We cut the cord at my place about 4 years ago, and have been getting by on Netflix and Amazon Prime. I noticed that YouTube Tv just launched in our area. Is anyone using it? Do you like it. I am considering it mainly for live sports, and kids programming.

I used it for a little while at work as a substitute for regular cable while it was out for a few weeks.

It had a decent selection of channels, but not everything.

Roku also has a selection of live tv channels, as does pluto.tv.

YouTube tv should have a trial available.

Also consider Playstation Vue for different channel lineups

I had PS vue then switched to youtube tv. I wanted the blazer games and each had them. YTV has more legit sports imo and the price is what you pay forever, PS vue kept going up $5 a mo constantly and was irritating. YTV im on $30/mo from the beginning and its like 40~ now. It gets all the local channels as well so old people can watch the news/

I've had Youtube TV for almost a year now. I love it, I didn't want to pay for cable/ satellite and a DVR. I use it to watch Premiere League and it is worth every penny.

Only to post stupid stuff here

    Sports is the tricky one.
Not sure what’s out there but I use Plex mostly.
Get my hockey through the NHL app, which is pricey.
Also, consider an HD antenna if you’re in the right part of town.

Did it for the trial. Thought is was good! Tons of cloud dvr space !
I’m with Hulu live only cuz of the tv channels selection. Hgtv and animal planet.
    Good luck

Unfortunately we live in the middle of no where, and we barely even get radio. I'd love to get OTA tv.

I can get football via yahoo sports, but I can't stream it to my TV.

I may sign up for the Youtube tv trial.

    I use it.
    On iDevices it’s awesome.
For some reason on my appletv it struggles to buffer and is unwatchable.

DirectTV Now. No dish, $30 a month. Pretty much all basic channels, ESPN 1 & 2 for sports. I also subscribe to YouTube Red.

I imagine Sling TV is very similar.

Nvidia Shield - google how to "really" use it. Win Win Win (although I still have cable - wife loves to use the remote I guess).

Hulu Live all the way. Great software with great channels.

Hardly anyone is - not YouTube TV / Red, not Hulu Live, absolutely not ESPN+ (which is nuts, as the main sports platform) .. the networks are spending enormous huge crazy money to get live events - they will resurge in the next 8 years before finally dying along with residents of the la brea tar pits.

Anyway not that I’m crapping on those providers, it’s just that things are incredibly fragmented now. Disney is about to come out with their thing, but I am betting against it, despite the awesome content they have. We shall see. They cleaned up in the 90s/2000s offf the backs of little girls they destroyed the self esteem and self image of.. now there is major backlash to the princess stuff, which i expect will get a bit worse, at least in urban areas. Time will tell tho

philo (16 per month ore 20 bucks for a few more channels), pluto (free), aps from the channels themselves .
also, connect an antennae to get the local channels. if you have a smart tv it will pull the local antennae when you select "guide" on a roku setup.
best of all, put it on all of your tv's in the house with no coax or cables needed. wifi it all!

Haven't tried YouTube TV but have been happy with DirectTV Now. I have the middle tier package and think its $45 a month for a good number of channels. Most of the internet TV providers seem far better then dealing with a cable company where rates go up, dealing with extra fees for boxes, etc.

YouTube TV sounds very tempting. $40 a month for a good amount of channels, live local sports, local channels, 6 users at one time (DirectTV now is 2 or 3) and unlimited cloud DVR (Direct TV now is 20 hours, have to pay for more hours). Direct TV now also charges $10 or $15 a month for local sports which is not included in the $45 plan I have...The only thing preventing me from moving to YouTube TV is they don't have the Hallmark channel that the Mrs. likes, that's a deal breaker in my house lol.

I've had YouTube TV for a year or so and have really liked it. The cloud DVR is great and it has several sports channels

We cut the cord recently and settled on Hulu. Has all our sports and a lot better user interface than Sling, IMO.

    #21 5 years ago

Youtube was the perfect for for me... All the local channels, all the news channels and an over abundance of sports channels.

Unlimited cloud dvr is nice and I share the account with my brother.... Ends up costing each of us $20 a month.

Considered it recently among alternatives to Comcast, but we went with Hulu Live (via a Roku) instead.

    #23 4 years ago

Can anyone with YouTube TV that uses the DVR tell me if you can fast forward through commercials? I have Hulu and they don't allow you to fast forward commercials unless you pay extra.

    #24 4 years ago

Yes you can, if its recorded to the dvr.

If its video on demand, then you have to watch the commercials.

    #25 4 years ago

Im wrestling with this now for 2 weeks.

First, is cost. For Spectrum, Comcast, and others that stream with a large or physical presence,
I can end up with u to 20% in taxes. Does Hulu and youtube have additional taxes?

Second, I want to use this service across to different homes...2 tvs in each.
Some providers wont allow this, others want their own rental boxes or have blocks....their app wont run on a smart tv.

Does Youtube, Hulu, others have "unlimited" use? (the main reason being I need one service with Prime channels, I want to use in 2 places but buy only one service)

    #26 4 years ago

YouTube allows up to 3 Different devices and you can record up to 8 shows at the same time.

I use it in Denver and share it with my sister in NY
