Anyone's Getaway ever make this sound?

This happens occasionally. If it happens in-game, it continues until I trigger the turbocharger, or drain the ball, then it goes away. If it happens when the game is in attract mode, it just continues with what seems like an ever-increasing pitch, until I get scared the game will explode and restart it.

O my lol. Reseat the ribbon cables and if that dont help its probably a sound board issue

Nope, mine has never done that.

Man, you don't know what you're missing. Well, I guess you do, since you watched the video.

I'm thinking this, between the weird sound and the squelch when I turn off the game. Also, when I tried an L5 rom once, the sound turned completely stupid. I did order a new set of ribbon cables today. Maybe I should consider a new sound board too.

I think that machine is done for. I will drive over this weekend and pick it up from you and make sure it goes to a good home. ME

Ribbon cable man.......reseat the ribbon cable a few times at least and the 'action' should clear off any dirt on the pins and make a good connection.
New cable is always good due to heat and dirt and age, and clean the pins with iso. Most of these came from bars, arcades and smoke nicotine, tar etc is not good for machines.

Not on my getaway. Make sure sound ROMs are properly seated. Replacing cables is fairly cheap so might as well do it. You could also try to board swap with a compatible pin to isolate issue.

Nope. Irritating as all get out though.
#1. Ribbons
#2. Validate sound ROMs
#3. Swap your HS2 sound board with your DW sound board, swapping ROMs in the process. See if the problem follows the board.
#4. Report back.

Finally got back to this one today. Ribbons are replaced, ROMS are good. I received an order of caps from GPE, my plan was to recap the board thinking this was the last possible source of issues. When I pulled the board and had a much closer look, I found it had already been recapped, and rechipped, and there's a lot of really bad soldering going on. Swapped the board with the one from DW and the sound issues go away. So somewhere.... the board must have something shorting, or something open, or god knows what. I'll recap in case they reinstalled a bad one, and that will help clean up some of the bad solder too.

Thanks!

I know this doesn't help but that sound is cool!! Would be great to capture it on an audio. File and use it on pinsound before you fix it!!

no, but I wish mine did...

Such a cool effect huh cosmo ? lol

I get a good POP when I power mine off, but not that!

Recap and no change. Tried going the other way and testing this board in DW, and DW didn't even want to boot or display properly. Looks like I'm -1 audio board, guess I'll have to get a pinsound board to pimp my DW and use that board in Getaway.
