I want this, but has anyone used one on pinside? Reviews?

    #3 8 years ago

This thing is great...I plan to upgrade too!

    #4 8 years ago

I have one in my LOTR and it works like a champ. No batteries on the board, have had it unplugged for a few days, and all my saved data is still there.

    Hey Northvibe,

Watch the video that Rob linked above. Presented by "The Korn" who is a straight shooter. He provides a compelling testing procedure. The product works!

    #6 8 years ago

Lukex - I saw the youtube vid, but you know how the internet is I just wanted to hear some more people who have used one. I'll probably snag a few for the machines I have. I'd like to be able to unplug for storms and not have to worry about batteries, ever....again

    #7 8 years ago

I have had one in my FT since MGC in March and ZERO issues. I will eventually add this to EVERY game in my keeper collection.

This is an AWESOME product and glad to see pinball life carrying it also.

    Salut,

I think the only drawback is that the clock of the pin is not working.
Date and time settings will be wrong (on machines, where the battery is also running the clock).

    #9 8 years ago

So Time and Date is not correct if you replace batteries with this?

    #10 8 years ago

From what I know (at least for WPC and later) the battery also powers the real time clock of the pinball. This means the pinball will keep the time settings (this is hold by the NVRAM), but it will not advance without being powered.

    #11 8 years ago

Had Rob over after PAGG last Spring and he installed all NVRAM chips in my 9 pins. No issues along with no worries with batteries off the board. Buy with confidence!!

flugs is correct that time will only advance when the game is actually powered on.

All this really means is that time will move forward very slowly so for games with a midnight madness you will not be able to experience it every day without manually changing the time.

Just to confirm, this does not work with Stern MPU 200 (Meteor, Seawitch, etc..) correct?

Options are in the works, but right now you'd need to replace both 5101 RAM ICs on the MPU-200 with anyPin NVRAM.

And you guys are correct, on WPC games, the Real-Time Clock will not advance when power is off to the machine. Everything will function exactly as normal, but the clock will only advance when the game is on.

Will you get a credit dot for turning the machine off?

For what? Everything works exactly as normal. Time simply doesn't advance with the game turned off.

This product rocks and has spent a lot of time in development! And yes, like the poster said above, Korn is a very straight shooter so I would trust his reviews on just about everything.

    Great work Rob!

I have these in a couple games. Great product. Extremely easy install on boards that already have the RAM socketted.

I didn't know if the machine reacted as if the clock was shut off or just standing still. Thanks for clarifying. I will try these next order to PBL.

Cool. Yeah, the machine has no idea anything is different. It acts exactly like if there were batteries in the game, except time doesn't advance when the game is turned off.

I assume that installing one of these erases the memory.

    #22 8 years ago

Do they need to be soldered on the boards or do they just plug in?

Yes, replacing RAM on any board will result in factory settings.

Early Bally, all Data East, Sega, and Stern all have socketed RAM from the factory. anyPin will install in these games in about five minutes with minimal effort.

Williams and Gottlieb did not socket their RAM from the factory. If the game has never had its RAM socketed, it will need to be done. Every anyPin NVRAM comes with high quality machine pin socket strips for installing your new RAM.

Perfect option for you Capcom owners out there which uses RAM already for power, and will die at some point.

Rob installed some on my Pinball Magic awHile ago and it's still working perfect.

    #26 8 years ago

Got 3 of these for my pins (1 Sega and 2 WPC). I will install them next week.

Dang, placed an order with Pinball Life yesterday. Wish I would have seen these. Will be ordering soon.
