring layout, dumb "toys" and lack of anything to draw me in. Huge missed opportunity to make it actually like a hotwheels game and made it like a more lame and stripped down HS/HS2 instead. Nah, I'm good.

Or maybe you're not actually good (at playing pinball) and that's why you've never gotten it going! j/k

I do always get a laugh when people say that. Hell, it felt like I've played for an eternity every time I stepped up to it, but it may have only been 5 minutes, I don't know. Time crawls when you're not having fun!

#7175 73 days ago

Besides being fun, one can really blow the game up if you’ve stacked correctly. Multibillion point games on HW can be had. That is a challenge right there, is the challenge accepted? It’s also a great game to wager on. Can you score 1B for $1 payout? Highest I’ve gotten is gear 4 and 4 billion points and it was quite the rush.

#7176 72 days ago

Hotwheels is indeed better.

GTF-Meh. I have planned GTF a few dozen times at Enterium in Schaumburg (who have a complete AP collection) and it makes me sad every time... and it doesn't appear to get much play vs any of the Sterns. It looks like they channeled their version of RAZA and while it shoots okay, the clips, sound effects, and bugs just take away from it.

AP builds a solid game from a manufacturing standpoint, but this thing is as buggy as a baitshop and that damn tank sound is brutal. I would rate all other AP titles higher than this.

That tank noise is the only sound you can hear in an arcade while playing. It is almost non-stop and on par with your smoke alarm battery low warning at your house. Don't shoot the tank!!!

The biggest issue - it is a thief.

Many times it locks balls and either just gets stuck or just jumps to the next ball. It locks up on location like this with the tank animation rolling and 2 balls locked (or 1). and no matter how hard you shake it, no tilt. It has been this way since it arrived. Also, why does the ball search take like 5 minutes.

I'm having an issue with my left flipper on GTF giving out when the ball comes down at it and I try to hit it. Flipper gives out. I remember this being an issue on other AP games. Did anyone figure out a fix for this?

Are they using EOS switches? Make sure the EOS isn't engaging prematurely by manually moving the flipper up while in switch test and seeing when the EOS engages. It should engage when almost at or at the top of the stroke. If it's engaging too soon, it will cut power, causing the knockdowns.

Kinda surprised this hasn't shown up on location in the Phoenix area by now. One of the arcades asked if they should get Venom or GTF. It seemsd overwhelmingly GTF, but they went Venom.

Good! They have venom at Enterrium as well. I don't love it, but the ball locking is cool. It is 100x better than gtf and I even played a pickup game with a stranger.

Soon. It's en route to the best arcade in the valley. They've had GTF ordered for awhile, but Venom arrived first.

I played GTF today and found it to be a blast! While I was critical of the roll out , when it comes to playing, its really fun. Clear direction, solidly built, looks and sounds great. This is big
time on my radar for the future. We will see if it holds up on route, but its a fun package and the tank shot wasnt instant death.

I'm just down the road from WW and visit fairly often. Mike sometimes takes the pins home, or it could be in the annex area (not open to the public). Didn't see that he sold it.

This guy is pretty honest and direct for 6 months in the job. Can’t be an easy one. AP has had a good reputation up to GTF on any service issues and some of the comments were encouraging to hear.

I didn’t buy one of these at $11k because I was waiting for the chance to buy one at $17k

#7195 15 days ago

Whenever I see footage of this game I am still always oddly intrigued.

Still the weirdest release I've ever experienced - I've never seen a company work so damn hard to turn me off their own game. This signature edition for example - it looks great, that 3D backglass looks incredible even on video - in person it's probably 100x better. It has some really nice features and goodies, which you could make a nice little display around the machine out of all the stuff they give you - and the artwork is truly amazing. The machine itself is quirky and different, and looks like it would go great in a larger collection. But... seriously $32k AUD??? Who on God's earth is going to buy it for that much..?

I'd still really like to play one of these, but outside of a demo machine at the distributor (who is too far away), I don't think I'm gonna see any of these games here in Sydney.

#7197 15 days ago

It’s worth it for the lunch box. I like the style of the artwork and these commercials and goofy actors. I hope I can play the game one day someplace. The vibe of it all seems really different and that back glass does look neat.

It's a "call for pricing." Quotes from $15,999 to $18,000 have been reported to be given from various distributors.
